Saliphin Tenendril - Zalian
Kayin Tendaji - Mike
[OOC: Excuse the long intro post ^.^ I wanted to set the scene.]
Kayin was lead into the dueling arena blindfolded. It was the day of an important sparring contest among some of the promising older students at the Temple. The Jedi believed that competition to encourage excellence was a valuable pursuit, and there were even spectators. They included a few instructors, friends of the contestants, and even masters considering taking on their Padawans.
Reaching the center of the ring, Kayin let himself be stopped by the gentle encouragement of the hand on his shoulder. As his blindfold fell away he could see his surroundings for the first time. He was in one of the Temple's exercise rooms, adapted to become a stage for the duels. The room was many meters across, with stylized off-white walls forming a rough hexagon. The magnificent standards of a half dozen heroes from all ages and backgrounds adorned the wall, adding to the pomp of the setting.
The floor was made out of tough, but soft rubber to avoid bloody scratches when one competitor was knocked down. A large area marked by a blue-lit boundary was the arena. When one opponent received a telling blow from their opponent's training saber, or stepped out of the ring, the duel was called to an end. A blow from a training saber set to low power was painful and disabling, but might fail to end the match if not delivered to a killing target.
All this Kayin already knew, or else took in on a background level, for his attention was focused on the young man in front of him. Saliphin he thought was the boy's name, though he might be wrong. He knew the fellow trainee's face from group exercises, and had observed his favorite style to be Soresu, coincidentally the same form that Kayin practiced. However, he had never fought the other man, and didn't know quite how he measured up against him.
Not letting any of this ignorance show on his face though, Kayin smiled genially in greeting and presented his hand to be shook as a tradition of respect before each duel. His eyes were bright with anticipation, and he couldn't help but to introduce himself "Kayin." he said cheerfully. "I've seen you around, you're just as good as me in our exercises. Should be fun testing ourselves eh?"
