  • Cogburn was born on the distant world of Contruum over 31 years ago to Delvin and Carissa Cogburn. His parent's relationship was fraught with disagreements, fighting, and conflicting world-views. Delvin was a grizzled and scarred veteran of the ceaseless conflicts in the outer rim worlds and he brought his pain, anger, and sadness back into the home. Delvin had been twisted into nihilism by his experiences in life and in nihilistic style named his son Sue, a woman's name. However, his influence on his young son's life would soon end. After Sue's third birthday, his father disappeared in the middle of the night, leaving a blaster pistol and an empty bottle of Tarisian Ale. Carissa struggled to provide for herself and her son. Contruum was not a particularly wealthy or populous world, it was one of the furthest outlying inhabited worlds in the known galaxy, and as such, she was limited in her employment opportunities. While his mother was beaten by the harsh realities of living in the galactic boondocks, Sue was beaten by older boys on the playground who came to make fun of his name. As a teenager, he had stopped caring that his father had abandoned the family but he HATED the man for giving him his name that had caused him so much misery as a child. It was one cruel joke from his father, and it had gotten a lot of laughs from a lot of folks. He'd feel shame and embarassment if he hard women giggling at his name and threw punches at men who hadn't yet learned not to laugh at Sue. In short on the backwater world of Contruum, he grew up tough and fighting. However, he always had a soft spot for his mother.

With hardened fists, quick eyes, and sharp wits, Sue became a successful bareknuckle brawler in his early 20s. Finally making something for himself and rising in popularity, "The boy named Sue" became a well known fighter around the towns and small cities of Contruum. He became a welcome distraction to the working communities. It was always his intention to buy land somewhere prettier and cleaner for his mother and he received his big break when he got invited an Outer Rim Bareknuckle free for all, a large Melee on the planet Ciutric. Coming in second place as a newcomer brought him an incredible amount of fame and attention, and for the first time in his life, he was celebrated. In one of the cantina where he was drinking and whoring his way through part of his earnings, he met an older man who had recognized Sue's last name. He told Sue that he had been a friend of his fathers and had seen him 3 years ago on Vandyne.

Sue made himself a vow that day, that in his travels he would visit every bar, brothel and gutter to find the miserable piece of shit that had given him his name. He continued touring the Outer Rim as a celebrated fighter until he came to an establishment called Gatlinburg on the planet Toprawa. Thirsty, he had walked into the bar but stopped short as he caught the sight of a longhaired, grizzled looking man that he recognized from his mother's holovids. His father was playing Sabaac and did not notice the approaching young man. Finally, the older man looked up and man and son locked eyes, mutual recognition passed between them before Sue said, "How do you do? My name is Sue and now you're gonna die" and he leapt across the card table, sending both Cogburns to the floor. The fought and tussled throughout the establishment, with Sue losing half of his ear to his father's vibro-knife. The fight took them outside, into the streets and Sue was surprised at his father's tenacity and fight at such an old age. A break in their melee caused Delvin Cogburn to reach for his holstered blaster, but his son beat him too it. They stood there for a moment before his father spat a curse and started smiling and laughing. "Son this world is rough, and if a man's going to make it, he's gotta be tough. I knew I wouldn't be there to help you along. So I gave you that name and I knew you'd have to get tough or die."

Sue responded by breaking his father's nose before the two cautiously reconciled their differences over cheap liquor. Sue didn't trust his father as far as he could throw him and could never forgive him for abandoning his mother, but Sue heard his father out. Delvin spoke of injustice and weakness and espoused his ideology that only the strong survive. His father spoke about an organization that he was apart of, called the Regulators, a sort of private police or detective force that operated in the Outer Rim. He said that he was impressed that his son could outdraw him and offered him a place in the organization. The two parted ways and it would be several more years until Sue would reach out to his father.

It was not until after he became Outer Rim champion and had taken on the nickname of Rooster, that he had need of his father. In the years since gaining fame as a fighter, Sue had been deligent about putting aside money to purchase his mother a residence on Dantooine. He had done so and she had lived there happily for years until raiders had burnt down the town, she had escaped but was again destitute. Enraged, Sue had no choice but to turn to his father for assistance. Delvin reluctantly accepted on the condition that Sue joined the regulators. A tentative agreement reached, Delvin tracked down the raiders, teaching his son the trade craft on their adventure that took them to an unregistered asteroid smuggler's hideout. After identifying the raiders in the Cantina, Delvin called for reinforcements. Sue watched dumbfounded when his father's comrades arrived, the regulators without missing a beat, cooly drew their blaster pistols and fired onto the unsuspecting raiders. Justice had been delivered in seconds and Sue had been impressed.

He is fairly tall at 6 foot 2 inches. He's more of a brawler than a finesse fighter and as such, he is meatier than an echani for example. He often sports a short beard. His most distinguishing feature is having half an ear, a souvenir from his father.

After having joined his father and the Regulators, he has been equipped with a set of field armor of equivalent protection to Vagabond Armor, a Regulator Duster and a Regulator badge.

He is armed with holstered IA-D2P-09 Dual Phase Pistol, a vibro-knife in his right boot, and an SA-17 Mercy Stun Gun strapped to his lower back. He also carries 3 stun grenades.

  • Sue Cogburn is tough and callous, a product of his past and current environment. Having been conditioned by his father, Sue exhibits hostility and distrust to those he meets and remains extremely sensitive to making fun of his name. He is not particularly smart or wise in the traditional sense, however he is streetwise, can read his opponents and has a gut feeling when something is about to go wrong. He is a survivor and a fighter, and its his tenacity and refusal to submit that has taken him this far. Those continue to be his best, most enduring traits. In terms of friends and family, he loves his mother, is ambivalent towards his father, and only has a few friends who are either teammates or respected opponents. Since joining the Regulators, the most significant shift in his worldview is his belief that evil should be punished and that only great strength can keep great evil at bay. This has made him perhaps even more uncompromising than before. He has a dark and dry sense of humor, often delivering a few biting quips at those around him. This could be construed as condescension, because Sue is extremely prideful and self confident.

Perhaps add some gear? Armor if he wears it, and the amount of ammo he carries for any weapons. You could say that the Regulator armor has equivalent protection to Vagabond Armor.

You may also want to adjust his weight. 135 is like, deathly emaciated for a dude that's 6'2". If he's supposed to be a boxer or some such, you're probably looking for more like the 175 range, at the minimum.
