I was actually referring to the tech manuel for RTJ which had Y-wing and X-wing at the same speed. The wiki lists a different speed from that, retcons everywhere after all. According to the tech manuel, the Y-wing, X-wing, and Tie fighter were all equal in terms of speed and maneuverability. This is also demonstrated in the movies as Y-wings are routinely shown keeping on the tails of tie fighters and shooting them down. In RTJ a Y-wing managed to down two tie interceptors while chasing them. Y-wings aren't the sluggish behemoths people think they are.

The photon torpedoes commonly used in X-wings have yields in excess of large scale nukes in real life. It's the only reason they do damage. Gotta remember, a single turbolaser blast puts out enough energy to literally vaporize a kilometer tall skyscraper, something even a nuke can't do. And SW shields can tank hundreds of these shots, for cap ships anyways. Furthermore we know from the math that the power output by the reactor of an ISD is on par with a small sun and the shields are equally powerful. Weapons in SW pack an insanely powerful punch, even the small ones. So basically, your average X-wing is loaded with a dozen high yield nuclear warheads. And these are low yield "fighter" payloads.

The necessary components to facilitate stronger blasts don't take up that much space. That's why you'll see fighters of equal size, one will have four heavy laser cannons and the other will have four normal laser cannons. In truth, from all my knowledge, there isn't even really a difference at all. In fact, off the top of my head I can't think of any canon fighters that used "heavy" cannons, I believe that is actually something created by SW rp communities because they wanted stronger guns. In canon, pretty much every fighter, if not every fighter, uses just 'laser cannons', different makes and models with different stats, but ultimately just 'laser cannons' That's why I prefer not to specify these sort of things. Because one companies light laser cannon is another's heavy, it just depends on how they're designed.

And we're both saying we should stop cluttering the thread but now we're stuck in a discussion of SW tech lmao.

Firing rate of Heavy Laser Cannons reduced. Modular Ordnance Bay changed to Small Ordnance Bay (capable of housing a single bomb or mine). Firing capabilities reduced (the heavy laser cannons and ion repeaters can no longer fire together due to energy restrictions; the pilot must toggle between weapon systems). Speed changed back to 200 MGLT.

EDIT:

After reading Colt556's post, I've just decided to label them "laser cannons." He makes a good argument. It's pointless to debate something that matters so little. Laser cannons are laser cannons are laser cannons. These are as powerful as a ship of this size and make can handle. There's no reason to debate terminology.

I've also listed the "Light Ion Repeaters" as "Ion Repeaters." They're just low-power ion cannons that fire rapidly anyway.
