She hated being called to tend children.
She kept her head tall, her steps clipped on the duracrete beneath her. She wasn't rattled.
Her hands grasped the handle of her bag all the tighter. But her patience was stretched as thin as wire. She felt like she was about ready to snap, it ached in her neck and shivered down her spine. She ached to have something, someone, some emergency call her right now, or better yet to have something to obliterate the next two days from her memory. Just.. something until she was cool again.
That was when she felt it at the base of her spine, tremoring in the small of her back.
Someone was stalking her. And soon they would be on her back. She gritted her teeth, feeling like she could use a damned good drink right now. She really didn't want to deal with one more mugger right now.
