Function: Targeting HUD
  • With the targeting computer either located in an attachment to the armor, or connecting via cable to the ships main computer, the visor of the specified helmet will produce a Targeting HUD. Said targeting HUD locks onto either the heat signature of enemy pilots or the electromagnetic charge of starship and station weapons, allowing the pilot to fire weapons with much greater accuracy than just using their naked eyes.

Advanced?: Yes

Hey there. Just some concerns of mine. Your description is pretty vague, what does a Targetting HUD do exactly? And what are it's limitations?

And secondly, if switching to "low-light and thermal" views on a visor is considered an advanced function (as it is on the pre-approved list), this would be too no doubt. And it may not even be in the spirit of the timeline if it could connect wirelessly to a ship's main computer, so that part may have to go. Seems way too advanced.

So this is just a helmet mounted display since the ship sensors are doing all the work?

So what edge would this give a user over some one with out it?

You've given a fluff description of how the device works, but I still have no idea what the practical effect is.

By practical effect, do you mean what it looks like? I'm confused.

No, I mean what does it do? Alright, you've got these signatures locked in... now what?

Real HMD are only a think for of bore sight heat seacking missiles. Aka things we don't use. All so just giving increased accuracy is vague as hell. All so since the ship doing the locking on i dont see how the helmet is helping. The Helmet is just displaying the HUD and control panel in the helmet

Yeah, I see what you're getting at now. It's too advanced for the TL though. If this sort of technology was available almost 7000 years in the past, why does nobody in the OT era have them? Seems like it would come in handy. It's also too hard to define the precise effects in PvP.

For the reasons above, I'm going to archive this.
