Alastair stood in the library of his sad, run down manor. He looked around the room, knowing every place of every book on every shelf. Furthermore knowing the contents of each book cover to cover.

He was getting bored. And...just feeling wrong.

He had sent a message to his friend Sythe, hoping that the enigmatic assassin got it and decided to come.

The message had been simple.

"The manor. We need to talk."

Now. With Sythe involved talking meant Alastair would vent and Sythe would grunt out a sentence here and there.

Just how the Vahla liked it.

Sythe walked up to the entrance to the manor.
The front door, he noticed, had finally been set right and now actually opened and shut properly. An improvement for sure.
He didn’t bother knocking, he wasn’t expected to, instead he just let himself in and headed through the hallway to the library where he knew Alastair would be.
As he entered the library, he found his friend staring at the books on the shelves.
“They read better if you open them.” he said as he walked to the couch and sat down. He wasn’t going to ask why he had been summoned, Alastair would tell him in due time.
He could wait.

Sythe entered with a slight quip about Alastair's looking at the books, perfectly in character. The sorcerer turned and looked at his friend as the assassin sat in his usual place on the well worn old couch. "Open or shut, it matters not when you've memorized all of them." he sighed as he sat in his armchair opposite the couch. This was going to be an odd talk, and Alastair expected it may come to blows after he divulged his revelations. He hoped not though.

"Sythe my friend. Do you ever feel...just, tired?"

Sythe studied his friend for a moment. He was being overly serious for some weird reason... "If you are tired, go to sleep." he said nonchalantly.
His response was more from wanting Alastair to "get to the point" and stop hemming and hawing. He knew if Alastair could, he would talk and talk which actually in a ironic sense... made Sythe tired.

Alastair chuckled at Sythe's snide remark. Anyone else would be dangling by their throat for speaking to him like that, but from his friend it was just another aspect of the man. The sorcerer doubted that the assassin could function without sarcasm.

"Alright alright. I'll get to the point. But you aren't going to like it," a grin spread across Alastair's face as he thought of a quip of his own. "Though since you seem to be incapable of liking anything the shouldn't be a problem"

Alastair took a deep breath and sighed, resuming his more serious demeanor. He needed to get this out, but it was going to be a hard conversation. "What if we're wrong? What if there is more than just this darkness?" he asked, bracing himself for the response he knew was coming.

Sythe paused for a moment. He wasn't sure what Alastair was referring to yet. The Dark Side was all they knew, it gave them their purpose, their drive, and their power. To look for something "more" would seem in his mind, treasonous.
But Alastair knew better right?
"What do you mean by more exactly?" he asked. "Isn't that why you have those books and why we are searching out artifacts? So that we would be... more?"
Surely that's what Alastair meant by stating there should be more. Maybe he had a mission in mind and he was just leading to it.

Alastair was silent for a couple of minutes, then he sighed and with a quick flick of his finger every book on every shelf practically jumped onto the floor. "Blast the kriffing books Sythe!" he said, loudly but not quite yelling. "And blast the artifacts. We haven't even found anything asside from this worthless puzzle of a ring." as he spoke he pulled the strange ring they found off of his finger and hurled it accross the room, whatever it was made of the ring shattered against the wall. In his uncharacteristic fit of rage he had unintentionally channeled the force into the throw.

He hadn't even noticed himself standing up, but he slowly lowered himself back into his chair. "I am...sorry. my friend. For once my anger got the better of me." he explained, his yellowed eyes nearly glowing as the rage and darkness coursed through him.

Alastair decided he might as well just come out with it at this point. "I mean what if there's more than just the dark side?"

Sythe smiled as Alastair let out a rare burst of anger. It wasn't normal for the usual calm and collected sorcerer to display the torment that was raging in his heart and Sythe took advantage of it.
He simply watched his friend lose his temper and answered in his usual "non-caring" tone. "You and I are pawns of the Dark Side. Nothing more, nothing less." He waved his hand as if pushing away a thought. "You don't get to decide anything else other than following its will. To do so would be to go against your very nature."

Sythe thought for a moment. Was his friend doubting his own purpose... what was with all this questioning. For him it was cut and dried... There was nothing more than the Dark Side... unless... His eyes fell upon his "friend". "Who have you been talking to? What lies has the accursed light side been putting into your mind?"

Alastair had known that this was how the conversation would go, but he still hadn't quite expected just how angry it would make Sythe. He hadn't even said that he had been tempted towards the light. "I have spoken to...people." he admitted, though he wouldd not utter the names of Naala or Horus to the assassin. Both for tveir sakes, and for his friend's. "And there have been no lies nor anything else put into my mind. To be honest I have been...curious...about the light for a long time." Alastair subtly pulled the force into himself and prepared to defend himself in case this caused his friend to fly off the handle.

"The Jedi once had thsir own order of assassins. I have read of this. Just think my friend, a new order of assassins. lead by you"

Sythe sat there for a moment. He could feel Alastair pulling the force around him... and so he did the same. He didn’t budge, yet, but he was prepared for anything that could possibly happen.
The worst part was that Alastair was talking about the light side... as if it was something even remotely in need of considering.
Then there was the thought of jedi assassins?? That pretty much ended the conversation in the Sith’s mind.
Instead he stood up slowly, making no move of aggression.
“I don’t need to hear this. It seems you have made your choice.”
He briefly thought about cutting his friend down and ending him right then and there. But something held him back. Something he couldn’t put his finger on. Perhaps respect for his now former friend. But deep inside, Sythe ended that as quickly as it came.
“You are a traitor and have become weak. Next time we meet, I will kill you.”
He spat on the floor in front of Alastair. Then he stepped away from the couch and headed for the door.
“I will find the ones who did this to you. Mark my words. Their lives are forfeit”
With that he turned and walked out of the house.
