I was reading over some stuff relating to The Old Republic and got an idea, to create to see if anyone would be interested in creating a faction called the Star Cabal.

It is a diverse group of individuals from all over the galaxy that believes that the Jedi and Sith are the main cause of all wars, and by extent, many of the galaxy's other problems, and work towards the common goal of eradicating both the dark and light side orders. They mainly work from behind the scenes and try to get the two main factions, Jedi and Sith, to annihilate one another and create a galaxy run by the "ordinary people." It recruited people as young as eleven and trained them from youth to be their agents. For direct assaults, the Cabal often hired mercenaries. The organization was very secretive and the recruitment process was intense, to get rid of any possible enemy infiltrators. Many of its operations included such activities as spy/counter-spy work, torture, manipulating individuals and organizations, sabotage, hacking and orchestrating massacres for influencing media, and sometimes, direct attacks on different targets using mercenaries (the "cloak and dagger" type stuff).

The Cabal's form of organization was not entirely established in The Old Republic, but based on what was revealed, I though of a fairly basic hierarchy that could be used: there would be group of agents and informants known as "enforcers", who would carry out the bidding of the inner circle, which consisted of beings of notable positions in other governments/factions. The enforcers were led by a tier of more senior agents, those who would be in direct contact with the inner circle and would act as field commanders and case officers.

Faction background:
In The Old Republic, the Cabal was ultimately destroyed in a joint operation by Imperial Intelligence and Republic Strategic Information Service. For the back story of the faction, it could be that a descendent of one of its former leaders had actually resurrected the faction in recent times due to the increased activity of Jedi and Sith, and it was now actively taking measures against both the Imperium and the New Jedi Order/Rebellion. The Star Cabal was recreated around 1,002 ABY, when the Sith first became publicly known. It's leader knew that another Sith-Jedi war was inevitable, and began making preparations for this. Its ultimate goal would be to get the Empire and the Rebellion/Jedi to completely destroy each other, and then rise to power in the vacuum that would follow. The Star Cabal would also secretly back such groups as the Coterie to help spread more chaos and confusion among the Empire's rank, and could turn to the Hutt Cartel to hire some of its hitmen as mercenaries.

Would anyone be interested in this faction?

I actually am interested in this faction but I don't think I will have the time to make a character for it

I actually have a character idea suited for this, although he'd probably be a simple mercenary in their employ.

I'd be more then happy to help with faction administration, lore stuff, and the like if you need it.

So looks like two people interested, that's good.

@Benvenu7 maybe one of your indie characters can join the Cabal?

The minimum a faction needs to be accepted is three members - so if Benvenu joins, then we can get started on creating the faction.

This is what the main information thread would look like, feel free to share your thoughts:

STAR CABAL

800px-Star_Cabal.png

"They were responsible, and so we resolved to control their actions from the shadows. To keep Republic and Empire separate. We were their secret masters--a Star Cabal."
―First Tank Resident

For thousands of years, the struggle for power between the Jedi and the Sith—and other Force users—have been the main reason for conflicts in the galaxy. Countless trillions of ordinary beings have been killed, either by fighting for one side or merely being unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire.

A group of influential individuals of various backgrounds that agreed that these conflicts cannot be allowed to continue came together in the aftermath of the Great Hyperspace War and formed an organization with the intent of separating the Sith and the Jedi, to minimize the damage that they do. But their successors realized that the goal was unrealistic, and thus they decided to eradicate both orders entirely. This was—and still is—the only way of making sure that the massive intergalactic wars that have killed so many will not happen again, and to ensure that civilization remains preserved rather than be destroyed at the hands of Force sensitives. No longer would common citizens have to be dragged off on their crusades or forced to beg at their temples.

Although the original Star Cabal was destroyed by the combined actions of Jedi and Sith operatives in the Cold War, it has been revived recently by several individuals seeking to fulfill the Cabal's centuries-old goal. The galaxy is once again being devastated by the conflict that is dragging on between the two Force groups (this time the New Sith Imperium and the New Jedi Order), and so the option of simply getting rid of both of them is becoming more appealing. A nobleman of one of the Ancient Houses of the Senex sector has acquired the Black Codex, a device originally built in 4598 BBY, after discovering an old Cabal safehouse. The Codex contains information on all of the Cabal's activities and history, giving him the information needed to restart the organization.

The modern Star Cabal is currently a small force working to rise to power in the galaxy and is using various methods from behind the scenes to accomplish this. That includes espionage, counterintelligence, torture, manipulating individuals and organizations, sabotage, hacking and orchestrating massacres for influencing media, and sometimes open battles against enemies of the Cabal.

This is what the organization section would be like:

ORGANIZATION

510px-Black_Codex.png

COUNCILOR
The Council consists of the highest ranking members of the Cabal, individuals of many different backgrounds and professions—many of which are rather shady—that comprise the leadership. Members of the council can range from regional politicians, rich businessmen, holodrama celebrities, and heads of various underground organizations (in other words, organized crime leaders). The Council rarely convenes, and when it does, few of its members are actually at the same location. For security purposes, many attend meetings through holograms rather than be physically present. This leadership body makes the major decisions of the Cabal and authorizes missions/operations. However, most of the rank and file agents of the Cabal almost never see any councilors, as they issue commands through their trust lieutenants.

LIEUTENANT
Loyal members of the Cabal, the lieutenants are various individuals that have extensive experience in the fields of espionage and black ops, acting as the Cabal's main leaders outside of the Council. They have combat and leadership experience, and are also trusted enough by the Cabal Council to meet with the higher-ups in person. The lieutenants act as field commanders during major missions conducted by agents of the Cabal and relay the Council's decisions and orders to lower-ranking operatives. They are, in essence, the officer corps of the Cabal. That is partly why many of the lieutenants are former military or intelligence officers.

EXECUTOR
Executors are the second tier of field operatives, below Enforcers, but do not have the same authority as lieutenants. They act as group captains and oversee/lead small teams of Enforcers, having shown both combat and leadership abilities. Executors are also regarded as "full" members of the Cabal, whether they be hired mercenaries or recruited agents. They have more authority and knowledge of the Cabal than Enforcers and are deemed to be "ideologically motivated" enough by the lieutenants. Executors can also be called upon to take on missions that are more sensitive and cannot be trusted to regular Enforcers.

ENFORCER
The lowest ranking members of the Cabal, the Enforcers are the many field operatives employed for the organization's missions. Their backgrounds and experiences range widely, but they are typically recruited based on their skills and psychological profiles. The recruitment process consists of an agent contacting the individual and testing them in some way to ensure they are reliable. Some Enforcers of the Cabal have been with the organization since they were teenagers and have been specifically trained for certain tasks, while others are mercenaries that are hired for single missions and are not permanent members of the organization. In any case, the Enforcers that show a particular amount of skill and loyalty to the Cabal, regardless of their background, have the chance to move up to the second tier of field operatives.

As a big time TOR fan, I thought I'd come in here and mention a few things about the Star Cabal.

The first thing is that the Star Cabal wouldn't really seek to destroy the Empire or the Rebellion. Members of the Star Cabal could potentially exist within the Rebellion or the Empire, much like members of the Cabal existed in the Empire and the Republic in TOR.

The Cabal objects to The Force and the ideology of the Sith and the Jedi. They could be devout followers of the Empress, but seek to remove the Sith from the Empire. The Star Cabal's main objective is primarily the removal of Jedi and Sith being the most powerful beings in the galaxy, because they believe the Jedi and Sith are capable of destroying civilization.

So in short, the Star Cabal is a secret society that could have members within the Empire or the Rebellion or the Hutt faction. They wouldn't seek to destroy any faction in particular, instead, their underhanded goals and operations would be towards eradicating Sith and Jedi alike.

Oh, OK, and yes, you can make a high ranking character since the faction would be just starting out.

Yes, it is my intent to target the Jedi and Sith specifically, rather than the Rebels or regular Imperials. The leadership of the Cabal would consist of some individuals who hold positions of moderate power in the Empire itself. It may also hire some Hutt bounty hunters/mercenaries if a certain mission calls for it.

Missions for the Cabal would probably consist of things like assassinating or capturing Sith and Jedi targets, attacking certain installations of theirs, and such events.

Well since I really don't want the jedi to die so soon maybe we should focus on the Sith a bit more considering how the war is going we would want the Sith to be weaker since they are the ones winning at the moment and we would need the two to fight it out so that both orders or destroyed

I suppose that makes sense. Your character could sign up for missions that are more directed against Sith than Jedi.

Yeah, think of the Cabal as taking the whole keep your friends close but your enemies closer approach. The Cabal would likely have agents in as many factions as possible so that they can control and manipulate things in a manner that is befitting them. It's a super secretive organization, when you're thinking about the Star Cabal, you're talking about beings of power and influence.

I guess if I were to use a modern day reference, think Illuminati or Free Masons.

LOCATIONS

320px-Sobrik_Vehicle_Depot.jpg

The Cabal does not have any one official headquarters, but a small facility exists on the backwater Mid Rim planet of Talay for usage as an operations base. Here, agents of the Cabal can meet for mission preparations with their superiors and receive equipment. It includes a hangar bay, a barracks, a communications room, several storage rooms, and several maintenance rooms. The facility is located at the base of a mountain, with tunnels dug under it to the other side in order to provide a quick escape if it becomes compromised. Members of the Cabal Council rarely visit the facility, as it is mainly used by low- and mid-ranking agents.

The 40 Mando's would each have an T97 Series X-wing plus 1 for Caine himself ( Rebels currently use them. ) the acquisition of which would be explained in my characters bio if this faction is approved.
