The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 against a lawsuit brought by critics of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The lawsuit alleged that a plain text reading of a statute said that federal subsidies could only be granted to those on a state exchange, not on a federal exchange. The government argued that the intent of the law was clear, and that, when the law is read in its full context, those on federal exchanges are also meant to receive federal health care subsidies.
Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy, both on the conservative wing, joined the Court's four liberal justices. Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito dissented.
They made the right decision here. This case was stupid.
