DESCRIPTION​

The S4F3-Series of combat medical droids were designed by Industrial Automaton to serve the armed forces of the Galaxy as combat medics, freeing up other resources to counter attack or better defend. Designed during the waning days of the Galactic Civil War using Imperial research grant credits, the Empire classed the project as a failure for the same reason that Industrial Automaton deemed the project to be a resounding success; the droids cared.

Throughout their design process, lessons had been learned from Industrial Automaton's previous medical droids and taken into account. One thing that was seen as lacking was, surprisingly, the bedside manner - namely that their previous models were all very detached and this, sometimes, caused patients and families more grief. At the same time, discussions with sentient doctors and nurses confirmed that the reason why excellent medical professions were excellent, nine times out of ten it was attributed to how much they cared about the patient.

So the spindly S4F3-Series droids were programmed to allow for learning and with pre-programmed guidelines that would push the droid's development toward caring for the lives of their patients. While this has meant that the S4F3-Series has been a welcome, comforting, sight on battlefields across the Galaxy, it also means that they are shaken when they are unable to save their patients.

This has led several S4F3-Series droids becoming depressed as they care deeply for each patient they lose and they are not able to easily forget them as memory wipes need to be carefully done to avoid losing the medical knowledge and experience gained. No one in the Empire cared enough to provide therapeutic help to droids, especially when they didn't even bother to do that for their troopers. This has resulted in many hundred production runs of the droids being mentally wounded but too valuable and too involved to do anything but heal more.

Intent is to add a new droid to the site that can be used as both a player droid and as a droid used by governments within the Site's Canon.
