PERSONALITY

"Altissima quaeque flumina minimo sono labi (the deepest rivers flow with least sound).
-- Latin Proverb

On the surface, Adama is a cold, still pool of water, virtually untouched by outside influences and only showing the faintest of ripples. This tranquility and sense of detachment earned her the nickname "Ice Queen," given to her by her peers in her youth. She made the perfect Jedi, it seemed, never letting her emotions cloud her judgment. In most things this was true, but like in the ocean, currents can run deep. She feels emotions intensely, but instead of letting them come out in her demeanor or everyday actions she stores the energy away. It is only tapped into when necessary. When she was a Jedi, this intensity came out in her lightsaber duels. She is the eye of the storm, possessing an iron will that keeps everything utterly controlled.

While Adama has a strong sense of loyalty, it is more to herself than anything else. She would never go against her own principles, whatever they might be. It isn't selfishness necessarily, instead being a high sense of self-respect that many others in the criminal underworld seem to lack, or at least confuse with self-preservation. Her sense of justice has softened since being in exile, no longer being the lofty and perfect idealism of the Jedi. Adama's code is of a more realistic bent, as she realizes that the greater galaxy is a messy place painted in shades of gray. She has ceased looking to the Force for guidance and generally ignores anything having to do with Jedi, considering that she fled into self-imposed exile instead of facing the council for her 'crime' of accidentally causing the death of a fellow Knight. While she won't ever express it, she feels like the rumors spread after her departure reflect the lack of cohesion in the Order. That being said, she won't waste her time trying to dispel the myths that she turned to the Dark Side, joined the Sith Brotherhood, or the myriad of other things that have been speculated.

ABILITIES

"She's scary, man. That face she has on when she's about to fight? She's like a bull in a stall, and someone just has to open the door for her to let go. I've never seen a woman with that attitude. I feel bad for those people who have to face her. Good Lord." -- Adama's former master
Adama is a speed demon. As a youngling she would often win footraces and similar friendly contests of athleticism, and has she not been in the Jedi Order as a child, she would most likely be a professional track-and-field athelete or sprinter. Her reaction times are just as quick, though coming not from any natural ablility. Instead it comes from her years spent in the Jedi Order under Amee Chano's tutulage.

Her lightsaber skills are where she shines, boasting precision and speed. She was never one to favor the choppy, wild style of Juyo or the forceful Form 5. Form 4, even, Ataru, was much to flamboyant for her tastes. While not being a carbon copy of her master, Adama was nothingless strongly influenced by Chano and picked Niman as her primary form, with Soresu as her second. Adama moves with a fluid grace, taking to heart Form II's philosophy of being the "eye within the storm." Within this semi-meditative state her ferocity comes out to play, the duel becoming a dance between her and her opponent. As she was a formidable opponent one-on-one, she could also handle herself well on the battlefield. She fed off the chaos and unpredicability, letting it fuel her aggresssion in a way some would call dangerous had they seen what truely went on inside. If it were not for her iron will and self-control, it certainly might have been.

APPEARANCE

Adama is a reasonably tall woman with a lean, angular frame. She boasts no womanly curves to speak of, instead possessing a titanium-strength that one wouldn't suspect. Overall she is remarkably unremarkable, being able to easily pass as human in most situations. Her features are plain, with light skin and brown eyes. Having Firrerreo heritage, her skin turns a pewter color when she's upset. Her hair is black, cut in a choppy bob with straight bangs often swept out of the way. Adama couldn't be bothered to keep it nice or perfectly styled, let alone get frequent, professional haircuts to keep her style's shape. She prefers to forgo makeup of any kind except for formal occasions, and even then it is very natural, almost unnoticeable. Her clothing style is utilitarian, with simple lines and flexible fabrics. Most often she has on black pants, boots, and an orange jacket over a black t-shirt.
The one concession to her aversion to adornment is her stretched ears, kept at a small gauge. Most often she wears basic silver tunnels or opal plugs. When she's not on a mission or in physical training she'll wear butterfly charms through her tunnels. Alternatively, for formal occasions, she wears swan ear hangers.

Where Adama came from holds little significance to her story as she was given to the Jedi Order as an infant. She spent her childhood years in the Tython temple, having the rest of the younglings and her instructors as family. Early in her training it was discovered that she had was strong in the Force, having a gift for perception especially. Adama was called an ice queen by her classmates as a joke, referencing her stoic and reserved demeanor. She embraced it, and the only real time she wasn’t quiet and brooding was in physical training and sparring.

She was picked at the age of ten to be the Padawan of Jedi Knight Amee Chano, a woman known for honoring tradition and being a harsh taskmaster. She fostered her Padawan’s ferocity in combat, not condoning a love for violence necessarily, yet certainly feeding the more aggressive side of Adama's personality. One of most challenging training exercises was using candles and ball bearings arranged in a ring, the goal being to use a predetermined series of movements to knock the ball bearings off without melting the candles with the lightsaber blade. Chano used exercises like these to emphasize speed and precision over other qualities such as strength, as these were the core tenants of her personal style.

Adama and Chano went on many missions together, including some in the outer rim where armed conflict abounded. The pair grew close and a force bond formed between them during the long ten years that they worked together. After Adama passed her trials and became a Knight, they continued to work together on a regular basis. Over time, rumors spread about the pair potentially having nefarious associations or inclinations, as on a handful of occasions the Jedi they had been working with on a mission were killed in action or narrowly escaped. Chano would have none of it, and both of them decided to set things straight by tracking down the Jedi Hunter that was currently having a field day. Neither of them anticipated well enough the gravity of their mission, or the consequences of them embarking on it.

Three years ago:

The hunting knife fell from Adama's hand as it went limp from emotional shock, the weapon falling into the snow without a sound. Her dark brown eyes were as round as saucers, tears welling up and threatening to spill out over her cheeks that were reddened from the bitter cold. The black hair that peeked out from the furry hood of her parka was dusted with flakes of snow, as it kept falling rather heavily.

A brilliant, bright red stained the pure white snow, creating a surreal and tragic kind of beauty. It outlined the body of another woman, her limbs laying at unnatural angles. Her parka was ripped open, showing spots of blood around stab wounds on her abdomen and neck. Her eyes were glassy, her mouth agape, her chest still. Above both women was a tall cliff, suggesting at least part of the story to her death. The valley was filled with trees-- tall, ancient pines in a brilliant shade of green that gave the only natural color to the landscape.

Adama stood as still as a statue, not fully processing what she saw before her. Hearing the urgent crunch of footsteps on snow behind her, she snapped to her senses and whirled around with a hand on her lightsaber. Her first instinct was to believe it was the attacker that killed her former master, but was graced with a small sense of relief when she realized it was the Antaran Ranger accompanying them on their mission, a Corellian named Julik "Zero" Alexant. The respite was short lived as he raised his rifle.

"What did you do?!" Zero shrieked. "Chano's dead!"

"I-I don't know?! I didn't do anything!" she answered, her voice rising in intensity to match his. Instinctively she raised her arms up by her head, fingers splayed out to show she wasn't holding anything. Adama slowly began backing away.

"What do you mean you don't know?! You were the one holding the damn knife covered in blood--Hey, stop moving!" His rifle tracked to follow her movement, settling on the center of her forehead.

Adama obeyed, standing still. Her body was trembling, her heart raced. The fear she was feeling leaked out into her Force signature, though Zero most likely would not be able to feel it. Most Antaran Rangers were not Force Sensitive, and those that were barely still had any true, workable connection.

"It was you, this entire time!" his voice shook slightly, thick with grief. "I worked with those Jedi. I worked with you. And Chano. How could you?"

"I already told you! I'm not taking the fall for something I didn't do!" The Force began swirling around her, her body sucking it in like a diver gasping for air. She wasn't going to kill him, or even hurt him more than necessary. It pained her indescribably to see others harmed at her own hands. "
Zero, put the blaster down. I'm not going to run away or harm you! I promise. I can't prove my innocence, but you can't just shoot me."

"You're a liar. You killed Chano! There's no other explanation, none!" His face twisted with rage and grief.

"Zero--Don't you dare!" she screamed.

Everything seemed to move in painfully slow motion as her body brimmed with the Force. Her forearms slammed together to shield her face as Zero's finger wrapped around the trigger, pulling it back. A wall of shimmering energy materialized in front of her as the blaster bolt shot toward her. It never hit her, instead slamming into the protective barrier and shattering it like glass. The kinetic energy at impact sent Zero and Adama flying in opposite directions.

Adama came-to some time later, her body aching and badly bruised beneath her parka and cold-climate armor. She could see the trail of snow she left as she slid. Gingerly she sat up, first onto her elbows, then fully upright. Her ears were still ringing, and she felt utterly exhausted like her body were made of lead. In the distance she could make out Zero, eerily still. Closing her eyes, she quieted her mind and felt out for his life force. Her breath caught in her throat as she encountered an empty hole where his body was, with only a sense of loss where there should have been pulsing energy. In a panic she struggled to her feet, walking as quickly as she could over to him.

"No no no....no...please god no...." she pleaded, tears welling up again.

Suddenly she stopped. Adama stood still as a statue, making no noise except for a faint and high pitched groan. A sudden gasp in, before she pushed it all out with a scream that echoed throughout the valley. She fell to her knees with her face in her hands. Yet, her screams and protests echoed through the force with a still greater intensity, rippling far out from her Force Signature. The few animals that were near fled the vicinity.
