CHARACTERISTICS
CHARACTERISTICS

The Inkad are a sentient arachnoid species native to the Stygian Reaches. Standing roughly 1.7 meters tall on average, the species has a hard carapace and 8 limbs, 2 of which serve the function of legs for standing and locomotion, while the other 6 appendages are used to manipulate objects. The species has large compound eyes, typically red in color, which provide surprisingly good vision for their structure. The species evolved from carnivorous arthropods, but have developed a diverse, omnivorous diet. Female Inkad lay eggs to reproduce, typically 1 or 2 at a time.

Unlike many arthropoid species, the Inkad are not strictly a hive-based species, though neither are they solitary creatures. In many ways, the Inkad resemble humans in their modes of thought and social structures; Inkad are very much individuals, but will often band together to form societal constructs, as well as simple friendships. Indeed, Inkad are even more susceptible to "pack bonding" than many humans, and will easily form attachments to people and even particularly sentimental objects. Inkad tend to accumulate souvenirs of their travels and exploits, as well as pets.

The Inkad, since achieving interstellar spaceflight, have been remarkably successful, spreading themselves across a number of worlds in the Reaches; next to Red Sith and Tionese humans, they are one of the largest single population groups in the region, although they are not represented by any single state.
HISTORY
HISTORY

The actual origins of the Inkad are mysterious, even to the Inkad themselves. Like humans in the old Galaxy, their actual home-world has been lost to time, and is a matter of some conjecture among both Inkad scholars and those of other species; some theories suggest that the Inkad home-world was sterilized during the Great Unmaking, although archaeological evidence suggests that the Inkad have been present in the wider Reaches for far longer than that.

Regardless of the age and origins of their species, the Inkad have settled on a number of worlds, with a diverse array of cultures to match. Unlike some of the other sentient races in the Reaches, however, the Inkad have few particularly large nation-states with a majority of their own kind, with most Inkad systems being independent, or part of very small alliances. Inkad live on many worlds populated by other species, as well.

INTENT

To create a unique indigenous species for the Stygian Reaches which is actually native to the region, and relatively widespread. These would be something like the Duros of the Reaches.
