Karys had found himself pulled from the Imperial front and to a different sector of space, the Corporate sector. Here he had begun to test himself in the underbellies of countless worlds, moons, and asteroid settlements. He’d thrown himself into illicit arenas night after night in an attempt to learn from his opponents.

All he found was disappointment.

None could stand against his massive frame and bulk. He’d break legs and arms, crack ribs, and break faces for three nights in an arena before moving on. He couldn’t allow rumors of a red titan crushing all who faced him in these illegal pits to spread too far, it would attract unwanted attention.

Unfortunately, in the underbelly of some industrial sector on a moon no one really cared for, the rumor spread like wildfire. By his second night, bets were rolling in and fight organizers were pushing him to fight animals instead of beings. That wasn’t why he’d come and he was beginning to realize it was time to leave. That was until an organizer came to him with an arrangement he couldn’t refuse.

There’s a Matukai warrior who’s lookin for a fight. Real tough lookin tTefling. We’ll throw the two of ya ina ring and see what’s really what. Ya in?” The sleazy Dug asked.

Karys thought about the challenge for a moment. A Matukai all the way out here? How could he refuse this opportunity at a real test.

I accept.” Karys replied.

He would go to the ring in only a pair of gym shorts. Barefooted and unarmed. He’d fight this tiefling on equal grounds, it was the only way to get a real test of his abilities and how far he’d come. When his opponent arrived, Karys would give them a nod of respect before bringing his fists up.

To the Matukai, it would be obvious that Karys was untrained. His form was sloppy and he’d likely used his weight, reach, and raw strength to carry fights. That wouldn’t work here.

It was Clove’s turn to keep Zara for a week, and Altair would use this time to either meet with Vahliri or pursue his own interests. Since she was off busy being Dark Lord and he was still in retirement watching the war play out as his beloved Empire took blow after blow, he needed to let off some steam. He hadn’t taken part in a fight club brawl in a long time, and he was more than thrilled to jump at the opportunity when the corporate sector hosted some underground fights. He couldn’t do anything overt, but he banked on not being recognized easily here.

Word was getting around that some massive red guy was slugging everyone and putting them down without fuss. The tiefling strutted into the ring, sizing up his opponent that was far larger than him. Altair tilted his head and flashed a smile, “Another fan of the Emryc Thorne routine?” He teased. After all, he himself had used it to get jacked. While he was far smaller than his opponent, he had an appreciable bulk to him.

Altair finished wrapping his fists with bindings, flexing his fingers as he got into a proper stance. The crowds were screaming and cheering, fully expecting the massive red man to mop the floor with the tiefling. Altair’s tail swished back and forth eagerly, his demeanor calm and collected as he invited the other man to start the first strike.

The Tiefling wasn’t what he’d expected. Most of the fighters he’d encountered so far were little more than Chem addled brutes. This Tiefling was alert, he seemed excited and almost friendly? When he looked down at the Matukai warrior, he found him smiling up at him and quipping.

Karys blinked in surprise.

You are not what I was expecting.” His baritone voice rumbled out in reply.

He watched as his opponent fixed his bindings and flexed his fingers. Then, suddenly the Tiefling was all about business and got into his ready stands. The shift was jarring and it caused a momentary hesitation in Karys. But it soon faded.

Karys knew Matukai meant his opponent was likely trained to an extent with the Force. So he had to be ready for anything. The first jab Karys threw wasn’t an exploratory one, it was thrown in overconfidence. He aimed it for the Tiefling’s chest, looking the take his opponent’s breath away in a single hit. He wanted to capitalize after and break the man early on, to get this over with and move on to the next arena. His other hand was kept high and tight, ready to defend if need be.

Altair smirked, “I get that a lot,” He said simply as the other man charged at him. Altair could already tell he had his size and height always work out for him. In most cases that would work, but the tiefling had been Matukai his entire life. Deciding that outright killing the guy wasn’t going to be allowed, he braced himself to fight. He didn’t have his matukai gloves on him, and he would purposely hold back on the Force.

As the punch came swinging, his own right arm came up in a harsh strike moving clockwise to slam the red man’s fist off trajectory and towards the man’s own left. Force imbued the counterstrike, though not enough to shatter any bones. Karys likely wouldn’t have expected such a steadfast batting of his swing. As he was putting his weight behind it, it would likely make him stumble a bit.

The tiefling moved lightning fast, pivoting on his right foot as his left fist whirled in from the opening he created under Karys’ arm along his right flank. His left fist would come in for a precise, solid hit to his right ribs under the raised punching arm. If it succeeded, the blow would send the far larger man flying and bruise his ribs.

Karys had partially expected this to go as many of his other fights had. Strong jab opener to the center of mass, left hook to the jaw, followed by a knee to the groin. It dropped most everyone that he’d come across so far. Those that it didn’t immediately took out usually meant a longer more interesting fight.

This opener didn’t even land on the Matukai.

The Tiefling swept aside the jab as the punch came in. He crossed it towards his left fist, preventing the left hook altogether. It was the force behind it that caught him off guard. The strength behind the block caused him to stumble to his left, following the blow.

CRACK

Karys didn’t even see the blow to his ribs coming but he felt it. The wind left his lungs as his ribs were bruised and he his feet leave the ground as his body was flung backwards and to his left. He soared through the air for what felt like an eternity. Shortly before he crashed into the ground a single thought ran through his mind.

What the fuck?

The crowd’s cheering had ceased the moment the Tiefling’s blow landed. A hushed silence had fallen over all of them. Karys could feel the eyes of countless on him, they wanted to see his downfall. He groaned before pushing himself back to his feet.

He’d been set on fire before, a few bruised ribs was nothing in comparison. His golden eyes narrowed as he brought his fists back up and then motioned for his opponent to come and get him. Maybe he’d fair better with a counter of his own?
