DESCRIPTION
The Sentinel-class landing craft is a model of heavy shuttle developed and co-manufactured by Cygnus Spaceworks and Sienar Fleet Systems, originally for the Galactic Empire, although many continue in service through to the present day. Designed to support mass planetary landing operations from orbit, the Sentinel is a tough, reliable ship, well suited to either heavy combat or routine cargo and personnel transport missions.

The Sentinel is 38 meters in length, 18 meters longer than the earlier Lambda-class shuttle. It incorporates the trademark Cygnus folding wing system, making it easier to handle aboard ships. The Sentinel is flown by a crew of 5, including a pilot, copilot and 3 gunners. Like most Imperial-contract Sienar-Cygnus designs, safety is of secondary concern; the ship's cockpit serves as the only escape pod, allowing the crew to survive but leaving the 75 passengers to fend for themselves. The Sentinel can also carry 180 tons of cargo, including light vehicles, and has consumables for up to a month in space.

In the present day, the Sentinel still serves in the arsenals of many militaries, although it is also flown by various civilian operators. Pirates and other criminals highly prize Sentinel-class shuttles when they can get hold of them, owing to their decent armament, their ability to deploy relatively large numbers of raiders and their capacity to haul away large quantities of loot.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Although they are technically mere transports, Sentinel-class shuttles are still military equipment, and civilian operators will require extra licensing to operate one legally.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from canon into our site's fanon.
