If there was one thing that the galaxy could universally agree on that defined the Jedi Knights, it would be the lightsaber. A small hilt that produces a blade of pure energy, intensified through a focusing crystal and held 'frozen' in place by an enveloping electromagnetic containment field. Despite its ancient design, the technology of the lightsaber was still considered to be state-of-the-art by the galaxy's standards; an elegant weapon of a civilized age, forever ahead of its time.

And Äeslan was encaptivated by them. His own starbalde, Godheart, was essentially a gold-bladed lightsaber under a different name, and due to his genetic defects, such his hyperkinesia and impulsive fight-or-flight instincts, lightsaber combat was one of the few aspects of Jedi discipline that didn't demand of his special concentration. There was nothing metaphysical about it, nothing overtly mystical. It was purely martial prowess formulated with philosophical guides and pace-based steps.

Standing by a holoarchive in one of the various rooms within the vast Jedi Archives within the Tythonian Jedi Temple, Äeslan fumbled through the various documented aspects of Jedi combat. Most Jedi looked at the classical seven forms, such as Form IV: Ataru, or Form II: Makashi. Deeply philosophical with their own brand of manauvers and tactics. But this day was different. Äeslan wasn't there to learn of the Forms, he was there to learn more of the three styles of the Jedi; Aurum, Caesitas, and Erythros.

After indicating the styles on the archive computer, Äeslan activated the archive on the styles. He knew some of Aurum, as it is taught to Jedi Initiates in application to Form I: Shii-Cho, but he only knew the fundamentals of it. After a few moments of beeping, a Jedi avatar figure appeared, and began speaking;

"Accessing_Archive_Record_0159; Lightsaber Etiquette - The Three Styles:"

"Following the resurrection of the reformed Jedi Order, the Jedi of the revived Order's first generation did not have access to the original forms of Jedi combat. As the threats against the New Jedi Order grew, the Jedi Knights required more advanced training and lightsaber prowess. To rectify this, it was commissioned that the first Jedi Battlemaster of the New Order formulate new kata-based styles of combat for the Jedi Order."

"Although the prototype styles came to useage for much of the foundational years, these forms were completed roughly fifty years after their initial creation. The Three Styles, were the new forms of combat, applicaple to any of the Seven Forms or unorthodox styles, and unlike the classical forms, were complete with their own manauvers, katas, and paces to fit individually prefered methods of combat. These three styles were called the Aurum Style, the Caesitas Style, and the Erythros Style."

"The Aurum Style was the first, and was the intermediate ground between the latter two styles. Aurum focused on balancing power with speed, maintaining a perfect equilibrium between the two. As the foundation of all three, Aurum was the easiest of the styles to individualize. Maintaining simple movements without sacrificing finesse, Aurum was a neutral style, equally effective in defensive situations as offensive. But what defined Aurum was its adapatable nature. Aurum could be modified greatly to each user's individual manner of combat and was easy to incorporate in existing forms. In methodology, Aurum's respectably balanced combative prowess and comparatively simplistic and adaptable designs bear resemblances to the Forms I and VI; Shii-Cho and Niman."

"The second was the Caesitas Style, consisted of short, rapid burst-like movement, and highly kinetic chained-strikes. Highly aggressive, Caesitas' opening stance is tight and close, and is extremely effective at defensive stances, particularly against blaster wielding foes and highly acrobatic movements. Consisting of short and quick motions with the blade that could be chained and combined almost indefinitely, this style allowed for multiple attacks at an extremely fast pace.Dependent on speed and fluid movements, Caesitas has a short range, as the lightsaber must always be kept close to the body, and uses many one-handed strikes. Because of this, Caesitas has the weakest raw offensive power in dueling other lightsaber wielders, and its defenses can be shattered by the more powerful strikes. The shorter range of Caesitas can also put an inexperienced wielder at a significant disadvantage against another lightsaber wielder. In methodology, Caesitas' rapid movements, acrobatics, and strong defensive stances against blasters bear resemblances to the Forms III, IV, and one aspect of V; Soresu, Ataru, and Shien."

"Erythros was the final and most difficult of the Three Styles, in addition to being the strongest of the styles; focusing on unrivaled raw power and distinction to batter through an opponent's defenses, with inexperienced wielders willing to sacrifice speed for unmatched strength. Users of the Erythros Style would typically utilize an aggressive and powerful stance, the lightsaber being held high and back, ready to deliver powerful swings with the blade. In addition, Erythros sacraficed strong defense as well, making the style almost completely offensive."

"Erythros maintains a focus on powerful, often two-handed, kinetic movements, striking relentlessly and with a wide range. Highly damaging build-up swings and destructive blows characterizes the style, though the wide, sweeping movements make the style ineffective against blaster wielding opponents. While masters of the style can compensate, many wielders are often at a disadvantage against faster duelists in melee combat. Defensive stances were very limited, as the opening stance for Erythros was with the blade held high for aggressive offensive combat. In methodology, with its focus on raw power, kinetic strength, precision, and sweeping range, Erythros bears resemblances to Forms VII, one aspect of V, and II; Juyo, Djem So and Makashi."

"Because of their diversity and application to the Seven Forms, most Jedi train to utilize all three styles during their Knighthood status, with more experienced Knights and Jedi Masters typically having mastered all three."

Äeslan had been sitting in a chair he'd pulled away from a nearby table and contemplated on what he heard, keeping stored in his memory. In his mind, that skill was his only real redeeming quality. Now eager and able, Äeslan pulled his lightsaber out, and began a private session of practicing. He remembered the Aurum Style, balanced movements, equal for offense and defense. Äeslan began making sweeping strikes with his lightsaber, attempting to characterize Aurum. He knew he probably was doing it wrong, but he didn't care. It'd all eventualyl come with time.
