Jido Mar

Jido, third child of the Mar family, had grown up as the second son to a war chieftain of his own name. Being the offspring of a warchief had its perks such as a galactic education beyond that of Nagi, fierce blade training and financial security, however, the long shadow cast by his two older siblings doured the many positives he could have enjoyed if jealousy wasn’t his bane. Jido’s brother, Tak, was a brilliant Swiftcut foil duelist and the pride of their father’s eye; it was known that Tak would succeed after their father’s death as the next warchief of Clan Mar. The eldest’s blade was sharp, but their sister’s tongue was sharper. Kie’s oratory skills were without match in their territory and inspired many to support their father’s ambitious causes for nationalism. Between them, Tak and Kie were a set destined for greatness and left Jido out of their grand schemes.

‘The Forgotten Son’ did what many less than golden boy or girl siblings did: rebel. At first his transgressions were minute. Jido listened in on his father’s meetings, stole glances at his sister’s speeches to learn their content and initiated fights with boys a few years his senior. These were cries for attention--the need to be involved in any way he could--but his efforts were seen in the wrong light. Instead of inclusion, exclusion became more fierce and so did his familial rebellion as the years progressed.

Appearance

Like any Nagai, Jido’s physical appearance attracts the attention of both ambitious thieves and sappy sympathetics vying to either rob him or save him. With his alabaster skin tone, he looks weak—some would say drugged—and at the tipping point of life. As thin as he is tall, his stick-like figure encourages the deception. The Nagai’s eyes are grey and his hair is dark as night; together, he strikes others as a brooding figure from a distance. However, Jido rarely wears a true frown and prefers the limelight that wild laughter brings.

To those who meet him, the man’s face is alight with constant expression, shifting with his erratic emotions. Between grand arm movements, Jido’s long and slender fingers twitch carefully around his knives in anticipation of deception, where they hang on a leather utility belt around his waist.

Personality

Jido drips with emotion. Without the shackles of duty—chains that bind his ‘perfect’ siblings—he is a man tethered only to his own will. He reacts instinctually and openly for those around him to know exactly where he stands on a matter. Except, don’t always take his word at face value because Jido carries a penchant for game-play; it is not unlike him to change the end of the deal or forge self-benefiting plans midway through a task. When dealing with this Nagai, he will make it clear that he requires a boon worth his time.

As someone who grew up as always third worst, the Nagai will deal death if necessary to stay ahead, but he isn’t bloodthirsty. Task driven, Jido employs every tool and trick in his arsenal to get what he needs—it’s simply coincidence that others feel the need to fight him, and true to his heritage, Jido feels honor bound to accept the challenge of a thrown gauntlet.

When situations go his way, Jido embraces the gift of gab, ensuring the world doesn’t go without his sarcastic humor, but as soon as the scales tip the other way, his frustrations fuel his body language and his tongue ceases to wag haphazardly. He is the personification of a constant tug-of-war that battles between at ease and impatience. Because of this touch-and-go behavior, Jido typically lacks long-term planning, favoring acting off the cuff and respecting those who can keep up with him.

Skills and Abilities

THE FORCE

9104430_orig.gif
Jido neither possesses nor seeks grandiose Sith power, and therefore accesses the Force through more base means available to the dark side. As someone who has suffered at the hands of rigid family rules, he easily recognizes fear, frustration and pride in others, so he draws strength from those natural emotions to augment his personal puissance, as well as, mentally manipulate targets away from objective thinking towards opinions that subjectively align with his own.

As someone still in his twenties, Jido’s mastery of the Force is far from complete and largely relies on his charisma to open opportunities to advance in the galaxy. For those more studied, they perhaps would use a nudge where he would do the same with a shove. At current, the strong-willed reside outside of his grasp of influence, however, those equipped with less than higher caliber minds, could end up with fractured willpower after the Nagai’s acts of coercion.

SWORDPLAY

efd53f90ed585301630862541dd5e2df.gif
Blades are a strong suit for Jido. Raised from birth to learn the ways of the Nagai trinity—Tehk’la blades, longswords and Swiftcut foils—he received advanced training from his war chief father and other talented loyalist Mar fighters. Upon his ‘forced’ admission into the Sith fold, the addition of lightsaber training came naturally to him. Drawing from his knowledge in swordsmanship, Form I and Form II suit him best because of his education with longswords and foils respectively. The beauty of balance that the second form offers is the key that leads him to victory when blood must spill.

While engaged in combat, Jido thrives in one-on-one fighting and will isolate foes when outnumbered. To do this, he summons both agility and strength from the Force as he fights to tip situations in his favor. Despite his skill to kill or maim, he doesn’t take pleasure in it. More often than not, the Nagai opts for using his Tehk’la blades opposed to his lightsaber in an effort to end situations quickly and without fuss rather than drawing them out for pleasure. Because of Jido’s attention to the balance of swordplay and his planet’s naivety with technology, he is at a disadvantage when faced against a multitude of blasters.

OTHER

In conjunction with his fast reflexes both due to his species and the Force, Jido can operate speeder bikes and speeders when required, however, battle ready ships are outside of his skill range. He is able to fly, but he only does so as a basic pilot.

Operations that require a moderate to high level of technical understanding are burdensome for him; so much so that he goes out of his way to avoid slicing and instrument use when possible.

Blasters are crude, and he is loath to use them.

As someone that hails from the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, on his home planet Nagi, his immersion with other languages is limited. He speaks Basic and Nagaian, but his connection to the dark side allows him to feel the emotional output of those he cannot verbally understand.

Belongings

af628307b22fd82320a6823c54b416bb.jpg
Having left Nagi in somewhat of a hurry, Jido's worldly possessions were nil to none save an even dozen Tehk'la blades. Over the last decade, he'd lost more than half of them and only five remain. Even his Swiftcut foil stayed on Nagai; normally, his birthright would demand that he carry the thin blade as a symbol of his position in the clan. However, in Jido's opinion, his family discarded him, so when he joined his new family--then, the Sith Eternal--the Nagai adopted the telltale item of the Sith, a red single-bladed lightsaber. Throughout the decade that followed the inception of his training, Jido kept minimal possessions, and it wasn't until tasked with the mission to establish a base of intelligence on Nar Shaddaa that he acquired items of his own.

Eager to begin, Jido purchased an old ship that seemed mostly forgotten--a WTK-8A Interstellar Transport that he named The Pale Lady. It wasn't the fastest vessel, but it allowed for a variety of scenarios with its Class 2 hyperdrive, docking ring and turret gun. Not to mention it was large enough to move cargo under the guise of a nondescript tin can. However, Lady was a lot of ship for him, so he purchased an R6 unit for navigation and repairs. Although, even a Luddite like Jido could admit that the droid was capable of more than simply acting the bolt-fashioned co-pilot.

Biography

THE SHADOW

The youngest of three, Jido’s life had been event after event attempting to live out of the shadows of his older siblings. The eldest, Tak, had always been the crown jewel of the Mar clan because of his position in their father's military command; he was destined to follow their father's footsteps and become the next warlord of their territory. Although no warrior herself, Jido’s sister, Kie, shone brightly all on her own. Where the eldest sibling reveled in the world of combat, Kie proved that her tongue was a sharp as any Tehk'la blade. It was as if she were born to lead her people as a mouthpiece for their father's worldly aspirations, and she was. Between his older siblings' talents, Jido strove to distinct himself from them with deeds and pursuits of his own, but it was seemingly impossible to outmaneuver destiny. Tak and Kie were destined to lead Nagai by birthright. Make no mistake, Jido wasn't without talent of his own--especially with blades, as was revered by his people--but as the third child, fate squeezed him out of its plans with the Nagai people.

To mask his jealousy, Jido bore an armor imbued with candor, humor, and at times, hysteria, and the green monster ate away at his soul for years. No matter his private successes, the laurels of his brother and sister taunted him without reprieve. No victory could be his and his alone, nor could any defeat. Nothing was his own.

THE DUEL

The Nagai were an honor driven people. Some would say to a fault... and they would be right. So when Jido felt his lowest, the day his family were 'too busy' to celebrate him become a man because of some border conflict, the third son couldn't suffer the insult anymore. The following morning, he challenged his brother to a duel of blades; first blood would lead their father's armies when the time came, and the spotlight would finally shine upon the forgotten son. Honor bound, Tak agreed--although much to the chagrin of their father, who thought the drunken nature of his youngest disqualified the challenge. The rules were simple, but the task was not and brought the crowds to the Mar doorstep. Although the duel wasn't to the death, the stakes weren't any less high. The future of the clan was at a crossroads, and despite his brother's preening and societal image, many knew that Jido possessed a flair for swordplay in his own right. Finally, it was his chance for some recognition . . . some truth.

When he stepped into the square and saw Tak across from him, Jido steeled himself for the task at hand. He stitched together the corners of his mind and will; the sensation was akin to repairing a broken mirror. The 'shards' gathered from the corners of his mind and refit to become whole. He poured the years of burning jealousy and cold rage into his hands and heart. Never before did he experience such power and surety than at that moment. It felt was right.

Needless to say, the duel was hard fought. The brothers decided to fight with sophistication and wielded traditional Swiftcut foils; their efforts sided with elegance over brute force. Like dancers, they lounged and parried with grace, although any Nagai warrior knew how dangerous those moves were. Tak was taller by two inches and pressed harshly, augmented by his own anger at his youngest sibling's challenge. The eldest thrust repeatedly for more than first blood, which opened up his flank because of the wider arcs he employed. Jido saw his opening and stepped out of the line by pulling his right foot behind his left before striking, however, the attack never came. The youngest tripped on his own legwork and smacked the floor, causing the crowd to cheer.

Dread washed over Jido as he knew the final blow was imminent, but there was also loathing. With his back against the ground and his brother's foil aimed at his face, Jido exploded with anger at his failure. The effect wasn't like anything he expected nor seen. Tak flew backwards, a look of confusion etched his face. The crowds wore the same look, but none so much as Jido himself. The entire clan stared at the youngest brother; strangely, he could feel their united bewilderment focused upon him. What was also clear was that the duel had ended without a victor. Their father saw to that as he quickly ended the trial between his sons.

THE VISITOR

982656ad8dc93edf1f814ab69e7944d0.jpg
That night over a painful dinner with the family--the sort that meant darting eyes and guarded conversation--a knock on the door broke the ice. She was a stranger both in introductions and species. The human's abnormally yellow eyes fixated on Jido while she spoke about a force, or maybe it was the Force, raging within the youngest Mar. She sought to take him from all that he knew, which to no surprise, his father agreed. Although Jido wasn't in dishonor for his deeds, he certainly wasn't in honor for them. Robbed of the opportunity to rise within the clan and his people, there wasn't much choice in the matter.

THE OPPORTUNITY

ulnov8yldm0y.jpg
After leaving Nagi with the visitor, who Jido quickly learned was a member of an unique order that honored the true path of the Force—unlike the famous Jedi who perverted its nature, the following decade was a grueling test of his comprehension of the dark side. His ruthless teacher bade him to channel his emotional challenges with his bloodline to chariot his power, while encouraging Jido’s blade skills, which now included a lightsaber.

tumblr_n3j98rQy1k1ra40huo1_500.gif
Towards the end of the decade, the Eternal, leader of the Sith, readopted the name ‘Sith Order’ for Jido’s dark side coalition, effectively cementing the Sith Eternal’s intentions for galactic unification. This would marshal a new crusade to reframe his questionable honor and prestige by expanding his influence while executing his will through the dark side of the Force and his blades. Thus far, his understanding of the Force has been an uphill battle, but Jido now strives to understand the shadows that haunt him.

After the prison break in the Core, the Eternal unveiled the rebranded Sith Order and effectively activated Jido’s faction with a new purpose. Due to his over the top charisma, the young Legionnaire was tasked with the never ending job of reconnaissance. Once again the Sith ascended from the shadows, but sometimes the light brought undesirable consequences. Jido would investigate who sided where and why, which landed the Nagai on Nar Shaddaa with nothing other than his blades, ship and will.

BIOGRAPHY

K-1C5, or as he likes to be called 'Kicks', is a KX-Series Security Droid who was initially in the service to the Galactic Empire during Darth Sidious's reign. Originally manufactured as a loophole combat droid for the purpose of protecting the kyber crystal rich moon, Jedha, under Imperial rule, K-1C5 had followed his orders as well as any other droid. While on duty, he took a blaster bolt to the chest where he was left for dead under a pile of fallen rubble. Storm Troopers ignored his pleas for help and left him for dead. It didn't take long for the local scavengers to begin picking at his parts, but the KX droid was saved from complete dismemberment by a warrior woman named Kala. She batted away the youngsters and stowed K-1C5 in her home, making repairs to him as time would allow her, however, Kala refused to bring to life a combat droid into her home without taking measures to ensure her own safety. She wiped the droid's memory and muddled with his programming to ignore his natal Imperial allegiance. Unbeknownst to the droid, Kala had been a kyber temple guard and vehemently hated the Galactic Empire. Unlike the Imperialists, she refused to dictate his life, but she did offer him a seat on her ship. She couldn't take the destruction of her temple any longer and wished to find new purpose to aid in taking down the Empire.

As K-1C5 no longer had an objective, or memory for that matter, he took up Kala on her offer and boarded her ship bound for Corellia where she promised to help find him work if he wished it. The capital, Coronet City, was a main hub for manufacturing Imperial Star Destroyers and other lesser ships for the Galactic Empire, as well as, home to a great number of shipyards. As the planet was under Imperial rule, a KX droid was not suspicious and under Kala's direction, the pair found him work in a small shipyard that worked independently of the planet's overlords. Originally, he worked as a guard to keep out low-life's and criminals off property, but as a KX droid, his presence offered the shipyard some freedoms unavailable to other non-Imperial commissioned locations. Kala began hosting meetings in the shipyard for Rebel Alliance sympathizers, and K-1C5 ensured the Empire's goons wouldn't enter the premise. After a while, the 'security droid' gained a level of self-esteem and importance to the cause, but more than that, he saw that the plan worked because of him. Without him, the shipyard would had been long unveiled for treason.

During one of Kala's meetings at the shipyard, Kicks's patrol was interrupted by a trio of droids that took him by surprise. He fought tooth and nail to get the advantage, and although he wounded one, he eventually came to submission. To his confusion, the pair holding him down didn't end him. Instead, they started to chuckle between them. 'Fire' they said he possessed, but the damaged droid complained about the kick she'd received. The trio told K-1C5 that they were part of a droid independence group based on Coruscant. They believed in the individual freedoms of droids by the 'sweat' of droids. They called themselves the Droid Gotra, and they hoped K-1C5 could help them gain a foothold on Corellia. His reputation by other anti-Empire droids had landed on the radar of the self-governing group, and here there they were offering him an opportunity to truly belong to something. The KX droid took the opportunity to join like minded individuals, but they wouldn't leave him without first baptizing him with a new name. It was at this time that K-1C5 took the call-sign Kicks, thereby establishing himself as an independent being and member of the Droid Gotra.

Throughout Imperial rule, Kicks was the eyes and ears for his droid brothers and sisters on Corellia, which he soon learned expanded to the fearsome organic syndicate called the Crymorah. After the Battle of Yavin, Kicks relocated to Coruscant where he dedicated his life to the ensuring droids everywhere knew that they can live their lives without organic masters. Apolitical, K-1C5 operates to better the situation of the Droid Gotra, which largely includes nefarious gigs that require his particular set of programming.

Personality

Personalities and Imperial droids don't exactly jive or hold hands, but after his reprogramming in 14 BBY, K-1C5 began to soak in the world around him with an uninhibited lens. His rescuer, Kala, might have been an angel, but his early surroundings on Corellia had shown him a darker side of humanity. Without the memories that humans had the luxury to carry with them, the 'security droid' emulated the 'me and my own' mentality. A sort of selfishness worked its way into K-1C5's wiring, which caused him to become stubborn, territorial and, at times, violent.

It was a takers world, and although he helped Kala with keeping her Rebel meetings secret from Empire intervention, the droid saw this as another example of selfishness. It was only going to be a matter of time before he took what was his; the serendipitous arrival of the Droid Gotra solidified Kicks's personality leanings, and so his sense of self grew to include the greater droid world. However, Kicks should not be confused as solely a self-propagator. He does possess a modicum of respect for some organics--especially if they are the type that pulled themselves up by the bootstraps. Kicks believes in a laissez-faire world, so he sees nothing wrong with syndicate life. The less government intervention the better--no matter which side. As a word of warning, don't take too long to appease him because he's quick to use violence.

Skills

Per K-1C5's manufacturing, the enforcer droid is adept in a series of combat methods including: hand-to-hand, melee and ranged combat. Although his skills don't extend to that of a Force user, his physical ability tops that of most any athletic life form. Moreover, this strength allows K-1C5 to bear a high carrying burden without becoming exhausted from the effort. Due to his build, Kicks utilizes his scomplink to hack system controls to his advantage. After spending over a decade in Corellia, homeworld to some of the galaxy's legendary shipyards and markets, Kicks knows his way around a hydrospanner.

Although seemingly perfect, K-1C5 does possess a number of flaws. Between normal wear and tear and combat damage, the century old droid experiences untimely program malfunctions like language crossing and loss of bodily function, and because of his stubborn nature, Kicks refuses to upgrade his parts as he believes they are part of his soul. Despite his interest in ships, he cannot fly, so he regularly 'requires evac' or simply 'bums rides'.
