Ruby grew up as any other child would on Chandrila. Her life was easy going, and she knew no hardships.
Bored of planet life, when Ruby turned eighteen, she took the first transport out of system. she continued to jump from freighter to freighter, offering her skills as a mechanic for passage to other worlds. Life was good for Ruby, she had her work, and she was traveling the galaxy.
Nine years went by like this. Ruby saw many worlds, from the core worlds to those deep in the outer rim. While out in the outer rim, Ruby grew homesick. She was able to book a series of passages that would return her to her home on Chandrilla.
Disaster struck the ship she was traveling on near the border between the mid rim and the inner rim, near the planet of Tarris. Pirates attacked and boarded the ship. The pirates that Ruby saw had dark red and black armor completely covering thier body. Two of the pirates gathered all the passengers and placed them in one area. Five pirates searched through the passengers and thier belongings, however, from what Ruby could see, they took nothing. After ten minutes of this, the pirates gathered all the crew and killed them one by one. The pirates never spoke a single word aloud. One woman walked forward, and leaned in close to one of the pirates. The pirate took this woman and as fast as they arrived, the pirates were gone. Even after the pirates were gone, Ruby could feel the ship moving. The crew was dead, but the ship was moving somewhere. In a panic, Ruby ran to the bridge, finding that the pirates set the transport ship on a collisions course with Tarris. The time to collision kept ticking down, with less than an hour to go before Ruby, and the rest of the passengers, would crash into Tarris. It took Ruby thirty minutes to overrides the control and bring the ship into a stable orbit.
Shortly after, a ship identifying itself as a Republic Judicial Force gunship requested permission to dock. Ruby waited in the bridge, checking the systems for any other hidden traps left by the pirates. A Rodian walked on to the bridge, followed by a few soldiers. He introduced himself as Commander Dridd Prieek. After Ruby explained what the pirates had done and how she bypassed it, Commander Prieek insisted that she join the RJF. Ruby turned down the offer, saying she just wanted to go home.
Some time later, Ruby made it to Chandrila, and met with her parents after a long nine years since she saw them last. A month later, Ruby decided to join the RJF, in large part due to the words of Commander Prieek. Ruby spent the next two years in training to become a skilled pilot, marksmen and a proper officer of the RJF.
After successfully being promoted to a Lieutenant, Ruby was given her first posting as a freighter pilot.

Ruby is a very easy going woman. She prefers to go along with the flow, taking everything in stride. Despite her long time traveling, Ruby still wants to travel, to experience all the galaxy has to offer.
When confronted with a difficult problem, Ruby devotes all of her time and attention to solving it. This has led to Ruby shirking other responsibility, relationships and even basic necessities such as eating. This led to her being called the Cold Tourist by her fellow soldiers during her RJF training.
Ruby tends to get herself into trouble, sometimes intentional, but most of time it is unintentional. Ruby has a very curious nature, and this leds her to places where most would not venture.
Despite being in the RJF, Ruby has trouble with authority. She skirts the lines of what is permitted. Her issues with her commanding officers is what led to Ruby being given the job of a glorified freighter pilot.
