DESCRIPTION
MandalMotors is a Mandalorian owned and operated vehicle manufacturer which came into existence during the Hundred-Year Darkness, and rose to prominence during the Sith campaign to exterminate the Jedi and their allies. In recent years, however, the company has fallen on hard times, facing increasingly stiff competition from Sith-backed manufacturers such as the state-owned Imperial Fleet Works. This is largely due to Imperial laws which have forbidden MandalMotors from building certain types of vessel, and the broader repression of Mandalorian culture, which has robbed many of its products of their identity.

Case in point is the Canopy-class corvette. Originally dubbed the Nynir class, a word in the Mandalorian language roughly translating to "Strike" or "Hit," the more innocuous name Canopy was adopted to appease Imperial authorities, who had already threatened to revoke the company's starfighter production license if the name of one of MandalMotors' previous designs, the Marev-class starfighter, was not changed. Nevertheless, the design was built, and like many MandalMotors designs proved to be a well-made and capable machine.

The Nynir is meant primarily to go up against small to intermediate sized craft, and is armed accordingly. 10 fast-firing dual autoblaster turrets - 5 on each side - are used to engage smaller, more maneuverable targets such as starfighters, while its 5 medium laser turrets - located 2 ventral, 3 dorsal - are used to engage slower-moving targets such as light freighters and starbombers. Nynir-class ships are also equipped with a small hangar, which can accommodate a single shuttle and a pair of snubfighters.

Nynir-class corvettes are often used for long-range independent patrols, often of poorly settled backwater regions with limited infrastructure. Accordingly, such vessels are equipped with long-range sensor and comm systems, allowing them to "see" further and remain in contact with often distant allies. The sending and receiving apparatuses for these systems are located in a prominent disc-shaped structure mounted dorsally on the ship's hull.

Nynir-class vessels are not really intended to go up against other capital ships, but are excellent commerce raiders and anti-piracy vessels, and are a good support class for vessels which do not possess their own anti-starfighter defenses. These vessels are also often used as a means of swiftly reinforcing allies.

The Canopy/Nynir is most common in Mandalorian space, and MandalMotors has been slow to find export customers, being again hampered in this by Imperial restrictions. Nevertheless, the type is well liked by Mandalorian crews, who tend to refer to it by its original name rather than its official designation.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Nynir-class are considered capital warships, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.

INTENT
To give an account of the modifications being made to Dio's second corvette for PvP and other mission purposes.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Nynir-class corvettes are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot to do so.
