The inactivity in the Senate is irking me. This is not Adena's fault, she's more than done her part, but a lack of initiative on our parts as members of the Senate.

That being said, I'd like everyone who is a member of the Senate to post somethings they'd like to see the body do. Keep in mind that our RPs can range from making new laws, to debating and holding hearings on the battles, to pretty much anything the Senate has the authority to do.

Now that we've had the timeskip, I think we should start making ourselves more involved in the Republic's day to day affairs.

I made my Senator in the hopes of some political RPing, but thus far, there have only been two Senate RPs since I joined last September and both took place within weeks of the timeskip.

Anybody with ideas are welcome, and I will be posting a few of my own very soon, once I get some of them finalized.

Let's get the Senate back into the galactic spotlight and show them that we're not just sitting here collecting dust! :)

I've been saying for a while that I would like to get Committees active. When it comes to a war (let alone the simple day to day running of a government) there are endless possibilities for committees. Whether it be a Senate Armed Forces Committee, a Senate Select Committee for Intelligence, a Senate Appropriations, or whatever else, there are ways for our senators to feel involved in the war against the Hutts.

The reason I keep pushing for committees is I think it's a good way to realistically limit the number of Senators involved on a particular thread/issue. After all, if every Senate thread was open to all senators, things would get bogged down simply due to the number of writers involved. However, if we can take the active Senator PCs and divvy them into separate committees (and give them a list/guide of what they should be trying to accomplish) I think it could lead to a lot of activity.

Oh, and on a side note, there have been more than two Senate RPs, but the only real one was the Senate attack...so I guess I see why that was overlooked lol.

I'd like to see the Senate go the committees route, specifically investigating things after battles, analyzing intelligence, etc. From a practical OOC standpoint, the Senate really can't make decisions on the war or else nothing would ever get done, but they can certainly play an investigational and analysis role.

I actually had some ideas for this, such as organizing the Senate into different committees. There a list on Wookiepedia, and we can always make some of our own if that was necessary.

I would actually like to organize the Senate and do some really neat debates and investigatory work, since I see huge potential for some fun here and have so many ideas for it, but it pretty much seems to me dead all the time.

I'll see what I can do about committee ideas and get back to everyone on it.

Except that the battles have just started so the committees wouldn't have much to do in regards to the war yet

There are many more committees than just ones concerned with defense. That's why there's so much potential for them.

Yeah, and we also need to know what we can/can't do from Adena's point of view. Both as the IC and OOC Faction Leader, we would have to run things by her before going forward with anything.

I know she's aware of the committee idea, since I messaged her about it a few weeks ago, but between the business of the time skip and her RL house buying stuff the lady is pretty busy. We need to cut her a bit of slack and not expect anything drastic to happen immediately.

Well, for starter's, the Senate can't be making actual decisions about the war. It'd take too long to do that and it just bogs Adena down in an unnecessary bureaucracy. For anything else I would say that if the Senate wants to pass laws or something, Adena could veto it.

I approached her about an idea similar to what Mars does for the Hutts; managing the Mandalorians and taking care of that sub-faction's business, while leaving Santoro to focus on the main Hutt forces.

She approved this, but, like you said, she's been really busy so I haven't bothered her too much about following up on it. This way, she wouldn't have to worry about each individual sector of the Republic, and with the Senate being managed for the most part by a different person, she could focus on the larger things without have to worry about us.

Of course, IC'lly and OOC'ly, the Chancellor is in charge and Adena will be there to approve of each of our actions when needed, but this way there is someone organizing things for the Senate to do and participating in without Adena having to rush back and forth between all of her duties within the Republic as well as worrying about RL stuff.

I like the sound of that, kinda like the American Speaker of the House or something.

Wait, what was the dude's name...Mas Amedda I think? Wasn't he some sort of head of the senate when Sidious came to power?

EDIT: Boom, how about that Malon?

Exactly like that.

EDIT: Mas Amedda was Vice Chair, which is like the Speaker of the House, which is exactly what I was thinking of when I PMed her about this.

I'd nominate Adham Bac for Vice Chair but Brandon would have an OOC conflict of interest.

I'd be up for putting Orion in the position given that it gains admin approval and Adena's approval more importantly.

Above all, I just want to see the Senate live up to its full potential instead of sitting here doing little to nothing.
