Torker Okav

[/beebox3]

An aging member of the Sith Brotherhood, Torker served in the last war against the Republic and the Jedi and is more than willing to work against them in the current day and age as well, but from a more behind the scenes or political role, rather than going back out onto the front lines.

[beebox3=100%]Appearance[/beebox3]

Annoo-Dat PrimeMale163 years7'8'' (8' standing straight)255 PoundsDark Brownish-Red, gradually dulling and fading with ageRed and yellowPaleYes

While he has yet to reach the oldest that an Annoo-Dat normally can, Torker is beginning to show his age much more prominently than other members of his species, due to long-term abuse of the Force. His scales, originally a dark reddish-brown colour, perfect for blending in with the deserts of his homeworld Annoo, are gradually growing smoother, duller, and much more bereft of colour as he ages, the equivalent of a mammal's hair growing grey. He's also lost some of his height over the years as he found himself stooping over more, standing at 7 feet and 8 inches with his normal slouch these days. His teeth and claws, however, are as sharp as ever, and his eyes - turned red and yellow due to his corruption by the Dark Side - never miss a single small detail.

He can normally be found wearing a set of dark robes over his scaly hide, keeping hidden the prodigious musculature he still possesses; as well, while he often walks with a cane, this is more of an affectation than any requirement of his mobility. Lastly, his voice is distinctly reptillian, with sounds ranging from an extremely deep guttural growl to a menacing hiss to the whistling of a bird.

[beebox3=100%]Attributes[/beebox3]

[beebox3=75%]
Physical
[/beebox3]

As an Annoo-Dat, Torker has extremely prodigious strength, more than capable of going toe-to-toe with a Wookiee or a Gammorean, let alone any smaller species. He is also quite dextrous, able to move with a fair amount of speed and possessing highly honed fine motor control - although his claws do get in the way of various activities. However, unlike most Annoo-Dat, Torker's constitution has suffered due to his long association with the Dark Side. While his armoured hide grants him protection from physical blows and he is capable of working through his pain, his resistance to disease and his endurance have been gradually diminishing over time - not that he'd ever admit to it.

[beebox3=75%]
Mental
[/beebox3]

Though his abilities of body are still fairly prodigious, Torker shines most brightly in the fields of the mind; he has accumulated a large knowledge base in fields such as the Force, history, tactics, and others over the years, becoming quite intelligent as he has accrued the knowledge and determined how to use it. As well, he is very wise for all of this; his studies have taught him patience, his abilities as a hunter have taught him to pay close attention to detail, and his experiences have shown him the value of both of those and of many other things. Lastly, he is fairly charismatic, although it isn't shown quite often; as he can normally be found alone in study or in singular work with an apprentice or acolyte, many assume him to be quite reclusive - however, in the fields of politics and business, Torker has learned how to properly sway and manipulate various beings, and just how he has to comport himself to do so.

[beebox3=100%]Personality[/beebox3]

Relatively quiet on average, Torker is not one to mince words when engaged in anything other than some sort of political activity. Even when teaching, he often speaks with great brevity, expecting any students he has to pay close attention to what he tells them - should they not listen properly, then it'll be their own fault that they fail (and often die in) his tests, by his own estimation. He will also allow no disrespect, either to himself or those who he feels deserving of it - though his own ideals of respect and his own decision on who does and doesn't deserve it often serve to confuse others more than they enlighten them, should he explain it; as well, his punishments for disrespect often do not make themselves visible to the public eye.

He is generally a fairly cold being, fitting with the blood that runs through his veins. He cares little for the wants or emotions of other beings, preferring instead that they learn to control their emotional impulses and devote themselves to learning or to action benefitting the Brotherhood, whichever comes to them easiest. Should they prove incapable of putting themselves on such a path, Torker is not above taking matters into his own hands when it comes to motivating them.

Lastly, he seems to take an odd delight in both the pains and successes of himself and other beings, regardless of the subject of work that leads them into such trials and victories. The only topic in which this does not prove true is the pursuit of revenge - in such a case his instincts as a hunter kick in more strongly than anything else, and all that can be found within him is single-minded devotion towards the murder or humiliation of whoever he has targeted.

[beebox3=100%]Abilities and Skills[/beebox3]

[beebox3=75%]
The Force
[/beebox3]

As his age has progressed, Torker has developed a large familiarity with the various 'schools' of Force use, as he would describe them. This all, of course, stems from his deep attunement with the Dark Side, through which he draws the power to utilize his abilities; due to this, some applications are barred from him, such as various forms of healing and other techniques. However, he feels that the limitations are far inferior to the boons he gains.

He specializes in the fields of telekinetics and energy manipulation. His skills with each are quite varied; he isn't limited to such simple barbarous acts as crushing an animal to death or blasting an enemy to death with bolts of lightning. He has dexterity enough with his telekinesis to function with just as much control - some may say even more control - than he has over his own two hands, operating controls and writing implements quite easily, or being able to make minute changes in the wiring of a certain electronic component, if he knows its make well enough; when manipulating energy, he is capable of conjuring forth a flame, or drawing the heat out of a room, empowering mundane objects, or giving his own palms the ability to absorb or redirect blaster bolts or even lightsaber blades, given enough focus.

Possessing powerful predatory senses, it only follows that the Sense aspect of the Force would be the next most powerful for Torker. With the Force running through his body, he can sharpen his vision to pick out the most minute details, or his hearing, or his taste, or any other ability; and he can also notice other Force Sensitives...and in the reverse, conceal himself from them.

Mental Manipulation and Acrobatics have both been studied by the reptillian Sith, though he often doesn't use them. Acrobatics don't fit into his fighting style or in his normal needs of movement, so he rarely needs to practice it; however, he still does, just to ensure he remains well-rounded. Mental Manipulation, meanwhile, is a very useful field to study, especially for the realms of interrogation and persuasion. When needed, he has a light enough touch to ensure willing compliance from previously ambivalent subjects...or the ability to dominate and crush the mind of a hostile fool, if it is deemed necessary.

Torker is also capable of healing himself, drawing energy from a victim into himself as-needed for healing; owing to the natural inefficiency of this healing, and the lack of need he has for it, it's not often that he'll be found using it - only in emergencies. The same goes for both trances beyond simple meditation and affecting the status of another being.

The Lightsaber
[/beebox3]

Torker's primary study with the lightsaber has been with the third form of lightsaber combat, the highly defensive Soresu. While he has very prodigious strength, he's never been fond of using it for lightsaber combat, preferring instead to rely on his quickness to defend himself - his primary offensive capabilities come from his useage of the Force, or from exploiting the weaknesses his enemies will present. His view is that, as a hunter, you must never allow yourself to be harmed in the pursuit of your prey. As such, he has built up a powerful familiarity with the third form, while his knowledge of the other forms - beyond some of the basics of each, when first he was learning to use the blade and had yet to choose a form to study - is academic in nature.

[beebox3=75%]
The Mundane
[/beebox3]

Torker is a terrible shot with a blaster. The reason for this is that he refuses, out of hand, to ever practice with one - he can't stand them, viewing them only as weapons for the weak masses who are unattuned to the Force, and he will not hesitate to inform any Force-sensitive being he sees using one of just how disappointed he is in them. He is, however, an able shot with a bow and arrow, is well-practiced in staff fighting, and is very skilled in using his natural weapons - teeth and claws - in combat or in hunting.

He doesn't particularly care for computers, although he is still able to use them with an average degree of skill. He isn't a slicer by any means, but he isn't some backwater hick either. He does, however, prefer pen and paper. Or ink and parchment. Whichever combination of hand-written materials will work, really. He can also fluently speak (as well as read and write) in the following languages: Basic, Annoo-dat, Sith, Huttese, Twi'lek, and High Galactic.

Most sentients would say that Torker is not a good cook. The reson for this is that he eats his meat raw, and generally quite fresh. He just doesn't cook at all. Anybody asking him to cook should really just smack themselves for making such a silly request.

[beebox3=100%]Strengths and Weaknesses[/beebox3]

Torker's greatest strengths lie in his mind and body. He has a powerful intellect, and an intuitive (as well as well-honed) grasp of the Force and its use, as well as the ability to teach it to others, if he should choose. Regarding his body, he is still very strong for his age, and fairly healthy - the decline hasn't hit him so hard as he makes it appear to have. His senses are just as strong as ever, and he is a very able hunter.

However, he is not particularly charismatic; he is primarily a loner in everything he does. He has few allies, and even fewer friends; while he does not often view this as any sort of hindrance, should he make any powerful enemies, there are a myriad of ways it could become so. As well, his options in ranged combat are fairly limited, given his primary focus on the Force and melee combat.

[beebox3=100%]Inventory[/beebox3]

Torker isn't particularly materialistic, and as such is more or less bereft of possessions. He has multiple sets of simple robes, and generally doesn't bother with wearing armour - he feels that he is more than skilled enough with his blade than to need any armour. He has a datapad, a computer in his abode on Dromund Kaas, separated a little ways from the main body of the Sith on Korriban. He also has a ship, an Alabaster Escort Freighter, that he has had funished to essentially be, not just a home-away-from-home, but also an addon to his own home, given how he has made a miniature dock next to his home and has a docking tube that connects his home proper to his ship, functioning as nothing more than a hallway in that instance (as well, the ship is actually, in multiple ways, better furnished than his home, with a workbench, a full computer system, a proper kitchen [due to how Torker normally has guests/students with him on the ship rather than at his home], a full training room, and generally better beds and comfortware).

For his weaponry, he carries two lightsabers - the first is his primary weapon, and it is a lightsaber with a mildly curved hilt. The distinguishing feature about it is that it has quillons extending from near the emitter to guard both of his hands when it is in use, taking on a three-bar form similar to that of many primitive swords; the blade is a standard dark red, and the hilt is primarily a dull, gunmetal grey in colouration with some small rubberized sections to provide Torker with a better grip.

His other lightsaber is in the form of his cane - his cane is primarily constructed of phrik with a very small overlay of wooden material. The head of the cane is a simple phrik ball that fits into his palm, and is also weighted with neuranium to provide a simple club; the ferrule of the cane, meanwhile, is the concealed emitter for his lightsaber, the rubberized coating over the metal emitter burning away as soon as the weapon is activated. The outer shell of the weapon - made of phrik - is entirely one piece, from emitter up to where the knob connects; to activate the weapon, Torker simply has to twist the grip a quarter-turn clockwise. The blade of this lightsaber is, unlike the first, a dark greyish-silver colour.

[beebox3=100%]Biography[/beebox3]

Born during the final decades of the old wars, Torker Okav was the son to expatriated slaves in the Sith Empire of the time; his earliest memories are of having lived in squalor, being made to work just as soon as he could walk, as well as learning the skills of hunting he would need to survive with the meager rations his family received. It wasn't long, however, until his Force-Sensitive nature was noticed. His price was paid from one of the ruling Sith to another, and Torker was to be taken from his family, who unfortunately tried to resist his theft out of their familial affection for him. The Sith who took him ended up paying for them as well.

His new Sith master was a being who, in some respects, was similar to himself - he was a reptile, a hunter, a fierce warrior, and a former slave himself. This Sith was the Draethos "Lord" (Torker finds that he wasn't worthy of the title, either from the old empire or the new brotherhood, given that he fell to Torker's blade long ago) Sathos Okav, who gave Torker the surname that the Annoo-dat carries today. His methods for teaching Torker the useage of the Force were oftentimes brutal; Sathos held the view that in order to properly learn a power or a skill, the trainee had to experience it first-hand. As well, hunts and fights were the norm between the two, and very rarely was it that they worked together, even from the time when Torker was taken at the age of 2.

This process of training from a time early in Torker's memory gradually transformed him from a young and trusting Annoo-dat into a hardened and cautious warrior. Hatred and paranoia were drilled into his skull over time, and as he grew he became more able to resist the savage teachings of his master, and to keep up with the ancient Draethos in a hunt - and eventually, he became capable of fighting back and beating his master to the prize kill. At the age of twelve he received the honour of being named Sathos's official apprentice, rather than just his prepubescent monster of a plaything. As of this time, Torker's thoughts drifted more and more to the immediate target of his rage, who was the master who trained him currently - and in his mind, stunted his growth.

When not engaged in the physical studies and bladework that his master made him do, Torker found himself dissatisfied in his progression in the Force. Sathos had taught him the basics, but Torker wished to know more. He would often consult the archives of the temple he and his master resided in, or his own master's (sparse) library; he would find other teachers, in secret, who could help him grow in his understandings of the metaphysical. He ignored the fact that they were all using him as a tool to get to his master and gain power for themselves, for the time being - he had other plans for them.

After five more years of this training he was given his final task of training from his master: using any abilities at his disposal, brave the deserts of the world Daminia, find himself a lightsaber crystal on the planet, construct a lightsaber, and make his way back to Korriban. The inhospitably barren planet nearly managed to claim Torker's life, but his force of will - and the skills he had developed - saw him through until he managed to both carve himself a crystal from the planet's crust and make it to an inhabited settlement where he could recuperate. Finding the necessary parts to build a lightsaber in the spaceport there wasn't particularly difficult, and this was when he constructed the red-bladed weapon he bears now. After the few months he spent on Daminia, it took him nearly the entire rest of the standard year to gain passage back to Korriban, via odd jobs done to pay his way to the next planet he was able to reach, or the odd attempts at intimidation, persuasion, and in a couple instances, murder in order to ensure that his presence as a stowaway on a certain ship wouldn't be reported to port authorities.

Purposefully taking the roundabout trip, he spent the entire time formulating his plans as for how to depose his master. Once he finally made his way back to Korriban - narrowly escaping from a ship then full of the decomposing bodies of a group of slavers who had thought themselves able to take him and sell him to the Sith - he regained entry to the temple, and quickly made his way to his master's quarters. The elderly Draethos never slept, and he knew that Torker had arrived on the planet as soon as the Annoo-dat's scaly foot touched the sandy ground. Maintaining the appearance of humility he had presented to his master for all the years beforehand, Torker presented the lightsaber he had created, allowing Sathos to look it over. The following morning, Torker was found resting peacefully in Sathos's chambers, while the elderly Draethos lie exsanguinated on the floor, throat ripped open from skin to trachea, the bold young Annoo-dat who killed him having pronounced himself a Sith on that day.

After that he took immediately to the battlefields of war, his skills as both a hunter and a warrior serving the Sith well. During this time he made more targets for his own revenge, both on the side of the enemy and that of his supposed allies; he felt just as satisfied knowing they died in battle as if they died of his own hand, though there were some targets he knew would not die by any hand except his own. As the Jedi and the Republic weathered through the decades of war and pushed the Sith all the way back to Korriban and Moraband, many in the Empire came to recognize the values of stealth and survival. Torker, long since taught to utilize these skills - as well as his own instinctual abilities as a hunter - managed to catch up to the teachers who had thought to use him as the instrument of their own petty attacks on his master. Over the course of a decade, he caught up to each of them, murdering them much the same as he had his original master. And much as with his original master, he claimed all of their belongings - especially all of their writings and their libraries - as his own, using them to expand further on his knowledge. As his time in hiding and study later passed, his rage and hatred transformed into a cool and arrogant disdain for all beings he perceives as lesser than him, and a quiet determination to surpass all others - all in due time, however, for while he would not be as long-lived as his master was, he would have the longevity to outlast the majority of his rivals.

Eventually he came to join the nascent Sith Brotherhood, offering his services as a veteran and a teacher to them. He was readily accepted, and his since come to witness its rise back into power, its re-recruitment of the Sacred Band, and now, the war it is waging - again - against the Jedi and the Republic. While he has yet to return to the field of battle, he often helps to prepare those who are going to it...because if they're strong enough to survive through the rigors he will give them, then they will surely survive a fight against any coddled Jedi.
