Sith philosophy debate anyone?

I just had this idea of a philosophy debate amongst the Sith...my rules are no killing, maiming or burning (tee hee) if your character disagrees (we have whoopee cushions for expressing our discontent). I just thought it would be a nice idea, since it would be interesting to learn what interpretations exist across such a vast Order.

I started a class on the Sith Philosophy, which was well intentioned, but I abandoned it due to the wide variety of interpretations on the said topic, as well as the inconsistency and differences within canon. Essentially, I didn't want to cause controversy.

I also started an open thread in which characters could debate about Imperial and Sith politics. It was received the wrong way and responded to quite harshly. I abandoned it also, again to cease the controversy it caused.

I once suggested to another member that his character's beliefs could be dangerous in-character, which sparked conflict between us and lead to him abusing me both IC and OOC over several months.

Politics and philosophy in regards to the Sith can be a risky topic to include in RP and can lead to both OOC and IC conflict fast, which is why these days I steer clear of it. Though I'm happy to say that, both OOC and IC, the faction has become much more lenient and laid back in recent months.

That's unfortunate problems were caused. People are free to speak their opinions IC and OOC. However, openly speaking out against the Empress and whatnot could have some negative impacts. This is strictly IC speaking.

Meh, it was worth a shot...unless anyone has any ideas on how to do it without turning it into a mud/lightning-slinging festival?

I think the problem lies in having a much better idea of Sith in general than our SWRP Sith Imperium. I know a lot of misconceptions about the Jedi are going around, but I think ours have less of a violent nature and tend to be either non-issues or dealt with by directing a player to the "Misconceptions of the NJO" thread.

With my experience with Mitsuki the Sith are a lot more laid back in this timeline than in any of the canon.

Passive aggressive (Like most Jedi), but laid back nonetheless.
