Remote Utility Dropper - RUD
[/beebox3]
[beebox3=94%]
Affliation: N/A

Intent: Getaway tactics and hands free grenade release.

Model: RUD-MK1.2

Weight: 1 kg for empty belt with all electronics

Composition: Nylonite, Callacord.

Capacity: 3 grenades of choosing

Description: RUD is almost the same as any standard utility belt that can hold grenades, besides the fact that its connected to your communicator. Once a programmed phrase reaches the microphone, the assigned charge is being dropped. The belt is equipped with magnetic locks that prevent the charges going of without releasing them. Grenades are to be primed at the beginning of the fight, the activation timers have to be set by the user himself. If there is no information about timers in the thread, standard timers apply. The idea is to help a fighter that has no means to use hands to use the grenades.

Maybe it is just me, but this seems like it is pretty generic if I'm being honest. As far as technology is concerned, I could almost certainly build one of these in my garage right now.

Other than that, don't you think that something being voice activated would work against a stealthy character? What if he is having a normal conversation, and someone accidentally triggers it? I think that having a conversation with this guy would be interesting, because he would avoid three distinct words in order to prevent his feet from exploding.

On a serious note though, if it connects to a communicator, would this be a separate communicator, or would this be his own communicator? If the latter, I would say that it may be important to make a not that he cannot use the comm device while it is connected to the belt, and/or a manual connect between the comm device and the belt is necessary to connect it to be able to use the comm for its more traditional uses and switch back to hands free grenade usage.

Other than that, it looks as if you stated that the grenades go off upon impact with the ground. If any of these are lethal, that would hardly be enough time to reasonably escape the blast radius of the grenade by the time it is released. Even traditional grenade timers (I would say 5 seconds average) wouldn't give the user enough time to escape. Can you expand on whether lethal grenades are capable of being outfitted for use in this device, and can you also explain whether or not extended timers need to be outfitted on these grenades? At the current moment, I can only really imagine a smoke grenade being used on this belt, and if that is the case, I can't really see it being very useful. If it is used in close proximity as it is explained in the intents section, a smoke grenade probably wont be of immense use since an attacker at close range wouldn't easily lose you -also, a smoke grenade takes time to expand to a volume that is capable of concealing someone.

That's just my opinion though.

Well you are right in one thing that i only described how would smoke and gas grenades go off. Frankly i don't think it's really up to me to place timers on grenades, the tool is only to drop generic ones, so if a user says at his starting post what timers the grenades have and what kinds of grenades those are i think it should be more than sufficient description of what a person feels like using RUD for. I could think about several uses for explosion grenades for example using jet pack to swiftly get away from it or force jump, leaving an opponent in the radius or if situation is really dire for sort of kamikaze bluff.

And you're right, i could open my code editor right now and write a program for this in 10 minutes. The thing is I felt it could be kind of abusive if used so I wanted to have a clear conscience and let the admins run through my concept.

Voice activation - here is a tricky one, I couldn't come up with anything else that would let a character use RUD with his hands locked in lightsaber struggle of strength that wouldn't simply involve hands. I was thinking about blinking patterns that would be read by retinal scanner inside the helmet, but i felt like it would feel stupid as hell and focusing on blinking AND overpowering an enemy with your strength (which is kinda exhausting) isn't a very good idea. As for stealthy character using voice activation, I don't think RUD would be used any other way than in combat since it activates a grenade explosion, it blows your cover anyway. Im open for suggestions in matter of activation though.

That makes more sense. Perhaps you could detail it for the reader thatthey would have to specify the grenade timers on their profiles and/or before entering an Open thread, because the way it is written makes me feel like All the grenades used in the belt would have an upon contact detonation.

And perhaps you could update the the intent section to have, in addition to what you already have or in placement of, something along the lines of: A tactical hands free grenade release.
Not necessarily in those words, but it isup to you whether you add that intent or not.

I only suggest adding that to the intents because I think that the voice activation is your best method of activation, but it kind of works against the idea of stealth.

Wouldn't this be the kinda thing a character could just 'have?' Its just a voice activated grenade belt, pretty much.

To make this a little better, i would add things like the grenades are magnetically clasped to the belt with a mechanism holding each one, not allowing grenades to be activated while in the belt, so force users can't just turn on all your grenades.

That is actually a pretty neat idea, thank you :)
