The news says that TMZ is reporting it, how reliable they are is up to debate. It seems to be true, The King of Pop is dead.

He suffered a Cardiac Arrest (his heart stopped). Media sources haven't confirmed it, as apparently the hospital hasn't given a final word, but if response wasn't immediate (within ten minutes) I can go ahead and vouch for the fact that Michael Jackson has passed away today.

I just heard that another news source confirmed it.

Cardiac arrest leaves no time for any error. Unless you have someone right beside you when it happens that can resuscitate you, you're gone. The best window for effective action is anywhere from five to ten minutes before it's over.

Considering modern medical details, I don't think he got to the hospital in time. Chances are the EMTs didn't even arrive in time to save him, unless he was literally right next to the medical center.
