DESCRIPTION​

Designed and built by Kuat Drive Yards, the Ton-Falk-class escort carrier allowed the Imperial Navy to overcome the hyperdrive deficiency of its primary starfighters in the early years of the Galactic Civil War. The need for them was seen following the Battle of Ton-Falk, and the craft was named for that pivotal battle.

Being purpose-built, escort carriers were much more economical to deploy than an Imperial Star Destroyer. Higher priority convoys often had an escort carrier, along with an EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate and CR90 corvettes.

It was also common for escort carriers to perform mini-hyperdrive jumps within a system, dropping off a squadron of starfighters with each exit. This tactic made it difficult for Rebel Alliance or pirate pilots to predict where the next attack would come from. In addition to the Empire, some ships were appropriated by the Rebel Alliance as well and added to their navy, leading to an increase in production runs by the Empire as their supply was taken from them in some places.

Primarily prized for it's fighter complement and mini-hyperdrive jumps, the Ton-Falk-class escort carrier was made in bulk by the Empire to help handle it's massive size. Because of these reasons, Ton-Falk-class escort carriers can still be found in the Galaxy two hundred years later as it still fills those niches rather well and there are still plenty of the carriers left over.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Ton-Falk-Class Escort Carriers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT​

To bring a canon carrier over to the site that can be used as a cheap alternative to many of the other carrier types currently on offer.

RESTRICTIONS​

Yes. Ton-Falk-Class Escort Carriers are large capital ships, therefore these that cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.
