Morning had broken, in fact it was shattered in pieces all along the floor. Luy had been medtating since the first rays broke the canopy. What were they going to be like? How would each react to his teaching, would they understand the knowledge he would share? He knew Horus would be difficult, he'd received messages from command; and interations with him were always guarded. Did the Vahla think that Luy would be concerned? Would hold a predjudice against them due to their species? This was not the was of the Jedi, they would need to accept this.

But for now, Luy was sat in a lotus position, his hands folded into his robe's expansive sleeves. The day warmed, and while he was becalmed in the meditation, he could hear the students awakening. "Initiate Tempust, please, could I have some of your time?" he didn't open his eyes, his tone not holding a question as such. As the student arrived, he signalled to the ground before his rock, his hand removed from the sleeve was held out with his palm outstretched. Then it returned when he sensed the male be seated. "So tell me Horus, how do you feel right now?"

The old Master's eyes opened slowly and smoothly, a deep intake of breath was slowly released. Meditation centred him, it allowed his mind to becalm and reach the serenity that self-discipline granted. He awaited his students response. Were they over thinking? Did they not know? Only time would tell.

Horus has been awake since the dawn of first light, having a very strict schedule of six hours per sleep cycle. The morning was spent tossing in his cot, or humming gently enough away from the other initiates. He only rose to fetch his flask of tea from his starship, located a short ways away from the encampment. As he returned, he noticed that Master Luy had been meditating just across from the others. His travels as of late swirled in his mind, missions with fellow members of the Alliance, the meeting with an imperial agent who he hoped would turn defector. Combat alongside a Sith in a deluge of blaster fire, working together out of necessity and holding back his own distaste. He doubted The Alliance knew of these private travels, but he anticipated their disapproval should they find out. To his surprise, he was summoned to his Master, and approached calmly with a gentle step and a gentler smile. By Vahlan standards, Horus was very trusting, which perhaps went to show the deep distrust embedded into their very nature - ages of scrutiny and backlash had caused the species no end of grief.

“Of course, Eldrin. I’d be honored to meditate and reflect with you.”

Taking a swig of his tea, Horus sat in front of the aging feeorin, Taking the time to arrange his feet in a manner that cross them in a meditative clothes. He then looked up at the beams of light in the wondering fashion seeing them ones on the top of the canopy was wonderful indeed. He couldn’t say he knew what it meant to be a Jedi, But he was ready to learn. Master Luy had been kind enough to select Horus as an initiate, and for that reason alone he had earned the Vahlan’s loyalty and a good deal of trust. Breathing in deep and allowing oxygen to enter the body calmly and reflexively. He then exhaled once more as the Jedi posed his next question. How did he feel? Today was his birthday, in fact, and by this point he could only think of whether his father would approve of this. He held no resentment towards either Empires beyond their Sith overlords, a new outlook that was fresh in his mind. After meeting Astridia, he had come to the conclusion they where simply misguided in what they where fighting for, assuming the alliance to be insurgents. He opened his thoughts, and his emotions, letting the walls of his mind fall in a show of faith towards the Jedi who could so easily pick them out; he would be able to sense the change from guarded to trusting.

”I had a dream. It was about my father, but this time the motions seemed to go on forever. I tried to save him, but I wasn’t fast enough. I suppose I feel... reflective. Like the past could affect the future, like I’ve made a mistake somewhere down the line or trusted the wrong person. I do trust you, I am willing to learn, however I can”

So,they had begun to look internally. But still, emotion roiled around the like a storm above the ocean. Trust was key to the experiences thatthey were going to share. He felt the guarded nature of the Valhan drop like a stages curtain. The young male's feelings washed over him to break upon his stoic facade. "Trust will be key, but your emotions will consume you if you do not temper them. The Path to that which we call the Dark Side is lined with strong emotions. While Fear, Anger, and Hate are a seductive scale into the embrace of the darkness, Love is by far the most subversive." He contemplated on his next piece of Wisdom, allowedthe first to be digested and then he moved on.

"The Past has happened, and while we are felling its ripples it is the Present in which we find ourselves. Your concerns should be on the here and now, not from whence you came. The fact is that regardless of what has happened you are here now. The Future maybe guided by the Preseent, but it is in a constant state of flux. To attempt to blinker yourself with concern and Fear will blind you to the now and in turn will tempt you to the darkness that that emotional state will be in." He took a breath to centre himself. So much knowledge wished to burst forth from him, but he had to maintain control, the youngling needed to assiimilate it for themselves.

"You are Passionate, this is linked to your emotions, you allow emotional thoughts, and acts to drive you. This is akin to flying you ship with the navi-com switched off. Highly dangerous, and ill-advised. Look round you, as you have been young Horus. Take in the now, why must you concern yourself with anything but the beauty of Life and the Force. Be at Peace, bathe in the Serenity of the moment and feel the Force all around us." He silenced, refusing to disturb what could be this young man's awakning or the first bum in his journey. Each did not matter, what did was how he reacted to it. Luy's eyes closed again and he to reached out to feel the maelstrom of Life around them.

How it swirled, each creature holding a sliver of energy around them, like the streaks of the air that flowed through the branches. Such light, such colour, such Life. The meditating Luy began to smile in his apparent trance.

“Then tempered they shall be. To the present, then.”

Wisdom, age-old wisdom, flew from the Master's lips. Horus was careful to listen and absorb as much information as he was given, breathing in deeply and extending his mind even before the Master had instructed him to do so. Meditation came naturally to him, though he mostly liked to mediate when playing his hallisket. Something about the music was just as natural as the Force itself, and it allowed him to channel himself into a positive and vibrant mood. This was no different, reaching out to the sands that gently sang, the wind that hummed through the trees, the gentle drip of water from the leaf of one such caught his ear. He was tempted to hum, but he did not, instead choosing to bask in the natural beauty of the location. For a moment, the sun shone directly on him, but it was passing as his mediation began. He could feel it, the call of the Light, and he answered it with no thought, no emotion. Serenity, calm, like a candle alone in a dark room, compared to the blaze that was the Jedi Master. A calming blaze, a powerful flame, seen through the Vahlan's senses.

”My emotions are tempered by my experiences. We Vahla are naturally passionate, and I work hard to keep those very same emotions in check. My concern for the Galaxy around me only grows the more I explore it.”

Horus adjusted his position to sit crossed legged as Luy smiled, sinking deeper into a meditative trance. To say he was unawakened would be slightly incorrect - The Vahla were born with force sensitivity, to find one without a link to that power was rare. But they were naturally attuned to the Dark Side by nature of their patron, the Dark Goddess Vahl. In times past, legends say it was a Jedi Knight who freed the Vahla of her oppressive presence and restored peace to those who remained. It was for this reason Horus had decided to join the other hopefuls, that perhaps one day he could make just as major a difference. But today? What had he done? He had discovered a possible recruit, aided a Mayor in a situation of dire need and even volunteered for as many a mission as he could. The Alliance was coming into its own, and Horus heeded the call whenever he received it. This reflection bolstered his mood slightly - he had not been idle. The clipping of a fin took his attention again, and he delved beneath the water with the very same creature for a time, waiting for the next piece of information to be offered. He would exercise patience, something he didn't exactly have difficulty using.

It was good tosee one so disciplined in the clan. Luy stood up and took up his 'staff'. "Very good, very good. Concern for all that you meet is crucial, providing it does not turn into a fear." Slowly, he paced around and watched the young one. They were already ready to step out on the Path, but tradition stated he would need to take one Trial. The Force was very evident, they were disciplined and they wanted to join.

Luy began to walk toward the camp. "I see great things ahead in your future Horus, the Force will always be with you; as will I and your clan friends. Soon we will have to hold the Trials... and you may meet some of the other Masters." Luy moved to the cooking pot and served up a bowl of the ever simmering stew. He was famished, the meditation had been long and secluded.

/end thread.
