ROMA INVICTA
Troubled Times

Colloseum.jpg

It is the year 440. The Roman Empire is divided, the Eastern Roman Empire ruling under Emperor Theodosius from Constantinople, and the Roman Empire from Roma under Emperor Valentinian. Many so called Barbarian tribes control what were once Roman territories in Europe, Spain under the might of the Visigoths, Europe under the Alans, the Ostrogoths, the Huns. All is not well.

A new Hun has risen to power.

His name is Attila, and the days of Rua and Octar, and their joint leadership, are over. Theodosius' treaty, agreeing to the return of numerous refugees and a tribute in gold to the coffers of the Huns. Only a meagre number of unimportant prisoners were returned. Attila means to ensure such further treaties are abided by. Perhaps Theodosius will be made to pay by diving influence.

The work of the Gods.

Yet how can the Gods work with such a Barbarian? Barbarian. A crude, harsh term, for men different from the Romans. Yet Attila is different. Attila might perhaps understand the Romans. Aetius, now commander of the military forces of the Roman Empire, grew as a boy in the camp of the Huns; Attila knows him well. With the Ostrogoths under the Hun yoke and the Visigoths maintaining Spain from the Romans, who else of importance controls this unstable coalition of Europe?

The Vandals.

Under their King, Geiseric, and controlling the Alans, the Vandals maintain a position in North Africa, having left Spain. A fleet, however, is possessed by the Vandals; Attila needs gold to maintain his control. If he is to ever turn against Western Rome, a fleet is needed. But can Geiseric be bought? Theoderic, King of the Visigoths. Theodosius, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, Emperor Valentinian, Aetius, Attila and Geiseric. Six men, who will decide the fate of Europe.

The fate, or the doom.

----

This RP is an alternate historical one taking place from the year 440 onwards. The Roman Empire is now split into the East and Western Roman Empire. The control of other such places can be seen in the storyline above. Before, the tribes have never sought to make demands of the Empires, or to attack them in a serious sense. With Attila as a catalyst, however, things are different. You can take the role of any one of the tribes; two men for each is preferable. Theodosius and Valentinian will be NPCs, replaced by Aetius and a commander of your choice of name. Attila, Geiseric and Theoderic, being "barbarians" and leading their own men in the field, will be able to be RPed. If we're short on men, I'll axe either the Vandals or the Visigoths; most probably the former. The campaign from Sicily to attack the Vandals in North Africa will not have been planned, and the Persians will not have invaded Armenia; they won't play a part in this RP. Both those are for the sake of our RP. From then on, history can be Role Played as if it never had happened. This will be a mix between strategic posting, like the old World War III RP, and the RP seen in the main storyline. Credit to SIN for the inspiration and idea of the original Roma Invicta RP. Ask for wanted positions below. I'll decide after some entry wishes come in. Ideas are also welcome.

Do you even know how long it took for me to come up with a badass name like ROMA INVICTA?

I am suing you for copyright infringement.

SIN just made a good point to me on MSN; it wasn't called the Byzantine Empire at this point. Name fixed.

I stand with the Roman EMPIRE!

I'll assume that's the Western one. Providing you can keep up posting, take Aetius.

You'll have to shoot me first!

What a totally awesome idea!

Gaius Septimus Latinius, a.k.a Malleus Latinius, Commander of the Armies of the Eastern Roman Empire.

Ok I'm gonna add a bit. Rome wont be something you can just march up to. The empire, although split was still a powerful force, and an aging one. The Barbarian tribes have to use tactics like overwhelming and hit and run. The border towns are rarely well guarded and are easy pickings for the Barbarians, but move deeper in the empire and they will probably meet large forces.

The issue for Rome is choosing what is worth saving. You can't save every border town and you can't crush every enemy, also, the people are less obedient as they were in the height of the empire. Large armies means unrest at home.
