BIOGRAPHY

Tiberius grew up on Dromund Kaas, with an upbringing in an unremarkable family no different from any other among lower echelons on life on the Old Imperial Capital - Aside from one key detail. Even as a young boy in his early school life Tiberius was bright, very bright. He aced every test he was made to sit, excelled in sports and was a fine marksman in firing range exercises to boot (for his age). Consequently he was fast tracked through early life, never given a chance to really be a child but also winning his humble family name some small measure of respect among their peers on their close-to-the bottom rung of Imperial culture.

At eleven Tiberius was enrolled in the Imperial Academy, along with all his peers. His subjects of interest were history, science, politics and combat - a heady mix mainly influenced by his mother, who spied a chance to have her son raise their name even higher. In her eyes if he could become a pilot, or even an officer aboard a ship someday, he would be their claim to fame. The name they could point to when their neighbors asked them, “Why are YOU on Dromund Kaas?”. For Tiberius’ part he enjoyed his time there, relishing a chance to learn subjects he was interested in instead of those prescribed by the Imperial Education System. His teachers - well trained to earmark potential and weed out the dregs - noticed him early on, and pushed him further than the others. They set him harder work, they pitted him against older students in the combat ring, and they never once accepted an excuse. Tiberius became well used to the lash, be it verbal or otherwise.

Graduation came swiftly when one was under as much pressure as Tiberius had been subjected to. To his credit he’d risen to every challenge, never once asking for a reprieve and coming back again a second time if at first his efforts were deemed unacceptable. He was a model student: Smart, persevering, tough... Even appearing charismatic. There was just one problem the Instructors could see.

He was only doing as he was asked. Not once did he go the extra mile - submit extra work as penance for failure, cheat or otherwise hurt another student, or attempt to bribe his teachers to look the other way. He had no drive to advance, or if he did they couldn’t figure out his motives. And that was an issue.

An Imperial in a position of power, as Tiberius was probably destined to become, without an obvious loyalty or bond to be exploited, was a risk. He had his family, but Tiberius hardly visited and the relationship was strained at best thanks to his mother’s early use of his abilities for her own gain. There was no purchase, nothing to keep him bound to the Empire once he rose through the ranks. Consequently, a black mark went against Tiberius’ record. It was indelible, it was invisible and he was never told. To this day it remains, though its impact has somewhat lessened on his life as the years wear on and still Tiberius remains loyal - even if nobody knows why.

Upon graduation Tiberius was taken in by Imperial Intelligence and given further training. They were the ones who could watch him most effectively, and make use of his lack of attachments and easy, false charisma. He was familiarised with specialist Imperial equipment and shown how to work in a fireteam. He was given a handler, who has remained with him all 12 years he’s been with Intelligence, and who is the closest thing there is as a confidant to him.

In those 12 years Tiberius has been held at arm’s length. He’s been given minor roles in operations, supporting objectives where he’s never had to have been told everything. Intelligence have never trusted him, he knows it - and he’s never once asked why. He’s still to this day something of an enigma to them, which makes him dangerous even if he is gifted. He’s remained loyal and unquestioning for over a decade... But not once voiced why.

In these dark times, with the Empire split and the throne divided, such mysteries mean less and less. Tiberius is a competent agent with military experience in a time when both such things are valued commodities - no longer does the Empire have the luxury of holding him back.

For better or worse, The Empire needs Tiberius Black.

Tiberius is fiercely loyal to the Empire, a staunch patriot - or at least, he wants to be, once you get to know the real him.

That can prove to be a challenge, though. Tiberius’ psyche could be best described as chameleonic. The only real loyalty he feels is to the Empire, and since this is expected of any Imperial Agent that makes it an easy weakness to cover - because Tiberius does indeed view his (self imposed) loyalty as a potential weakness another could exploit. He’s guarded, careful, and a practised hand at stepping into another’s shoes with a good degree of authenticity. He doesn’t get attached to people and doesn’t make friends, though he absolutely pretends to - carrots are so much tastier than sticks.

He’s also a trickster, a liar and a cheat. He’s very good at deception and sleight of hand - he has to be, they make up the vast bulk of his day to day job. He rationalises this by telling himself that he is genuinely true to the Empire, and any lie told in their service wasn't really in his name. Because of this underlying honesty to himself Tiberius can be incredibly hard to read - even a barefaced lie can be passed off indistinguishably as the truth if one feels genuinely justified in telling it.

He’s a sociopath who anchors himself with a self imposed sense of loyalty to the Empire.

This character has seen something of an overhaul - same chassis, different bodywork if you like. It's ready for review again and I'm tagging you both as requested by @Wit @Logan
