So I'm completely new to rp-ing and have no idea how to start. I've made a good character for the upcoming timeline and have read the rules but I am not sure what to do next. Any advice?

Hi nice to see you again e_black so if lost on what to do next I would find a faction first so you can get used to the forum and then have group you can rp with if nervous ask someone to rp with you

Hey @e_black162_2 and welcome to Star Wars Roleplay!
It's awesome to see more people like you coming to our community and to the roleplaying world. The first thing I'll mention is that most of the welcome threads we have are all referring to the Legacies timeline, and they probably will be updated and revamped for the Dawn of the Republic timeline. However, there are a few that still apply.
Before you start thinking about roleplaying I'd like to direct you to the Rules and Guidelines board. Everything there still applies for general roleplaying EXCEPT for the disallowed Force powers and planets/species threads. (Here is an excellent new writeup on the Force for the next timeline, I highly recommend the read!)
The next (and probably most important) thread you should read is this one. It gives you some basic rules and guidelines to follow while roleplaying. My best advice is to make sure you use proper grammar and sentence structure; trying to read a run-on sentence that just goes on and on is very difficult thing as a fellow roleplayer.
It's excellent that you've already made a character, I've taken a look and he looks great for your first! One thing I'd mention is that although you used the character template quite well, it's also for the Legacies timeline. Not that they won't be using the same one, but just be ready to possibly have to edit Merrik before you start RPing with him (specifically with the force powers, see above for the new method we'll be using for Force Sensitive characters).
Beyond that all I'd suggest is read! That's the best way to learn how everything works here. Feel free to message me if you need any more help getting off the ground.
PS: If you're feeling up to it, you may even want to learn about BBC code and how to use it. (BBC code is the basic coding of the forum, it's quite handy to know) Here is a thread that Bee wrote up if you want to learn the basics, and here is the workshop board where you can find templates to spice up your character's profile.
