DESCRIPTION
The grandly named Dread-class spacerake is a class of light starship which - beyond a single insignificant system deep in the Outer Rim, and the forces of an even more insignificant local warlord - is more or less unique in the Galaxy. Originally part of a series of approximately 25 craft commissioned from an outlaw tech group to equip the "navy" of Grand King-Admiral Elbasy Satozo, a pirate chief with delusions of grandeur, the Dread class combines custom wings and fuselage with strictly off-the-shelf components. Though slightly menacing in appearance, with its tapered, forward-and-upward-swept wings, hooked wingtips and pointed fuselage, it is fairly unimpressive in terms of performance, equivalent to a standard light patrol ship. The Grand King-Admiral, never a canny judge of spacecraft, happily paid the exorbitant price charged by the outlaw techs for their products and services.

Although essentially a custom design, the Dread class is relatively easy to fly and maintain as spacecraft go, using essentially stock components from several prominent manufacturers for all of its systems. The ship's fuselage is roughly 20 meters in length, with a classical tapered nose fitted with extensive transparisteel glazing around the cockpit and passenger seating. The ship has a crew of 2, although it can be flown by a single pilot with relative ease; 2 passengers can also be carried. Although very few examples of the Dread class have ever ventured beyond the system the Grand King-Admiral ruled, the type was designed with an eye toward future conquests, and so is fitted with amenities to facilitate long patrols, including bunks with privacy barriers for all aboard, a compact galley with an autochef, an enclosed refresher and a holographic entertainment system. These components are hardly top-of-the-line, but are appreciated by the warlord's flunkies. The ship also has 3 weeks worth of consumables and capacity for up to 10 tons of cargo. Performance is sufficient to overhaul most light freighters - 75 MGLT and decent maneuverability - but otherwise unimpressive. There is a class 2 hyperdrive fitted. Weapons consist of a pair of light laser cannons mounted in the wings, as well as a 6-shot concussion missile launcher.

The sole Dread-class spacerake to venture into the wider Galaxy belongs to Syvux Nharom, a former underling of the Grand King-Admiral who stole a ship and set off to make her own way, albeit not before stealing the coaxium hyperfuel from all of the warlord's other ships, grounding them at their home base and rendering them unable to pursue her. She later sold the "slightly used" coaxium at an outlaw trading post.

LEGALITY
Legal. Though armed, the Dread-class spacerake would be classified more or less as a light transport in many systems, requiring little in the way of special licensing.

INTENT
To create a personal ship for Syvux Nharom, my shortly upcoming smuggler character. Specifications are based on the Series IX patrol gig.
