Valen followed the Elder down the hallway. His mind was thrown wide as he searched the Force. He trusted the Elder, to a point. He would not let them be caught unaware in a compromising situation. Desperate men would do desperate things. He might take that chance with his own life but not with Lanna. The walk was blessedly short. He took a deep breath to steady his nerves as the door was pushed open. The importance of this was not lost on him. He stepped into the room and suppressed a cringe. It was far worse than he thought.
The Force was heavy with despair, dripping with sickness. He had felt this before. The Elder’s grandson was near death and fighting for his life. Valen could sense the apprehension in Lanna. She felt what he felt. He placed his hand on Lanna’s shoulder and gave her a small nod. He knelt at the man’s bedside and placed his hands on the man’s head. He took a deep breath and looked at Lanna. He kept his voice low.
“The sickness runs deep. We have to join our strength and even that may not be enough. If we are going to do this you must be prepared to give all of yourself. Anything less and we will fail.” He looked down at the diseased body and back at Lanna. “May the Force be with us.” He took one deep breath and dove into the Lightside. He drank deeply of the Force, pulling in as much of the Light as he could bare. His body shuddered as he pushed as far as he could. No holding back. Valen set to work. He explored every inch of the grandson’s body. He burned out disease, he repaired flesh, and urged the body to heal. He could feel his body tiring by the second. He could feel the strain on his mind. He pushed it aside. He kept working, urging Lanna to stay with him. He could not do this alone.
