The Children of Duile

TreeofLifeByJenDelythN.gif

History:

Hidden away within the forests of Naboo, a society previously only believed to be a rumor has begun to flourish. They call themselves the Children of Duile, young men and women blessed by the "Bua" (the Force). From whence they originally came is not known, yet their existence had been recorded many years ago and stored within the Jedi Library. They were a peaceful, yet primative society relying upon their surroundings for all they needed for many years.

Yet, as the urban sprawl began to encroach upon their surroundings, the Council Elder, Metoiba, began to hear echoes from the dead, "Taghairm", warning him of their existence being threatened. Keeping a watchful eye upon the society, he constantly spoke to the others of the evils the sprawling cities offered them, words heeded at first. Yet, as their resources dwindled, they were forced to enter into society Metoiba believed the spirits of their fallen ancestors would lead them. For years, they struggled to maintain their way of life without the ways of the outside corrupting the young ones, yet it was inevitable, many began forsaking their heritage, their beliefs, flocking instead to the ways of commerce and capitalism. Metoiba tried to reach out to the rest of the council but they too were feeling the pull to the cities. Fearing the end result, he sent his prized student, a Dryw ("druid") into this new world, fearing the effects upon himself and the future of their people.

The Dryw, once called Llywellen, spent many years in the world, struggling to hold onto her beliefs, yet finding that there were many corrupting the natural ways of the "Bua". When she reported back to her elder, his face grew grim. These people were manipulating the natural flow of the "Bua" believing they were doing the will of the Bua or seeking to harness the power held in the Bua, enslaving it to their whim. Enraged at the level of corruption, creation seeking to harness the power linking all human kind to one another, he gathered his most prized and grounded students: dryw, awenyddion and warriors alike, sending them on a crusade. If these people would not listen to reason, they must be destroyed before all of life has been tarnished by their own greed. The spirits commanded it.

Beliefs:

All life was created by the Great Grandfather and linked together through the great Bua. Whether man, woman, child, animal or plant realizes it they are all connected and dependent upon one another. Yet, the Bua balances the forces of nature through it's chosen, the elders and the dryw. These chosen can sense the will of the Bua and lead the people to seek harmony between all life and nature. Those who cause chaos and disrupt the harmony of the Boa are considered enemies that must be converted or eliminated. There was no middle ground.

(To be expounded upon)

Their Home:

The origin of the Children of Duile is uncertain, yet since that time the one reminent that had not blended in with the outside world have now taken to the skies, believing the call of the Bua has led them beyond Naboo. Small though their numbers are, they travel the galaxy in a small freighter, which serves as a home away from home. Four times a year, during the change of seasons, they return to the forests of Naboo for the rituals of spiritual cleansing, seeking the forgiveness of the Bua for their acts and for the blood shed on their conquests.

Hierarchy:

The Great Grandfather - Creator, no one has seen him before, yet great stories exist and are taught to their followers.

The Elder and members of the Council - Once a great council grounded the great society, yet many have fallen away. Their one and only leader now is the Elder Metoiba.

The Chosen - The chosen are comprised of the Dryw (druids equivalent in training to the Jedi Knights in training) and the Awenyddion (those seeking the path of the Dryw equivalent to Jedi Padawans).

Warriors - The warriors are comprised of the strongest men and women, guardians to the Dryw and assitants to the Awenyddion. Though they can feel and sense the use of the Bua, they do not possess the training the Dryw possess. It is believed these persons were not deemed worthy to be among the chosen for a reason only the Elder knew from communing with the Taghairm of the ancestors.

Abilities and Force Powers:

All of the members of the society have been trained in utilizing all of their gifts in battle. Refusing to embrace the complete technologies of the outside world, they fight using only a staff, spear, bow and arrows or knife. Each student specializes in one form of weaponry and also trains in a secondary (usually hand to hand combat or close-ranged melee). Calling upon the training of the ancestors and the ways of the Bua, they can strengthen their weapon temporarily through the force (increasing damage, speed and durability).

The Chosen also can call upon the Bua to aid them increasing their attack, strike force, or healing abilities. Still, their training is not as intensive as the rigorous training of the Jedi or Sith, hence they are well trained in fighting techniques. The Awenyddion also begin training in communicating with the peko-peko, a flying creature indiginous to Naboo, learning to call upon their animal friend to be their eyes and ears. As the Awenyddion grows in strength, the bond grows stronger between man and beast. Dryw have been known to use their skills and bonds with these creatures to lure enemies out of hiding or to even fight for them. Yet, before an Awenyddion becomes a Dryw, he or she must construct a talisman (slight bonus against force based attacks) and present it to their Dryw. A talisman carelessly constructed and presented to the Dryw is considered an insult, resulting in the person being cast down from The Chosen, drawing shame upon themselves and forcing him/her to take up arms as a warrior. Those who refuse to take up arms as a warrior join with the ancestors, paying for their shame with their spilled blood.

Force enhanced if you become an Awenyddion or Dryw. Just know that the Force enhances your weapon and attack for a very short time. It is roughly 3-5 posts for an Awenyddion and 5-9 posts for a Dryw.

Nice bit of history you have here. :) I'm curious though, if I'm reading this correctly, they are out to stop those that misuse the Bua (IE the Force) by any means necessary?

aye, which is definately the Sith and can often be the Jedi and Bendu as well depending upon the situation....lol. Their way of thinking is different from that of the Jedi and Bendu. The Bua was meant to be enjoyed by all living things providing a way to commune with one another in peace. To use the Bua to fight is a perversion of it's essence. Yet, to get their point across and prevent this perversion from spreading, they must use the Force to kill, hence why they seek repentance 4 times a year.

I have to do some looking but I'm certain there are some animal and plant based force powers in the old WEG Star wars game, somewhere.... I'll see if I can find any referances to them for you.

It sounds like they could be either mentors to the 'civilized' world or its destructors. :) That's a duality I like.

You're gonna hate Tyrn, Reron and Khavaal, because that'd probably be seen as gross misuse of the Force. That could be very interesting

We're on our way, gentlemen. I'm going to be posting fighting techniques in the next few days to help you out a little. I think we'll go ahead and introduce ourselves in the Force, though.
