Where I live, four through nine is translatable to four and nine with whole values in between. I guess it's only a local thing, or I'm expected to write everything out in baby steps for those non-speakers.

Wouldn't 10 come after 9 in the sequence （一二三四五六七八九十）? Why would they put a different character instead of 10 when the numbers 1 through 10 are the characters that are constantly repeating in numbers? I wasn't being very serious with that comment, though ("obviously" was the cue).
