BIOGRAPHY
Silas was born rather poor, below the poverty line and the sun-level on Coruscant. His father was a drunkard, abusive and almost never sober. His mother was a prostitute and then a nightclub dancer after she married, but then one night Silas' father, in a stupor of liquor, turned his rage onto her. She died at his hands before help could ever arrive. Silas was only 7 or 8 at the time.
When Silas was 13 he found his father had died exactly as Silas thought he would. Silas opened the front door that morning and found his father had suffocated on his own vomit during the night after passing out on their doorstep, returning home from either a pub crawl or a brothel. Silas, rather than mourn the stubborn bastard he called father, decided to instead do the most fiscally advantageous thing; he sold his father's remains for "parts". Walking into the cantina of a well-known gangster as a 13-year-old hauling your father's remains behind you in a dufflebag is not how most black market dealers start their careers. At first, when Silas dropped the bag in front of the gangster, the alien was confused. The Sullustan gave him a look from his one good eye that probed Silas stoney expression for any hint of regret or remorse. He instead found a boy eager for profit.
Silas, by the age of 22, had become a well-known name in the Coruscant underground. If one needed an item of particularly exotic, rare, or illegal tastes, they knew the one man that could get them. Around the age of 33, Silas finally decided he'd stop doing his own dirty work and became simply a broker. He arranged assassinations, black market purchases, established bounties, and even lobbied senators to push certain legislation. At the age of 35, Silas travelled to Corellia to attend a gala thrown by an as of yet anonymous client. Once he met the client, he found himself face with the heir to Corellian Engineering Corporation and famed Pro-War Senator, Aren Krass. The two soon found out just how much they had agreed upon regarding the current political atmosphere of the Republic. They became long time acquaintances, and this has carried over into current days.
Other business connections include Admiral Kalin Varne and numerous criminals in addition to "legitimate" businessmen.
Recently, however, Silas has expressed an interest in becoming the Senator of Coruscant, as the seat is open and he believes that the Republic is in dire need of protection, and believes he can appropriately represent his homeworld.
Silas approached Aren Krass, using his history with the man, to help nominate him as the Senator of Coruscant. After an agreement was reached, Amory spoke to a large group privately within the Coruscanti Parliament at a gala thrown for them at his penthouse (after having been fully recover from the couple weeks before). He convinced (and bribed) enough of them to essentially signal boost his name enough in the coming election to make it so that he was the biggest name in people's minds when they went to the polling center.
PERSONALITY
Silas is known for being sly, smooth, and sometimes pretentious. As long as a lie can get him what he wants, he is more than willing to abandon the truth altogether. When he lies, he makes sure his lies are thorough and as detailed as possible, and keeps careful track of what he says mentally to prevent being caught in conflicting lies.
He's often careful about keeping many of his personal details secret, and the only apartment listed under his name is his Coruscant Penthouse (which he owns outright). A man of refined tastes, Silas would much rather enjoy a quiet night reading while enjoying a bottle of Naboo Moscato as opposed to striking a deal with come mobster in their seedy cantina. Galas and balls and formal dinners are Silas' preference of gathering, and loud, rowdy, over-the-top parties are a rare occurrence when he is involved.
While he solely cares about turning a profit and manipulating his enemies, the few friends Silas has are somewhat dear to him. If one were to be hurt, Silas would do almost everything in his power to seek revenge. While on the outside he may appear a cold, calculated, and ruthless criminal businessman, he is capable of great compassion and caring.
Also worthy of note, Silas is historically known to be aromantic yet bisexual. While he has no desire to be in any sort of emotionally romantic relationship with another being, he is an active and sexual person even at his age.
POLITICAL VIEWS
Economy
Fiscally, Silas is a philanthropic capitalist. While he believes that pay is earned and not entitled, he understand that someone working 40 hours a week should not be living in poverty. He strongly advocates for systems like Post-Retirement Pay (Social Security), and programs like functioning Public Healthcare. He does not advocate tax loopholes for businesses, and he supports a tax bracket system based not on a person's true income alone, but based on what their hourly/monthly pay is against the amount of time they worked.
Defense
Silas is, and always has been, a very strong supporter of a centralized, galactic military. Seeing the Border Alliance as no more than farmers and militia with antiquated technology, he would do away with them and fully endorse the raising of a Republic Navy and Republic Army. However, he understand the logistics necessary, and is fully willing to simply contract out to PMCs who already fight for a living to instead fight for the Republic.
The Sith & The Jedi
Silas believes that the Sith are a threat to the Republic, at least in the long run. However, he does believe that the Sith are a healthy distraction for the Jedi, to hopefully keep the Jedi from meddling too much in the internal affairs of the Republic. At the same time, he acknowledges how the Sith manage to bring out the worst in the Jedi given enough time, turning them into pseudo-warlords on some religious crusade to purge the galaxy of infidels (and vice versa). He believes privately that both causes can be turned and corrupted if promised enough power (or whatever it is that the Jedi want??).
