Created by Holowan Laboratories based upon old Tarkin Initiative schematics for their BT-series assassin droids, the RK-69 Micro-missile launcher attachment was a type of concealed micro-missile gun that could be discreetly installed into most astromech droid models—turning a droid mostly designed for starship repairs and maintenance into a so-called "blastromech" droid. Once installed and engaged, a rectangular gun will unfold from the droid's head plating and can fire up to seven unguided rocket projectiles. Like the R-7999 micro-missile gun from which the technology was also based, these rockets detonate a tiny shaped charge in their nose upon striking a target, generating damage consistent with a heavy blaster rifle. They are quieter than blasters, being no louder than a soft hiss, with the explosive charge being no louder than an uncorked toniray bottle.
Despite enjoying an extra rocket's worth of ammunition in comparison to its handheld counterpart, the RK-69 shares the rest of its drawbacks. The micro-gun attachment can only fire a single round at a time and it takes time (a full round of posting) for the droid it is attached to reload the next rocket into its silo. It is also better if fired at close-range, as the gun's range stretches only slightly farther than a typical blaster pistol at about 60 meters.
Illegal. Weapon modifications to astromech droids are illegal on a vast swath of systems and ownership of personal rocket launchers is heavily restricted on most worlds, as well.
