Supernova_zpsutc2tnsv.jpg

Affiliation:
Bounty Hunters' Guild.

Ownership: N/A.

Intent: To create an interesting and new, non-lethal, grenade specifically designed to level the playing field against Force Wielders.

Model: SA-38G "Supernova" Grenade.

Type: Grenade.

Size: Grenade size! So, small-ish?

Composition: Durasteel shell. Transparisteel lenses. Plastic grip. Tricopper wiring.

Range: If not used with any kinda launcher, as far as you can throw it!

Ammunition Capacity: N/A.

Description: The SA-38G was developed by Sentinel Arms on Edem, decades prior to the species emerging from their home nebula and making contact with the Republic. The 'grenade' is a non-lethal device specifically designed to counteract rogue Force Wielders, due to the species' extreme stance on the "Dark Side". Being small and easily portable by anyone, even easily concealable, it is also a perfect tool for causing a distraction, or to cover your escape.

The SA-38G is affectionately referred to as the "Supernova", due to its' effects. After activation (whereupon you can select various methods of detonation, such as proximity sensor, impact, or timer that varies between one to eight seconds), the transparisteel lenses within the "grenade" begins to strobe rapidly at twenty thousand lumens, while releasing an audible shriek at 130 decibels with a rapidly varying pitch. This cacophony of sound and the flashing lights are specifically designed to disrupt the ability of a Force Wielder to concentrate, and thus, not harness their legendary powers. The Supernovas' power charge allows the device to operate for exactly 45 seconds.

Wouldn't this stun everyone within the general vicinity of the grenade?

Including the one who threw it?

That's...kinda how grenades work?

But unlike a regular grenade you can't hide behind a wall from sound. I'm saying that the high pitched noises would probably hurt the person who threw it too

From what i'm reading here, it doesn't hurt. So it's a non-issue

It would. But the thrower would know said wall of noise and light is coming. So, they'd probably have taken precautions for that, now wouldn't they, hmm?

"There is only one bounty hunter who uses that kind of sophisticated and expensive equipment. Boba Fett."
Bossk
from the wookieepedia page. I know it means nothing, as its from wookieepedia, but since we're talking about the as if they are something, I figured it was appropriate.
Maybe you could make them a thing though! That would be cool : D

I wish I knew what you meant :D for the time being, I'm going to stop commenting, as this conversation is now becoming irrelevant to the tech profile. Have a nice night/day!

I think @+SpaceJesus+ was asking about that- how would they accomplish that?

Easy, low-tech answer? Ear plugs and welding goggles.

High tech answer? Pimped out helmet of some kind with sound dampening and a visor that automatically detects and filters out extreme light levels, like Boba's EU/Legends bucket.

Weeeeeeeelllllllll... 20 000 lumens is insanely bright, like floodlight bright, and 130 decibels is like standing next to an air raid siren. So it can cause hearing loss and temporary blindness if you're unlucky. But then, a real life flasbang creates 170 decibels, which is the equivalent of a howitzer going off, but that's a single bang, rather than a 45 second long scream. A jet engine at take off, however, is 140 decibels. Either way, it'd be painful, but not to the point of debilitation (unless you're a Bith...). Your ears would most definitely be ringing, and you'd likely see spots for some time.

Would there need to be a technology app for what is being described?

Kind of what I was trying to say. This is gonna need a little bit more than a pair of earplugs to drown out.

Dunno. Maybe? Clayton doesn't like loads of tech crammed into a bucket.

Well, you do see people operating howitzer batteries without going deaf by wearing ear protection, so if you were wearing dedicated hearing protection, I don't really see too much of an issue. And again, it's not as loud as a real world flashbang.

And as it's lying there, screaming and strobing, there's nothing to prevent you from just running away, unlike the old EU/Legends concussion grenades that used quasi-lethal kinetic shockwaves to "stun" you.

Would you belief me if I said I can concentrated with a constant 140 decibel noise going of.

But flashing lights is a annoying. Either way this is a great Non lethal tool for use against Force users or any one. I would assume the user would wear a helmet that cancelled out the high volume of the noise and the bright light. I mean it is not that hard to do. You don't need to remove the sound just reduce it and same for the light. Throw in some training where you have them go of in front of you and bam you good to go.

It depends on what/how you were concentrating on. As I'd imagine you were wearing some kinda hearing protection. And the Force has been shown to require especially deep levels of concentration. Just take Vader not being able to apply telekinetic pressure on Ezra's lightsaber while defending himself from Kanan's lightsaber attack.

Remember how hard it was to say your name while stuck in a tent with tear gas during your basic training? Now imagine if you had to recite a poem you had been given only a minute to memorize.

But anyway, approved.
