Ask Yavin IV The Beast of Yavin IV: Chapter 4

[Hailee Lightwood]

Hailee had managed to move away far enough to avoid the beast's next attack, however her own master was not fortunate enough. "Pêro, NO!" she desperately cried out, her own pain blurring her perception though and so she wasn't even sure whether the beast's tight hug was making her hallucinating now.

Despite questioning the terrible thing she had just seemingly witnessed, she gasped in shock as Edaara (@Reylo4evr) was hurled towards her, and she only managed to evade the other Jedi's body in the very last second by rolling out of the way.

She breathlessly came to a halt, her frightened gaze immediately landing on the dreadful, mighty mamien that was about to charge into the direction of the other Jedi (@AdventCore). "No...no you won't!" she furiously pressed forward, her lungs still compressed and her rib cage hurting, but with her very last strength she pushed herself forwards to diagonally cross the beast's past, however not with her body, but she was literally throwing her lightsaber as she was not reaching the behemoth in time.

The blonde padawan was filled with rage and all sorts of emotions and due to her pain she was probably not even thinking straight anymore, but she was convinced that her throw would strike the beast at least somewhere - best case scenario being that it would get stuck in the flesh to distract the ferocious creature - but she would at least graze it.

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara's vision blacked out for a split second as the mamien grabbed her off its neck and flung her across the clearing. She landed hard on the ground, sliding on her already bruised side and breaking another rib. Pain electrified her and she clenched her teeth so hard she almost cracked one. She barely had enough strength to lift an arm to call her saber back into her hand, but she thought of Davi back at the temple, hopefully safe now, and pushed herself onto her knees.

Using the last of her strength, she called on the Force to support her aim and guide her saber as she flung it directly between the mamien's eyes. Even though it was a guarenteed the beast would move before her saber could hit it in the spot she had aimed, the Force would move her saber in the air with the mamien so it would plunge straight between the mamien's eyes, hopefully breaking the skull and puncturing the brain.

With that, Edaara slumped back to the ground, her ears still ringing as she saw everything from a horizontal perspective. She did not black out; she would not let herself rest until the beast was dead.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

Kyosuke's plasma bow was collapsed and snapped to the back of his utility belt when the mamien's bone-rattling roar nearly knocked him off his feet. He grunted, clenched his teeth, and snapped his hands to the sides of his head to protect his ears. He pushed through it a couple seconds later when he heard a pair of sabers whirling in a duet from the opposite flanks of the beast, which he suddenly realized was charging right at him.

The Shadow closed his eyes. Felt through the Force. The intended trajectories of his comrades' sabers clear in his mind.

He stepped back. Just away enough to shift himself out of where he expected the behemoth's bite would end up if Hailee's thrown saber struck the injury on its leg like he expected. While he moved back he drew in the Force around him, weaving it around the muscles in his legs and right arm. A calm and focused breath as he felt the presence of the beast draw near.

Kyo's right palm pulled back, and just as he anticipated Edaara's saber would strike the beast between the eyes he readied himself to bolt up and forward enough to slam his open palm into the back of her embedded saber. The enhanced strength behind his open palm strike to the back of Edaara's lightsaber would then quickly be followed up by sending a final burst of the ethereal essence into the hilt, intending to assist the emerald Knight and blast her saber through the last bit of the beast's skull, if there was even any of it left to resist.

Whether or not the attack was a success, Kyo would have drained his stamina too far in the process, leaving him vulnerable as he'd stagger back onto his feet and try to reach for his lightsaber -- just in case the beast somehow survived.

[The Storyteller]

The attack from @Kyosuke Yamato all hinged on the thrown sabers from the other Jedi hitting their mark, and to his dismay, one of them would not hit quite as he had expected.

The Padawan @Hailee Lightwood's saber struck the beast's leg in a meatier chunk of the thigh, not at the back of the knee which would have connected with another earlier attack and could've crippled the leg. The mamien cried out loud and limped, then got a few more steps further before crashing down a little later than what the Shadow would've needed to succeed his full attack.

The saber from Knight @Edaara Tonor buried deep enough in the beast's face that it would quickly begin to burn its way through the rest of the surrounding material. The skull began to turn red hot and melt at the tip of the lightsaber blade. The behemoth began to bellow from the combination of attacks, only to have @Kyosuke Yamato crash into its face.

The palm of the Shadow connected with the base of Edaara's saber pommel, but the beast's momentum had not come to a stop like he expected, and the rest of his body slammed hard against the mamien's face. The emerald Knight's lightsaber shot forward from the impact, its blade ripping through the last bit of skull without the blast from the Shadow even being needed.

Instead, @Kyosuke Yamato would be thrown back far from the intense charge and skull bash, his back finding one of the big purple trees with a bone-shaking crunch. @Edaara Tonor's lightsaber meanwhile ripped through the behemoth beast's brain, utterly destroying everything in it's path on its way to the core before it finally disengaged.

The Beast of Yavin IV reared back, emitted an extremely loud high-pitched scream as it grabbed the sides of it's head, and a moment later dropped dead.

An eerie silence fell upon the clearing, once it's cry finally stopped echoing throughout the swampy forest.

[Hailee Lightwood]

After Hailee had desperately thrown her lightsaber, she had immediately collapsed onto the ground, the pain just taking over control of her body. Her gaze still, anxiously flicked towards the charging beast, praying that it would die before it could hurt anyone else.

Her lightsaber landed but not in the very best spot, so it was definitely a good thing that both, Knight Tonor and Knight Yamato had added their attacks to that chaos. With combined forces the lightsaber in the beast's head finally fulfilled its purpose and the beast crashed down with a thud, but that was only after its earpiercing, last cry had echoed through the vast thicket of the forest.

Hailee rolled on her back, breathing heavy for a moment while her heart still pounded in her chest. She had witnessed that Knight Yamato (@AdventCore) had been sent flying as well and the way he landed looked absolutely painful, but her own master had gone down way before and his lifeless body was closer to her anyway.

She rolled back onto her belly and forced herself onto her knees, the adrenaline that kept pumping through her veins let her forgot about her broken ribs for a moment as she crawled forward. "Are...are you guys...okay?" she raised her voice as best as she could, addressing both other knights (@Reylo4evr + @AdventCore) as she approached her knocked out master.

It was obvious that he was badly hurt and she wouldn't be able to heal him right here, especially because she was way too drained anyway. Perhaps she could help some of the others, but they somehow had to make it back to the temple after all.

 

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara gave a sigh of relief and it seemed some of the pain exited her body and was replaced by relief. Her saber throw had hit on point, and Kyo sent it home. She took multiple shallow but long breaths, forcing herself to acknowledge the pain and to learn from it. She could learn from her mistake and next time, would not end up so badly wounded. If one were to reach out for Edaara's presence in the Force, all they would feel was peace.

"I will be," Edaara replied to Hailee's question. She was thinking what they all were probably thinking- how would they get back to the temple? They had to rest for a while, before any of them would come even close to Healing the others. She figured one of them had a ship nearby they could go back to for resources.

"We can't stay out here in the open for long," she said, still laying on her back and staring up at the sky through the leaves.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

A loud "GUH!!" came from Kyosuke when his body collided with the much larger beast's head. His fully extended right arm collapsed back and nearly snapped from the impact. The wind was knocked out of him in the same moment, leaving him breathless as he was thrown across the clearing and into the treeline.

The Shadow barely had a chance to tense his muscles before he slammed into one of the massive Massassi trees. The back left side of his body hit the tree hard and caused his body to be thrown down to the base of it. A choked grunt escaped his breath from the second collision in a row.

Kyo barely landed on his forearms and shins. One short gasp. A second. He couldn't catch his breath yet. Nor did he have the strength to push himself to his feet, though he tried. His body wobbled, lifted a few inches, then faltered and collapsed back to his previous position.

For now he was unable to respond to the pair of Jedi still back in the clearing. All he could do was work his right hand over to the silver bracer on his left wrist, and push one of its small discreet buttons. A signal would then be sent to Shini, commanding the AI to pilot the Shinigami from the temple to his current location.

[Hailee Lightwood]

Still on her knees, Hailee softly pressed a hand on her master's chest while the first tears started to run down. She was worried about him, extremely worried even, but she also knew that the four of them were all extremely beaten up.

"We need to get back...that's true" she replied, frantically looking around. "But...how?" she then added desperately as she realized how bad this situation was. What if something else lurked in the thicket! There was no way they would be able to defeat themselves.

She reached out and summoned her lightsaber, but it took quite some time for it to leave the mamien's thick flesh and to even have it move at all since she was completely drained. She still wanted her lightsaber close in case anything happened. She noticed that the raven haired knight fumbled with his barber and she was hoping he had sent a distress call, because for now, neither of them was still in the position to make it back by themselves.

"Davi?" she called into the forest, hoping that the reason why they had started this mission was still okay,

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara blinked quickly, her eyelids heavy if she shut them for too long. She knew if she closed them she would pass out and she could not take that risk. When Hailee called out for Davi, she felt the youngling's presence in a distant tree. Edaara did not say anything; she was too weak to speak or do anything besides breathe and keep herself conscious.

She could not see the others from her position on the ground but she could feel their lack of strength through the Force and knew they were all significantly weakened. It would not be good if some other creature of the Yavin IV jungle happened upon them in this clearing; it was unlikely they would stand a chance against it.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

It didn't take long for Kyosuke to catch a bit of breath and stammer up to his feet. He shook his head and leaned against the tree he'd been thrown into. His dizzy senses finally cleared several seconds later. "-fine-" He wheezed in response to Hailee's original question, then continued catching his breath. "I'm fine..."

"My ship..." He took a big breath, held it for a second, then released. "...is on the way." He staggered over to the front of the slain beast, then collapsed to his knees in front of the hole between its eyes. His head hung as he closed his dark blues and extended his palm to the hole. A few moments later he finally recentered his breathing, and gradually began to Pull Knight Tonor's lightsaber hilt out of the mamien's skull.

"If you would've stuck to the plan, Padawan, and not jumped on your emotions-" The Shadow slightly turned his head to Padawan Lightwood, gazing at her from the corner of his eye. "Then Davi would probably already be safe back at the temple by now, your master would've been able to focus better, and he might still be standing." His tone was calm while he casually scolded her. His fingers clutched down on Edaara's lightsaber handle, and he hesitated for a moment as he realized it was still covered in brain.

"Nonetheless-" Kyosuke paused and faced Edaara as he gradually began floating the emerald Knight's lightsaber back to her. "-you still dealt a critical blow to it right at the start. So..." He shrugged, not really sure how to treat the other Jedi. "Good job, I guess." Then he'd give a nod at Edaara just as his lightsaber crossed the several meters length of the beast between them.

"You too. Nice throw. Both of you." He then noticed how wounded they'd been in the fight, and let out a heavy sigh. "We can toss Pêro in my bacta pod on the Shinigami. Untill then, I've probably got just enough left in me to mend a broken bone or two, though it won't be perfect. Which one of you needs it more?" Healing was no easy task for Kyosuke. He knew the drawbacks, but he was still willing to share that pain unto himself to help them recover.

[Hailee Lightwood]

Her heavy breathing slowly calmed down while she still sat right next to Pêro, her worried gaze examining his body. She closed her eyes another time while she softly placed her hands on his chest, but as she leaned forward the immense, stinging pain that radiated from her ribcage stopped her motion.

She let out a pained hiss as she reopened her eyes and looked over to the dark haired knight. "Ship...sounds awesome" she replied, obviously in agony, but as he removed the lightsaber he suddenly started scolding her.

From one second to the next, Hailee shot him a warning glare. "Excuse me?! Davi was save with the woolamanders and without me, I'm not sure whether you would have all survived! No offense, but we have needed each and every blade and each and every blow" her voice reflected the frustration that resulted from his inappropriate comment. She hadn't disobeyed this time...not really.

She had still chosen to fight, because they had needed help as this beast had been far more ferocious than expected. "I'm sorry...I know how you meant that. I shouldn't talk back like that" she immediately apologized as the realization hit her, the rage slowly fading away.

She took his compliment with a faint smile before she pushed herself back to her feet, now holding her ribs in agony. "Take it, Knight Tonor. I'll survive" she answered, trying to overplay her actual pain. She had had broken ribs before and so this wasn't a huge deal, but all the pain her injuries caused her was making it hard for her to even walk.

She couldn't help but to let her gaze wander across the battle stricken scenes around them..the mamien's attacks clearly marked the landscape in this part of the forest and they all looked terrible. The good thing was though, however, that the boys voice echoed through the forest, telling them that he was fine. It sounded like he was getting closer and Hailee just hoped that the ship would be here fast to take them home.

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara may have been barely conscious but she registered Kyo lightly scolding Hailee. The padawan, still fired up from the fight, shot back a reply. Edaara was about to say something when Hailee apologized. Edaara smiled weakly; while they had each contributed and made mistakes, they had to learn from them to move forward.

She breathed a sigh of relief when Hailee gave Edaara first priority to be healed and immediately regretted it when stabbing pain shot up her torso. She wouldn't be surprised if she had broken all of her ribs or even part of her back. "Thank you," she breathed, her voice barely a whisper.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

"Davi was only safe because I made the split second decision to adjust the plan and do your job instead." The Shadow calmly chimed back to Padawan Lightwood while making his way to Knight Tonor, hoping he wouldn't trigger her any further than he might've already done.

"Those woolamanders I left him with him won't help him against most other predators out there though... Thankfully I didn't take him too far before coming back." Kyosuke tapped a button on his silver bracelet, then held it close to his chin as he folded his shins under himself to kneel before Edaara.

"Grem." Kyosuke spoke over the comlink to his little scout droid companion. A relieved set of beeps chirped back. "Yeah, we're okay. Go ahead and bring Davi to us."

After Gremlin gave an affirmative beep back Kyosuke would then hover his hands over Edaara's ribs where the damage seemed to be affecting her most, or to wherever she pointed out.

"Alright Edaara, hold tight... I'm not the best at this." Then he'd close his eyes, steady his breaths, and begin channeling the Living Force into the emerald Knight's most damaged rib, very slowly attempting to bind the bone back together. It would still take him a bit longer before the painfully slow process would be about half way done.

[Hailee Lightwood]

While Hailee knew Pêro was unconscious, he seemed rather stable too and so she made her way over to the two other knights. She did her best to keep the panic at bay, but she was super worried about her master. She tried swallowing all those thoughts though and knelt down next to Knight Tonor, throwing Knight Yamato an angry glare.

"You don't give me orders. Pêro does, and it's not my fault he's hurt!" she clarified, angrily hissing. "Look at you! At us all! We would have been dead!". Well..this was how her frustration showed.

She knew losing her temper was bad, but it was now hard to contain. She let out a deep sigh, before her gaze softened. "Kriff...I'm sorry. I really am. I just want to get back to the temple". Yeah, and also, she needed to learn how to follow her damn orders, regardless of who gave them to her.

Tears of despair started running down her cheeks while Pêro's words echoed through her mind. She needed to focus on the light if she wanted to help. She closed her eyes and put her hands on Edaara's chest while she called on the Force to help Knight Yamato heal the other Knight. Once the ship arrived, she would focus on helping her master but for nowmit was best if Edaare could get back to her feet.

[Edaara Tonor]

Noises had faded in and out focus so Edaara could not understand what Kyo and Hailee were saying to each other. She could however, feel a soothing warmth in her torso, where the pain was the greatest. After a minute, an hour, an eternity, she could breathe normally again without stabbing pains blinding her.

Edaara sat up, experiencing a brief headrush before her vision cleared and she saw Kyo and Hailee on either side of her. "Thank you," she said sincerely. She owed her life to the two Jedi. She was still sore and bruised but she discovered she could walk (with a bit of a limp) as she stood up to await Kyo's ship.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

"You're welcome." Kyosuke slowly opened his bright blues once he'd finished mending Edaara with Hailee's assistance. "And thanks to you too. This is always much worse when I have to do it alone." He turned his head to the Padawan and had just enough time to give her a soft nod before the after effect of his limited healing ability hit him.

"-hnng-!" The pain of Knight Tonor's broken rib sparked in his mind. He restrained a grunt as best he could, clenching his teeth and hanging his head as he pressed against the same spot on himself where she'd been injured. The fingers from his other hand dug into the swampy grass next to his knees. After a few moments of tensing his muscles and lightly shaking he finally stopped.

"Whew..." A heavy sigh of relief escaped him. Thankfully with Hailee's help he didn't have a full reflection of the pain all at once, like usual. "Look, I..." Kyo gradually began while turning his azure gaze back to Hailee. "I haven't actually spent much time with other Jedi in the last few cycles. So, forgive me if I come across too much like my master used t-" Then the sloshy sound of the dank ground caused the Shadow to go quiet and shoot a glance in the direction of the approaching steps from the treeline.

"You killed her?!" Davï cried out as he came running into the clearing toward the fallen beast. Gremlin poked his head out from behind the little Nautolan's, cooing worriedly upon seeing the wounded group of Jedi. A moment later the youngling's body slapped up against the mamien's hairy back, his tiny arms squeezing the much larger beast like he was hugging a wall. "I was finally beginning to understand what happened to her too..."

Kyosuke watched with a perplexed expression. He had not been expecting anything more than their target to be a rampaging beast. Nothing more than a malicious monster that needed to be put down for Davï's safety, and for any other Jedi that wandered the swamps of Yavin IV.

The Shadow gradually stood, ignoring the familiar sound of his rapidly approaching ship as he raised a brow at the ladies next to him, subtly giving them a sign that he had no idea what the youngling was taking about.

[Hailee Lightwood]

After they had healed Edaara, her hands dug into the forest floor in order to stabilize herself. She exhaled sharply, the pain shooting through her broken ribs, but she still tried her best to ignore them. It was still the adrenaline that kept her going and she knew it wouldn't last much longer, but they had to get out of here first.

"You're...welcome" she replied, flashing Edaara a forced, brief smile before she looked back at Knight Yamato. "It's...okay. We're all on edge" she had started to say quietly, her voice betraying her by displaying a definite amount of agony.

This was all when Davï came crashing in, obviously furious, yet it took some moments until Hailee could process what the youngling was even referring to. Hailee swallowed hard, trying not to look too agonized, but she held her ribcage on the right side while she forced herself back to her feet.

"Davï...we are sorry. We all know the Jedi usually protect life...but we had no choice. She...attacked us. Viciously even. We barely made it out alive. We couldn't stop her". It was obvious that it pained the padawan to tell him the ugly truth, but she wouldn't lie to him. Also, she really wanted to explain why they had to do it, regardless whether he would understand that or not.

It was about then when the called ship finally announced its arrival by the sounds of the drive, before the leaves began to rustle. Hailee slowly moved over to her unconscious master, still extremely worried about his current state. They had to leave this forest...now. With the adrenaline slowly fading, the pain was hitting her hard and she was close to fainting even herself.

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara was not selfish. So far from it, in fact, that seeing Kyo and Hailee take her pain made her heart twist and she wanted to relieve them of it. She didn't, however, because, however painful it might be to see, the pain was a little more evenly distributed, and they would all be better healed and taken care of on Kyo's ship.

At that moment, she heard the ship draw nearer and could not help a sigh of relief as it entered the clearing, hovering above the ground, the leaves stirring around the five Jedi.

Edaara turned to Davi and walked over to him, kneeling by his side. He looked up at her with tears forming in his large eyes, his small body still leaning on the mamien's dead body. Edaara placed a hand on his shoulder. "Do you want to send her off proper?" she asked softly. Hailee had already told him the truth, which he needed to know, but he was still young and believed the best in the world, and it would do no one good for him to lose that view on his journey through the Force.

Davi nodded and Edaara moved her hand down to his hand, and placed his smaller hand on the mamien's thick hide. "Think happy thoughts," she said, and Davi squeezed his eyes shut. Edaara felt a pulse of warmth from his hand and she added her own. His eyes opened as he felt it too and he smiled tentatively. The warmth they were sending was only enough to give the mamien's soul peace in the next life.

Davi let his hand fall, and he looked happier as Edaara straightened up with mild difficulty.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

Knight Yamato stood quietly by while his starship, the Shinigami, crested it's long sleek bow over the treeline. Shini, the Shinigami's artificial intelligence, slowly maneuvered the ship into the clearing while hovering several hundred meters above it. Once in position it stopped, hovering above the group for a few moments before the Shinigami's pair of wings gradually began to shift and fold upward. Then after giving the wings a few seconds to begin adjusting vertically, the starship slowly started to land.

Kyosuke meanwhile made his way over to Pêro, briefly glancing at Hailee with a solemn gaze from the corner of his bright blues as he passed her. A few steps later he turned his attention back to the Padawan's fallen master, and extended his hand to the tree atop the Knight.

"Sorry about your master. I would've done more to help, but I had to get Davi to safety or he might've been the one under this tree." Kyosuke softly spoke to Padawan Lightwood as he focused his concentration to the collapsed tree on Pêro, and gradually began to lift the massive thing through the Force. A few moments later he managed to gradually move it until it was no longer over the Knight, then dropped it, causing it to crash to the ground with a loud thud and multiple snaps.

Then the Shadow made his way over to Pêro and knelt down. He reached his palm down above the man, and could still feel the his life essence humming through the Living Force. Without waiting any longer, Kyosuke then grabbed Pêro's wrist, and carefully began to pull the man's arm over his back and shoulders to help support the Knight's body and weight as he gradually stood and lifted the man with him, using his free hand to wrap it around Pêro's torso and get a better grip on him.

"Let's get him to my bacta pod. I've got a couple more med-stims there too that should help you all out a little." With that, Knight Yamato then began dragging Pêro with him as he made his way over to where the Shinigami was extending it's landing gear in time to set down on the swampy grass not too far from the slain beast. The ship's cargo ramp opened as well, revealing a sporty black Avian airspeeder parked in the middle of the dim lit bay, and a small hall behind that with an escape pod on either side, which then led into the other rear section of the cargo bay where Kyosuke kept his crafting benches and supplies. Beyond that was another short narrow hall that led to the engineering bay.

Gremlin beeped happily once he noticed that the group had succeeded in their mission and were going to board the Shinigami, but for now he remained perched on the back of the young nautolan's shoulders, who was staying by Edaara's side. Once Kyo was passed the hall and into the aft section of the cargo bay he then pulled Pêro over to the cargo lift by the stairs to the upper deck.

The Shadow would then wait a couple moments to let any others onto the lift who didn't want to take the stairs up to the lounge before he slapped a button on the control panel to activate the lift so that all who were on it could be lifted up to the next deck, where the kitchen and lounge were across from it, with the large couch and circular holotable tucked in the corner by the hall to the small bridge. This deck was also barely lit by a soft blue glow, the usual level of lightning that the Shadow preferred.

"Shini, prep the bacta pod." Kyosuke stated flatly while beginning to make his way to the aft hall out of the lounge, where the private quarters, refresher, brig, and the makeshift medical bay were all located. At the very end of the hall was the door to the meditation chamber, where Knight Yamato turned to his left just before reaching it. The door to the medbay hissed open, and the pair of stepped inside.

"Affirmative, Key - Oh, preparing the bacta pod." The youthful pleasant voice of the ship's AI chimed in over the speakers embedded throughout the ship, simultaneously speaking to everyone aboard. Kyosuke gently set Pêro down on a bench next to the horizontally aligned bacta pod, which was beginning to power up. Then Kyosuke gradually began doffing the man's extra layers of clothing, making sure he was careful enough not to further injure the unconscious Knight in the process of half-undressing him.

[Hailee Lightwood]

With the mamien dead and utterly motionless, there had been an eerie, almost seemingly impenetrable veil of silence that quietly cloaked the environment. The peacefulness was disrupted by the sounds of the approaching ship and obviously by the sight of her unconscious master.

She fought back any upcoming emotions and patiently waited for the ship to arrive, before she threw knight Yamato a thankful smile. "We all tried our best...he'll be okay though. He's strong, I know that". She wasn't sure whether she was telling him that, or simply encouraging herself, but it did help a bit.

She was grateful for his help that followed and together, they carefully moved him over to the ship. It pained her to see him that way, but she knew he would only find actual help in the ship as she was way too drained herself, just like the other two knights. Together, they moved up and into the ship, where knight Yamato was beginning to prep his stuff.

Hailee stood there and watched for a moment, not at all knowing where to find what and so she decided that it was better to just wait a moment. She observed Davï for a while, but he still seemed frightened and his emotions all stirred up, so she refrained from asking another question. Instead, she focused on the dark haired knight who undressed Pêro for the pod, but when Hailee considered helping her hands began to shake.

She forced herself to breathe deeply before she sank down to the floor, her own body now finally collapsing from all the strain. She couldn't quite believe it, but they had made it after all...
