DESCRIPTION​

The Thanium Star-Glaive is a pattern of warship which was first developed in the Tion Cluster by starshipwrights of the planet Thanium. Commissioned for the empire of Xim the Despot, they were the heavy-hitters of the pirate-king's navy. Meant to follow up attacks by Cronese Battlebirds and other fast ships, Star-Glaives would destroy their opponents with withering torpedo attacks and broadsides from their banks of heavy beam-tube artillery. They also could carry up to a full squadron of starfighters, which were typically used to perform long-range attacks and screen against enemy fighters.

Thanium Star-Glaives pioneered a unique armor scheme which would be copied by a number of other contemporary shipbuilders. Predating modern energy shields, Star-Glaives were fitted with massive kiirium armor panels, which could deflect the primitive energy weapons of the day with relative ease. These panels were spaced away from the main hull of the ship, and were fitted to sliding mounts, allowing a Star-Glaive to reconfigure its armor coverage on the fly in response to changing battlefield conditions. This scheme proved remarkably effective would be a staple of Tionese warship construction even long after the collapse of Xim's empire.

In the present day, only a handful of complete Thanium Star-Glaives are still in existence, primarily in museums and private collections; none are known to still be in active military service. Incomplete wrecks can also be found in parts of the Outer Rim, primarily in and around the Tion Cluster and the frontiers of Hutt Space.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Thanium Star-Glaives are classified as capital ships under Galactic law. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.
