SI C-44 Carbine

Affiliation: N/A

Ownership: N/A

Intent: Just an idea in my little head.

Model: SI C-44 Carbine

Type: Laser

Size: Carbine

Composition: Polymer, with some Durasteel components.

Range: 300 meters with iron sights, up to 500 meters with optics.

Ammunition Capacity: 25 + Recharger

Description: The SI C-44 was designed to be a light, compact and affordable weapon. The key breakthrough in it's design was the incorporation of an internal recharger battery in the stock. This allows the rifle to store enough energy for roughly 7 shots for use, separate from the attached magazine. The internal battery contains enough energy for hundreds of shots, but the energy must be released slowly, at a rate of about five seconds per shot. If the user has expended all shots available in the recharger cell, then energy will be drawn instead from the attached magazine. This feature removes the need for a user to "top off" a magazine if only a few shots were fired, and allows the rifle to be fired even without an attached magazine, if ambushed while reloading.

The C-44 is equipped with 4 standardized accessory rails, and is compatible with most after-market additions. A blaster version, dubbed the C-44B, is available, although the requirements of tibanna gas render the recharger largely pointless. As a blaster, this version is less accurate and has a lower effective range, but a higher rate of fire.

It's a lasgun (flashlight). Granted it seems to actually do more than just annoy people.

I've always toyed with the idea of making an Imperium of Man faction here, all NPCs, just something that PCs can interact with.

Like one system that a bunch of human stragglers got stranded in, with no hyperspace technology, either because of some astrological effect or that the Techpriests declared it heresy. Have the system be plagued with Orks, and the Emperor designs his Space Marines (Primarch's too) to finish off the Orks. Horus goes Darkside, wounds the Emprah, now he needs to drain psykers (force-users) to survive.

The two universes actually sync up fairly well, just 40k has more skulls.

Star Wars is pretty much the opposite of grimdark.

Granted, it's not grimdark, but the other elements can fit in. You'd have to shoehorn in the Chaos Gods/Daemons, probably just as a council of ruling Dark Side Lords and their respective underlings. Without focused training, force users match pretty well with 40k psykers.

The technology and lore is there that you could pull it off if you wanted to, grimdark comes later as the desperation sinks in.

Unfortunately, rechargers are on the expressly banned list (under the guidelines section of this post). As a partial consolation prize, however, I've recently talked Jiang into letting us have blasters with larger (but still reasonable) rechargable power cells. With that being said, you might be able to get away with a thirty or forty shot cell, but you'll have to carry a microfusion reactor around if you want to recharge it. Additional power packs are also recommended :P

To clarify here:

I'm okay with permanently embedded, non-swappable self-charging batteries which regenerate energy at a rate of not more than 1 shot every 5 seconds, whose overall total capacity is around 10 shots and no more than that. It'd be my strong, strong preference that you do not use recharging batteries, but the option is on the table if you absolutely positively must have it. It just won't be nearly as functional as a traditional power-pak. (Which is as it should be; standard power paks should have the advantage in literally every scenario except, perhaps, where survival/hunting blasters are concerned.)

For standard non-rechargeable power paks, I'm okay with power cells (for rifles and carbines) with a capacity of around 50 shots.

Edited to only recharge a shot once every 5 seconds, and capped the amount of readied shots within the recharger to 7.
