The Newbie

It was a cold night on tatooine the white pearl cantina was some what packed. Alex hope, and his friend Jack Verjeck were looking to expand their crew. As they said three is better than two so they sat at a table in the corner of the bar smelling of cheap booze and a bit of a humid feeling in the air. A few people came and went looking to fill the spot but all were turned away due to the fact that they didn't seem to have what it took to be part of their team. "Well this sucks 5 people showed and now where takers come on Alex why do we need some one else?" Said Jack "You know very well why we can handle a bit on our own but it would be great to have the extra help beside I'm sick of only being stuck with you so hush up and sit still we will find some one it's only a matter of time" so there they sat waiting for the right person to sit down and convince them they had what it took. Jack wasn't happy but Alex was he was read to turn some one into the best they could be its what he did and he loved it.

Nalah had found herself in a cantina. She had noticed the sign as she walked in, but truth be told she didn't much care for something like the name of the place. She was more concerned with the fact it was warmer than it was outside. Little known fact about deserts, they tended to get cold at night. It was wise to find some where to warm up for a little while before a traveler warm themselves, preferably with a drink before carrying on. That being said Nalah did know enough about the outer rim to avoid certain drinks, from certain cantinas.

She noted a few people loitering about as people tended to do that time of night. None the less she seated herself at the bar and placed her order, nursing her drink when it was given to her. She'd take in the room one last time before pulling out her data pad and opening it, she needed a plan. No doubt one would come to her,she would just have to be patient. In the mean while at least it was warm.

As Alex and Jack sat in there corner of the bar Alex looked up to notice some one new had entered the cantina she walked in sat down and ordered somthing. He didn't know what it was but there was somthing about her he couldn't put his finger on it so he turned to Jack "Hey I'll be right back ok." He replied with "Alright man what ever" and with that Alex made his way over to this new comer he sat in a seat next to her and ordered a drink then he turned to her and said "Hey you new around here? Well if you are allow me to welcome you to our little town. The names Alex, Alex hope and you are?" he held out his hand to shake hoping he didn't seem to much like an idiot and just waited to see what would happen.

Nalah had been paying attention to her data pad and thus had not noticed when some one had come up beside her. Normally she would have noticed such a thing. But it was a cantina and the room was fairly crowded, she had been jostled more than once and she was sitting still. None the less the sound of a voice next to her did catch her attention. She looked up from what she was doing, curious as to who was close to her personal space bubble, it was the outer rim after all who knew who it could be.

"New? Something like that." It seemed to be a safe enough explanation of why she was there. "For now at least. I tend to have ..stop overs, no idea how long I'll be here but, I am for now." She took the hand for a moment, after all it wouldn't end well for her if she offended the locals as soon as she got there, she would have plenty of time to offend them later. "Nalah." She would add giving her name, she might not be thrilled with being stuck on what was a dust ball but like her mother often reminded her she was not raised by a nerf herd.

She seemed a little distracted but Alex was thinking a bit more about what she said "something new huh? So your stuck here hmmm. Can I just ask you a few question maybe buy you a drink it won't take long" he said if she wanted somthing new than he may be able to make it happen the questions were simple. Example "have you ever fired a blaster and have you ever thought of being a bounty hunter and do you work well with others" somthing like that Alex had high hopes this would turn out great.

Nalah arched an eye brow trying to figure out what was going on. She had gone from wasting time on a data pad to some one wanting to have a chat with her about who knew what. On the other hand, she didn't really have any where to be at least not at the moment, and there was always the chance what ever it was he had to ask her would be useful. "Alright, ask away." She replied a little guarded folding her arms as she waited for him to ask what ever it was he going to.

If she were being honest she had no idea what he was about and the fact he had approached her seemingly at random did leave her wondering what was going on. Life had taught her that people rarely approached you without wanting something. Rarely did they want to tell you what a great job you were doing at life and slip you some credits for being alive. Chances were what ever he had to ask her was less than what she would call legal.

Or she was being biased given where she was and he really wanted to know if his eyes went with his shoes.

Alex started asking question on the subject of what were things she used to do for work and other things related as he questioned more and more on this and other subjects he began to see what kind of person she was. After the questions he finally came to his point "Well look you answered these questions great if you asked me so this is what im going to do you see me and my pal over there" Alex points to Jack "were bounty hunters other than that we are guards for hire but we do other things that is a lot to handle for only two so we are trying to round up some people to make a sort of a crew and I think your perfect you will get paid good and you will be able to travel a lot and if you dicided to leave at some point you can what do you think?

Nalah debated on just how to respond. She was not aware that she looked like some form of bounty hunter, but if she did she wasn't going to point out she was not in fact a bounty hunter. Maybe she would not get shot if she kept that look up. Of course she didn't get shot at often as a general rule, but one never knew. On one hand if she said yes there would be a great deal more shooting in her general direction which was a minus. The plus side being it would get her off the planet. Which if she were honest with herself not some where she wished to spend a lot of time on.

"Nor are you subtle." But then. those types of people didn't tend to be. "But if you're paying.." Which was true enough, it wasn't what she was planning on doing, however she also hadn't plan on coming here. Besides, he did say she could bail if she wanted to. "Fine. I assume these sort thing goes on here all of the time, one of those outer rim things I suspect."

Alex heared her response and could not believe she said yes! "Great then I'll let my Jack know that your with us now and we can refuel real quick and when your ready we can take off I know a guy that can get us an easy job to get some more credits......... Wait also just asking but do you have a blaster?"

Nalah couldn't help but be amused at the reaction. There went any idea she thought of him having a professional front, she gave something like a mental shrug, she supposed not every one had one of those. "Blaster? Sure." Which was true enough, while she wasn't a professional shooter she could at least line up with a target and hit it most of the time she had tried before, not that she couldn't improve with time, she was sure.

She shrugged. "I can go whenever." She had no real reason to stay beyond that, and she reasoned that the longer she stayed on the planet the more likely she was to find a reason to stay, nor did she want to.

Alex replied with "good that you have one here take this think of it as a welcome gift." Alex slipped her about a thousand credits "just to get started with now when....." Alex looked to his communicator he was getting a call "hehe sorry about that here give me a second" Alex walked away and picked up the call "hello?" Then he heared Jacks voice "Hey man hurry up we got a job some guy from the outer rim wants us to smuggle some stuff for him I don't know what it is but he says he will pay well trust me on this so when your ready grab the newbie and let's take off alright" Alex replied "Ok man we will be there in a bit" Alex walks back to Nalah "ok look if your ready looks like some guys got a job for us talk about timing right....well It seems easy enough what do ya say?"

Nalah wasn't about to complain about free credits, although she was sure she was going to have to do something to earn it sooner or later. But, for now free was free. "I guess." She'd respond with a shrug. She had no idea what the job in question might be, but given the fact she had just been hired a few moments ago she was not shocked by the fact she got very little information.

She was curious what it was though. Of course around here it could be any number of things, the locals weren't known for their respect for the law. "As long as he has credits. I'll assume you checked about that." It wasn't unknown for some one to try to do something like that.

"Of course he says it will pay pretty well come on let's head over to the ship I'll introduce you to Jack" they headed over to a decent sized cargo ship as they headed in they ran into him "Hey you must be the new recruit well anyway nice to meet you names Jack" then he spoke to Alex "ok it's all set up I'll give you both the run down in the main space we have the plans of where to meet and drop off come on"

Nalah nodded as she picked up her stuff, not expecting to be back that way again and not really wanting to swing back by anyway if she got the chance to. "Nalah." She replied to Jack as he pointed out that she was in fact the new person. She nodded as he explained what would happen. "Like I said so long as I get something out of it, I don't really care one way or another what they might be doing."

Alex walked into the main room with Nalah and Jack. "Ok here is the job the man wants us to what you might call steal a cargo of sith relics it just so happens to be hard to come by so it's payout price is high it's located on naboo the security will be a bit of a problem but to much of a hassel" as Jack went on he got to the final part. "So I will go in from the south east side if the building and you two will go In from the north west once we have it we can make the drop off to whoever on corasunt." Alex replied "Good work lets take off and get this done but one more thing how much will it pay?" Jack replied "with the amount of it and how rare it is we are looking at about just about a little bit shy of a million credit" Alex looked shocked "Well I guess this guy must really wants this stuff well ok let's get it done"

Nalah arched an eyebrow at the mention of sith relics and was pretty sure she knew why they were willing to pay so much for them. Sith tended to get touchy when people took their artifacts, which in turn tended to end with some one meeting the business end of a saber. "Well we can't expect for it to be easy or they'd do it for themselves." She'd add a bit brightly as things were explained.

She was fully prepared to be shot at and possibly stabbed, besides being suspect of any one who would want a crate full of sith artifacts. Unless they were into for the historical value and no one was ever in for it for the historical value.

Alex saw her point "I know it never is but you see I know the building I use to go there when I was a sith but I changed my mind so here I am look all we have to do is let Jack set some charges to distract them for a bit and we just grab all we need and go and if we run into trouble in sure we can handle it" Alex smiled "Just do what you have to do and this will be a piece of cake". A few hours later they were landing in a small town near the building were the artifacts were kept.

Nalah nodded not having been a sith herself, she would have to trust that he knew what he was talking about. The trip there seemed to be fairly uneventful and allowed her some time to prep for.. whatever it was she had manged to get herself into. "Sure we can handle it, just a few angry sith what could go wrong." She couldn't help but get a bit rueful at the idea.

None the less she would fall into line having no idea where these things where. Of course if it were she would store them some where out of the way. "I assume they have these things suck some where cozy."

Alex looked at her "they soul if they were not going to ship them off world that's when we make the grab tomorrow right before they load them when Jack distracts them" he then looks at the setting sun it's getting late and I have already got sepret rooms at this hotel not far for us to stay so I would rest up and make sure all your gear is ready anyway see you tomorrow.
