Many Sith are the results of bad parenting, whether because the parents were simply unfit to raise a child or because the child in question was too extraordinary to respond in the desired way to the predominant parenting methods. Usually it's the parents, yet in Shere Cann's case it was quite the other way around. Plagued by his species' temper, Shere was quick to anger even without his unusual connection to the Force. Emotions often got the better of him, which got him and his family expelled from several tribal communities on their homeworld. His parents stood by him despite his difficult behavior and tried their best to shower him in the love they thought he needed. In the end, though, it made everything worse.
As a kitten Shere had a profound sense of what was right and wrong, making it impossible for him to understand why he wasn't punished more severely after his temper tantrums had him claw the other children and got his entire family expelled. He wanted to be punished, something he strongly felt he deserved, yet still his parents spoke sweet consoling words to him. The feeling of injustice fueled his tempers tantrums which in turn increased in number the more emotional unstable he became.
Then one fateful day he couldn't stand the sound of his baby sister crying and his inability to make her stop. The screams of his mother that increased his headache and the fearful cowering of his father that followed after his sister's silence were only split second images devoid of emotion, as if they were separate shards of a mirror he only catches a glimpse of every now and then. When the rage subsided he found them all dead, clawed by his own bloodied hands.
Isolation and regret claimed him until a yellow-eyed woman took him to Yavin IV, where he'd be set on the path to meet the Dark Lord of the Sith. His master.
After witnessing the very Arauk'kesh that made Darth Malon the new Dark Lord of the Sith, Shere was invited to the citadel on Saleucami. A Dark Lord needed an apprentice, after all, and one that could be molded to one's own design had the most uses until he'd finally do the foolish thing and challenge the master. Malon had nothing to fear from a barely adolescent boy, but had an enormous fountain of knowledge to share with the youngster and his temperament. The Dark Lord began training his apprentice right away in the wastes of Saleucami.
A strange reality, considering his youth, yet perhaps also the perfect school for him one day taking the seat of the now aging Emperor Malon.
