DESCRIPTION
The T-6/5 X-Wing interceptor, known more popularly as the Light-X, is a starfighter manufactured by Incom-FreiTek as part of their venerable X-Wing line of starfighters. Actually a derivative of the company's popular but obsolete T-70, the T-6/5 is built on a shortened version of the older fighter's space-frame, although it shares only about 25% parts commonality with its predecessor.

Representing a departure from the trajectory of the X-Wing line in recent years, which has trended toward larger, more powerful and more technologically sophisticated models, the T-6/5 is something of a throwback, being designed and built as a low-cost, low-maintenance and relatively lightly armed machine. Though not intended to replace the flagship T-90 X-Wing in Incom-FreiTek's lineup, the T-6/5 is meant to service a different market segment than the powerful system navies and rich mercenaries who buy the T-90. The T-6/5 is intended primarily to help Incom-Freitek steal the fringe and developing market from Sienar-Jaemus, whose ultra-cheap TIE line has been the X-Wing's chief competitor - both on the battlefield and on the sales charts - for well over a century.

The Light-X is, as mentioned, a small machine, nearly a meter shorter than the T-70 on which it is based. Though stripped down to the bone in terms of amenities, the Light-X does retain at least a few of the standard X-Wing features. These include the line's trademark S-foils, which remain closed for normal flying but can be split for better thermal performance when the T-6/5 enters combat. The wings are tipped with the standard 4 laser cannons, although these are light cannons rather than the mediums found on most other models. The Light-X is also quite fast, with a stock top speed of 110 MGLT; the reduction in size and weight has also given the ship excellent maneuverability, making the T-6/5 easily the most nimble X-Wing yet.

Notable changes from the standard X-Wing include a change in the placement of the engines, placing them outboard midway along the wings rather than at the wing root as in previous models. The type's standard proton torpedo armament has also been replaced by cheaper but less powerful concussion missiles. Finally, and perhaps most obvious, is the deletion of the astromech socket behind the cockpit; the Light-X makes due with an integrated navicomputer, and is propelled across interstellar distances by a class 2 hyperdrive.

Though not a match for its older, more advanced siblings in most categories, the T-6/5 has found itself a market niche among fringe system defense forces, low-rent mercenaries and even enthusiasts unwilling to shell out for one of Incom-Freitek's current models. Though they still have a long way to go before they can put a dent in the vast numbers of TIE fighters Sienar has sold over the years, it continues to be a steady seller, and is well liked by those who fly it.

LEGALITY
Restricted. T-6/5 X-Wings are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a contemporary variant of a classic design more relevant to the situation in the Galaxy at large.
