Myrkr
Old Empire Base
Header1-1536x800.jpg

Prompt:
1. After the Empire's abandonment of Myrkr, they have left loads of munitions and artillery in the scantily guarded base located there. Mandalorian strike teams will firebomb an old Empire base using ship to ground warfare against the local military that now inhabits the base. (Open, PvP)
Participants: 2-3
@Rayne Kelborn@Brianna Saxon

Rayne was at the helm of The Cloud, on approach toward the old base. After the Empire merged with th Republica, they had to pull out of several planets, leaving many bases like this one to be taken over by the local military. Today, Rayne and @Brianna Saxon would make them regret doing so.

Checks had been run, then run again, weapons systems, shields, tertiary systems were all online and running. Some recent upgrades had been performed and this was really the first time Rayne was getting to try them out. The base was over the horizon, they'd opted for a lower approach, rather than dive bombing them, to give them more time to assault before the local military could react.

Bri, we're coming up on the base now, I don't expect much resistance at first, but be on guard just in case.. Rayne called out over their secured comm line. The Cloud was a whistling beauty, new weapons systems, a backup shield generator, and a hell of a dam fine shinning new hyperdrive. Rayne was quite proud of her ship, and she was more than excited to use it.

Brianna wasn't found of the MM9, though she was unable to bring Cloud Nine into conflict currently until she had finished the upgrades to the small freighter. Still, the small craft did it's job, as she fell in behind The Cloud. She flipped on the deflector shield for her ship and primed the weapon systems. She was hoping for a quick strike and burn for both their sake, ever since that business near the pirate outpost in the middle of no where, Bri was starting to develop a small fear of space combat; though she would never admit it. "I'm ready Ray, just keep your gear up and running. Last thing I want to deal with is picking up the pieces of The Cloud on this creepy ass planet." She smirked, as she set herself to just a quarter off of the star fighter's max speed. Bri could see the indications of the base pop up on her sensors now as they skimmed over the tree lines below them. Kad guide my aim. She thought, blaming Ray for making her rely on her new damn curse word.

The two ships approached the base, they were low enough not to set off any sort of alarms, but once they came within half a kilometer Rayne began opening fire, Thunder!! Rayne yelled, her comms still open so Bri could hear how ridiculous she sounded, though only a second later two proton torpedoes lept from the ventral side of The Cloud, sending them sailing of their own accord toward the base, the resulting explosions would be both beautiful and terrifying at the same time, depending who's side you were on anyway.

A moment later Rayne yelled Lightning!! And The Cloud's main armamanet began to open fire. There were five dual heavy blaster cannon turrets, and three Heavy Laser Cannon turrets, most of which began to rain hell fire down upon the scantily guarded base, one of the Heavy Laser Cannon turrets had been mounted on the rear of The Cloud, and as such it began its firing as The Cloud was making it's pass.

Those below could in no way have expected such a brazen attack on their base, and that's exactly why Bri and Ray had the extreme upper hand, Surprise Mother Fhtagners!!! Rayne yelled, her excitement shining through.

Brianna's snickering would be drowned out over the calls of Ray, as she watched her bride to be's vessel blow the living hell out of the base down below. Part of her wanted to ask Ray to stop, but she knew the woman loved her little commands far too much to stop that; not that Bri could make her stop even if she wanted to. If anyone was still living there well....they wouldn't be for long. Bri angled her missiles towards the outer defenses of the base, her ship moving away from Rayne's ship as she fired off a missile and took out an anti air defense platform. She squeezed off a burst from her light cannons and toppled another defense turret before flying back beside the flank of The Cloud. The base was a smoldering ruin now, as Brianna could see the fires already starting to spread to an ammo dump. "Well sucks to be them right now. What do you think we should do? Another pass? Put them out of their misery?" Bri asked, knowing what the response would be.

Rayne was pretty much vibrating in her seat as she jumped up to stand. The Cloud had passed over the base, and Bri's ship had joined her now as they were circling back, Indeed, another pass.. Maybe even two.. Rayne replied, Rayne was loving seeing her ship in action, and she wouldn't be giving that up, Let's make it Rain(Rayne) wife! Rayne called back, her pronoun for her bride to be perhaps coming out a little ahead of time, they hadn't actually had an official wedding yet, but Rayne was confident it would happen regardless.

They had circled back now, and The Cloud began opening fire once more, after Rayne's signature, Thunder! call, this time only one Proton Torpedo left The Cloud, she was keeping two in case they got ambushed by any unwanted flying resistance. The torpedo fell to the surface, smashing into a building on the base, the resulting explosion rocking its foundation and bringing it down in with fiery death to anyone who was within.

The heavy laser, and blaster, cannons had already began opening up on some of the unburnt portions of the base, and in a far off corner a mounted anti air cannon began firing back at The Cloud, though its efforts merely brought a smile to Rayne's face, her shielding was far superior to the occasional bolt that actually made contact, while the bulk of the cannon fire missed The Cloud entirely.

Relaying the information to Bri, Rayne continued her onslaught of the base, it was possible some were still alive within, and Rayne wanted to change that.

Brianna snickered at the attempt on Ray's part to use her new pronoun. It was cute, though it certainly was going to take some getting used to. Brianna picked up a small group of fighters that seemed to be inbound, so she began to pull away. "Ray Ray, I got a set of hostiles inbound. Going to go ruin their day real quick. Try not to have too much fun without me." Pulling away, Brianna saw a total of three Sith fighters inbound, as she fired a quick burst into the lead fighter, striking its cockpit and making to begin to shake and falter before erupting in flames. She pulled up and shot over the remaining two fighters, as they seem conflicted on what to do. Two of them attempted to presue Bri, as the woman set herself to the max speed of her fighter and pulled up. She knew the Sith would try and presue her, in fact she was hoping they would, as having had the advantage of speed on her side, Brianna slowed and cockscrewed back towards the two ships, firing back at one of the Sith fighters as the clipped its wing and narrowly evaded a set of shots take at her. Pulling back up and away from the ground, Bri moved back towards Ray, knowing the Sith ships were in pursuit. "Hey, Ray I got to targets for your gunners. Might give them something else to shoot at." She grinned, as she maneuvered to give The Cloud's gunners a clear shot at the pursuing fighters.

Rayne's cannons had just finished taking out the last of the mounted anti air cannons when Bri's call came in.. Ray Ray?.. Rayne thought with a smile, that's a new one.

A moment later, Bri was hailing on the return, enemies inbound, the chance to protect Bri was something Rayne was intent on seizing. The Cloud lept to life, engines launching it toward Bri as she ducked out of the way and Rayne's cannons opened up, Redundant targeting, two by two.. Rayne instructed her gunners as each of the pursuing star fighters were suddenly targeted by and fired on by a heavy laser cannon and two heavy blaster cannons.

It wasn't long before they succumbed to Rayne's onslaught and burst into flames from the overwhelming firepower. Boom!! Rayne yelled in excitement as they began falling to the ground.

Bri gave a cheer over her comm as she watched the base be consumed in fire, and the two fighters behind her explode. "Nicely done Ray Ray!" Bri called out, as she did another circle around, the ruins of the base as a fuel canister ignited and sent another new explosion around the base. Brianna slowed her speed down, knowing it was going to be a pain in the rear to park this ship back on Cloud Nine once they finished here. "Looks like those upgrades are starting to show their worth, huh?" The young Mandalorian smirked, as she gave a celebratory twirl in her ship. This was certainly going better than the last mission the pair had flown.

Rayne was making a final sweep past the base, nearly everything was on fire, death had been Rayned upon them, that was for sure. She was just about to pull up when she saw a solitary star fighter, Crux class lifting itself out of the smoke, opening the cannons once again she put it back on the ground not long after it had just lifted off.

Thanks darling, couldn't of done it without you.. Rayne said with a smile her bride to be couldn't possibly see. Every penny.. Rayne replied in regards to the numerous upgrades she'd applied to The Cloud.

Believing the base had been pacified, Rayne pulled The Cloud up a bit, and began to circle the base for a few moments, just in case anything came screaming out of it looking for a fight.

Bri pulled up, knowing she still needed to dock with her ship before the pair could head out. "I'm not seeing anything on my end. What about you?" Brianna asked, as she began plotting a course to her ship. It would take a little bit to reach Cloud Nine, but she had Ray to cover her. She spotted another colum of smoke fire up from the ground, as she spotted Cloud Nine make another pass. It seemed like the pair were finished with their business here now. Now having the course plotted to the ship, she would dock with The Cloud, using the air locks that Ray had installed on her vessel. "Alright, transferring the coordinates over to you." Brianna announced, as she leaned back in her seat.

Bri had successfully docked with The Cloud, now The Cloud's shields were covering her, as the docked ships made a few more circles high above the old base that had been reduced to mostly just burning piles of rubble and debris. Kad dam, we're good.. Rayne said as she began to pull The Cloud up further from the base, preparing to exit the Myrkr atmosphere and move on.

The Empire had many arms, and among those arms the Imperial Intelligence was probably the most thorough and meticulous, nowhere near as hasty as the military and navy. So while everyone else had been fine with just leaving Myrkr alone, they had other plans. Scouting out and gathering all information regarding leftover resources on the planet before calling it a day. You needed to know what assets might be scattered around the Galaxy, never know what could come in handy.

Kaye had been sent as part of that recon unit, a small scouting vessel that sat somewhere within the shadow of a gas giant while she had flown in with a Vexatious-class starfighter to slip in, check out the status of the base, and slip out. The larger party would move in only when she gave them the go ahead.

She wasn't really expecting anything out of the ordinary, but when she slipped into the planet's atmosphere she was greeted by a sight that shattered those expectations. The compound was on fire, and a quick scan of the area revealed the source of the chaos, a single freighter with a fighter docked to it. She slipped down lower into atmosphere and fell into an approach vector from behind the freighter. Normally she would have hailed them, but if they had done that to the compound then she didn't want to give them any opportunity to retaliate. She would cripple them, then do the talking.

"Let's see how you deal with something that fires back!" She muttered to herself as a smile appeared on her lips.

Captain! One of Rayne's crewmen yelled out with a concerned tone, he was working the scanners, We have a boogy coming up from behind, it appears to be of Sith origin.. he said. This news was not at all a surprise, she was a little taken aback by how long it had taken them to finally show up however.

On the comms, That's the Sith for you, always terrified of a fair fight and trying to sneak up from behind.. Rayne spat, this Sith however had bit off more than it could chew, not that it could have known that quite yet. Engage rear cannon, Lightning! Rayne called out, the Heavy Laser Cannon mounted on the rear of the ship would give this approaching enemy something to regret as it opened fire, sending enormous bolts of deadly laser fire directly at the Sith ship.

Continuing her forward momentum, Rayne punched the thrusters as well, pulling The Cloud the rest of the way out of the atmosphere, they were already very near the top so it wouldn't take much to exit into zero G.

Captain, it's a Vexatious-class.. Rayne's crewmen said after reading the scanners q bit more. Rayne knew of the ship, she'd shot a couple down before, their armament was decent, and the ship boasted impressive speed, but Rayne's primary notice of the ship was its general lack of shielding. One direct hit would erase it's existance from history. Keep the pressure on, prepare all other Lightning, once it passes us, I want all other cannons on it.. Rayne ordered, the enemy was faster, but The Cloud was bigger, badder, and hit harder.

The incoming Heavy Laser Cannon fire, from the rear mounted, ventral mounted, and dorsal mounted heavy laser cannon turrets, would make it difficult for the small interceptor to maneuver, and even more difficult for it to gain a straight unimpeded shot on The Cloud without getting hit itself.

The Cloud's sensors detected the Sith craft at maximum range, accidentally causing a fatal series of cascading error messages as the ship suffered the mechanical equivalent of an identity crisis.

First, the ship identified an enemy via sensor data at a range that conflicted with what it knew of its own mechanical limitations. Noting this unusual occurance, the Clouds main computer began running various troubleshooting programs to detect the source of what must clearly be an erroneous reading. When it realized that the reading was not erroneous, it started querying the sensor suite software running in its background, and was alarmed to recieve two different responses- one of them in a crude Rendili patch language. The Rendili program had been trying desperately to report the information it had gathered from its advanced long range system, only to be stymied by the Main computers code language and reporting requirements. The enormous computing power and wasted energy it had been drawing had been masked by the upgraded power core, slipping the Computers notice. Now looking at the number of extraneous programs running and unexplained power drains in its logs, the ships droid brain went into full diagnostic mode to determine the sources of all this commotion. Nanoseconds later, diagnostics complete, the ship went into damage control mode. It had so many built up half understood error messages in strange code language from incompatible systems crudely bolted into place in its inner workings that the ships computer nearly crashed and almost had to reboot. In a cold and calculated panic, the Ship forced all unidentified programs and any stock systems associated with them to hard close and restart in safe-mode for further testing. Hopefully that would be enough to prevent a power core overload and explosion, which would have destroyed the ship and everyone on board. Satisfied with its skillful aversion of disaster, the computer settled into its task of sorting out the damage this newfound maze of incompatible systems may have caused. It was entirely oblivious to the more immediate problems the flickering lights and dead systems were about to cause for the gunships captain and crew.

Duarte had docked with Brianna Saxon and had been brought into the system before she and Rayne had begun their assault on the abandoned/evacuated base. Since he was in one of the faction provided MM8 T class star fighters http://www.thestarwarsrp.com/forum/index.php?members/fires-of-rebellion.8472/
He would maintain high cover. He had been sitting blacked out with only his passive long range sensor, and minimal life support so as to keep his electronic signature at a minimum. He had further taken up orbit right beside a large low orbit satellite to keep his ship camouflaged.

When his sensors picked up the Vexatious class star fighter arrive he had temporarily shut down his sensors and when it had passed him he had fired up all systems, at first he had thought to look for whatever ship has carried in the Sith ship but when it had lined up on his companions he changed his mind and dropped in behind the Sith star fighter.

Having faced them before he knew that the Sith ship had two forward facing cannons and it’s speed and maneuverability was no better than his own. His companions ships had shields to protect them. With his decided advantage he waited to see what the Sith ship would do. He would make sure he would not overrun the ship and give away his advantage. He then waited for the Sith’s Reaction when it became aware of him.

Brianna hadn't had much time to relax. She wasn't planning on leaving her ship, as Ray was just towing her closer to her freighter so they could jointly leave the system together. She kept her eyes on the sensors, knowing that they weren't exactly out of danger yet. That proved to be the case when she noticed the indication that a Sith fighter was on approach. This was doubly confirmed when she overheard Ray over the comms. It looked like the Sith hadn't had enough yet.
"Ray, I'm going to launch and engage the Sith. Just cover me." She said, as she began to undock and put power to the engines, as they had now cleared the atmosphere. Ray must have started early, because Bri hardly timed the breaching of the docking locks, as she felt some of the clamps on Ray's end give, damaging the airlock clamps and the clamps on Bri's ship. She wasn't looking forward to fixing that. Bringing her engines up to full and her shields booting back up, Brianna's ship fell behind The Cloud for a moment as the freighters speed outpaced what her engines were running at currently. Knowing she was in danger, she banked down and went into a barrel roll knowing the Sith fighter was going to be firing on her soon, and also to avoid being caught in the cross fire of The Cloud. Her shields were coming online, and that would help the oncoming fight to be had. Pulling up and seeing the Sith Interceptor closing towards the Cloud, she angled upwards towards it and fired off a burst from her light laser cannons, and a missile just for good measure. She was expecting to receive fire following this, and would prepare to corkscrew out of the way of the oncoming attacks.

Ilyra was flying a Vexatious-Class starfighter and she was ready to use it. She had heard talk and talk and rumors and stories and tall-tales about the Mandalorians and how they were the greatest fighters in the Galaxy. As a child she had been fascinated and as an teen she had grown to be rather tired of them. Some of the Mandalorians in the Galaxy were worthy of the stories... they were... they were almost beyond mortal men and women.

These ones were not.

Descending from higher altitudes, Ilyra readied her ship and herself for battle. She sank into the welcoming embrace of the Force as she started to come down in from behind and above the newest arrival ( @Wayrider ). Her com line was open on Sith channels.

"Assistance inbound." she declared, "Lay back and think of Mandalor shinies, cus today you're getting kriffed hard. No protection for you."

Already on an approach vector and at attack speeds, Kaye had opened herself to the Force and had already cut down distance to the docked ships when they noticed her and the Cloud started malfunctioning. So while the ship was sorting itself out, Kaye was flying in at combat speeds and firing her own lasers at the rear mounted turret, realizing that would be the biggest threat to her at the moment. As the heavy cannon, designed to be used against much larger and slower ships, was much slower to take aim [1], a fact that was further compounded by the sensors going off and forcing the gunners to have to aim by sight (not to factor in the few moments of confusion that would surely grip the crew with the ship suddenly malfunctioning), gave Kaye more than enough time to take the turret out before it fired at her. By then, having a lock on the ship, she would also follow up with a missile aimed at the now unshielded Cloud.

If by some miracle the freighter did manage to get off shots at Kaye, the slow cycling heavy cannons would be fairly easy for her to avoid, simply pulling up her nose to rise above the plane of attack of the shots and continue approaching the ship from a slightly higher approach, still from behind the ship, and continuing her attacks with the lasers and the missile. As Rayne had only ever given her gunners the order to fire the rear cannon, and Kaye never passed the ship, there would be no other laser fire for Kaye to deal with besides the ones from the rear cannon. Besides, with all the other guns having been used to make attacks at more forward facing targets, they would have taken even more time to completely cycle around to aim backwards, thereby giving Kaye more than enough time to dodge any attacks from the two ventral and dorsal mounted cannons.

With their sensors gone, the Cloud's crew would have to rely on any gunners present at the rear of the ship to warn the pilot of the coming attack and giving them directions on how to avoid them. Add in the simple confusion that would engulf the crew on losing so many ship functions, any such instructions would definitely have some delay while the crew recovered and the Cloud would simply not be able to react quickly enough to get out of the way in time, neither for the lasers, nor the missiles. Any defensive maneuvers would rely on a communication gap that would allow more than enough time for her laser bolts and then the missile to land, specially as she had taken the time to get a lock on them. While the lasers themselves would easily eat into the unshielded freighter, dealing a great deal of damage by themselves, the explosive power of the missile would surely take the ship out of commission altogether.

The Mandalorian fighter, that would only begin undocking once the Cloud was out of atmosphere, which would only happen after the Cloud had attempted to fire at Kaye, would probably be too late. If the explosion caught her as she was undocking or just after, and with her shields not yet up, she would be so close that either the explosion or the resulting debris and shrapnel would stand a good chance at take her out or doing decent damage to her.

As for Kaye, the moment her missile was away she would suddenly hit the reverse thrusters and kill the forward thrusters. The sudden and drastic reduction in her forward speed would have been a jarring impact that might have really hurt if not for the Force helping her stay focused. Having so far maintained an attack distance behind the freighter, she did not want to get caught up in the exploding ship's debris field. Also, if the mandalorian fighter had survived then she had another bogey to deal with. With the Cloud dealt with, and if she was sure that the ship was indeed out of commission, Kaye would turn her attention to the fighter, if it still survived.

The fighter had done a great deal after noticing Kaye, begin undocking, complete undocking, and then fall away from the ship, then fly away, perform a corkscrew, and then pull up. As her intent was to attack Kaye, who had never crossed her or the Cloud, she would have to literally turn around to attack her, which was not an instantaneous maneuver. All those actions would have given Kaye more than enough time to fire her lasers, at about the same time as the ship would begin undocking, and then her missile, and fall back. So her sudden braking maneuver would keep her well behind the fighter, thereby sending the fighter's attacks flying off aimlessly into open space. If they did somehow fire towards her, she would dip her nose and go into a dive and put all power into her forward thrusters, the sudden dip allowing her to avoid the lasers and fool the missile.

If the attacks flew off blindly as expected, Kaye would instead dip down to fall in behind the fighter, and begin peppering her with laser fire to eat away at her shields, while getting a good lock on it.

All this while, the arrival backup would ensure that she did not have to worry about the this Mandalorian who had been hiding like a coward in the shadows somewhere.

Immediately after the Sith fighter (@Kaye Antares) was detected at Maximum Range, The Cloud began to malfunction in several areas, it was clear this Sith had a Direct connection to the gods. The sublight propulsion systems, and the full armament of blaster and laser cannons were still online, their gunners now quickly performing their duties, the Sith had begun its assault from an incredible distance, something no trained fighter would do, and as the gunners of the dorsal, ventral, and the rear mounted Heavy Laser Cannons began to open fire, guided by their expertise, and their training intense alone, the ship was compartmentalized, and the gunners had no need to worry about the other systems of the ship, their sole focus being the offensive capabilities, and operating them. They did in fact miss the Sith ship, the distance between it and The Cloud being too great for any ships armament to fire effectively, some bolts coming in a little close, but the rest instead finding marks on targets that were much closer, the missiles, all three fired in a row, still from great distance, had been detonated early, once they entered range, by colliding with destructive Heavy Laser Cannon bolts.

Rayne was completely at home in her own ships and was capable more dangerous and risky space maneuvers by trusting her years and years of experience and sharp instincts(ie. level 2), as such since @Brianna Saxon had managed to safely disembark from The Cloud, the Sith ship still far behind but incoming. In a trained evasive maneuver, Rayne dipped The Cloud downwards toward the planet, but not breaking its atmosphere, in the opposite direction @Brianna Saxon had, and then quickly turned to the outside and traveled upwards, the sudden change in location causing the Medium Laser Cannon bolts fired from the Sith vessel to fly off harmlessly.

With Rayne now safely away from the Sith fighter, it having stopped it movement, Rayne's continued momentum, along side the thrusters continuing to move The Cloud, she jettisoned further and further from the planet, and the combat. Of the seventeen persons on board, each gunner filling their station and each crew station staffed, several others were attending to the malfunctioning systems of The Cloud, it would seem it would be in need of repairs to return the lost systems to functionality, but that was not something Rayne was concerned with at this moment, for now she focused her attention of escaping the area.

Rayne looked to the side of the helm, the entry passage to the escape pods present there, she gave the order that if things became too dire to board them, and she would join them, the gunners however, would be left behind in that situation, a unfavorable casualty, that Rayne was willing to make.

Had the fighter attacked at a closer range, then perhaps the earlier maneuver would have spelled disaster for Brianna and the Cloud. Given the time and distance but between the ships given the early warning provided by both the ship's sensors, there was plenty enough time to undock and move away from the ship, thought the malfunction of the ship's computer had inadvertently quickened this process, long before a missile impact would have threatened to take both of them out. If Brianna had been a rookie, then this might have spelled disaster right here and there, with an approaching fighter on an attack pattern towards the ship approaching from such a distance, a lesser experienced pilot might have panicked. Brianna's maneuver had made the ship a much smaller target to be hit from the distance of the Sith fighter, who seemed to be keeping a distance between the Cloud and itself; provably an over anxious pilot who got a little too excited. She simple had dipped down, boosted up her engines, and using the corkscrew maneuver to both minimize herself as a target, and correct her path into an attack on the Sith fighter. Had the Sith ship not come to a stop and ceased it's movement as Brianna had avoided it's attempts to fire at her from it's position; having come to an immediate stop after firing it's missiles indeed put it at a disadvantage. Now with the Sith ship being a sitting target and having the Mandalorian on a full approach towards the ship, not to mention her shields now active, Brianna's missiles would have hit home, blowing the unshielded ship to pieces making her laser attack completely unneeded; it was unlikely that the Sith fighter could move out of the way of the missile in time and even if it had, Brianna would only pursuit it and destroy it with her laser fire. She would divert her course away from the debris of the Sith fighter, and move to assist the Duarte who had taken now to make himself known. Brianna could see another vessel in pursuit of her Mandalorian ally. She opened a channel between both herself, and Rayne. Though strange enough, she couldn't raise Rayne on her side. "Duarte, watch it, you have a Sith on your tail." Brianna would move to assist Duarte now, locking her sights on the newly incoming Sith fighter as she would approach from underneath both the Mandalorian fighter and Sith fighter, and squeezed off her final missile and another burst from her lasers. She doubted she could hit the man with her lasers, but the missiles would be a pain to deal with. She only needed to break the Sith's pursuit of Duarte after all, then the two could deal with the remaining Sith fighter.
(Oocly, missiles on Wit are autohit, as they were ignored in the above post)
