The Chancellors announcement had sent many ripples across the galaxy, and threatened to cause a rift between the Jedi and the Republic. While not allies, they had been in past, and for a long period it seemed relations had slowly grown stronger. Joint operations, diplomatic teams, Vollen's own work as part of the Alderaan Investigation or the late Jon Atreides putting his life on the line for the former Chancellor.

So much had been going right. Why had it all fallen so quickly? So suddenly?

Vollen, and the Jedi, couldn't be sure yet what had caused this, or even if it was a feeling shared by the whole Republic. He wanted to remain optimistic, for without even the at times strained but mending relationship of the Republic the Order was without many allies now, and so too was the Republic. Perfect pickings for growing Empires and criminal elements to make their presence felt even more. And that was something he worried of daily.

It was then with some hesitance he contacted a member of the Senate he had cooperated with previously on Vaykaaris, one Primula Peyvand. Perhaps she could shed more light on the situation, and at the very least Vollen could share his thoughts with a member of the Senate, explain what he could if this was to come into effect. Perhaps there might still be a chance to fix this,

"Senator, Master Vollen Shai, I'm sure you've heard the announcement" his voice was grave as it buzzed through a secure channel, though in his mind he remained hopeful. He had to, in spite of it all. He had seen too much to let it go now.

Primula sat in her office, her face in her hands. The holonet was alive with conspiracy theories and accusations being hurled against everyone that was in the political scene of the republic. She tried to raise concerns with the chancellor, but had been largely ignored by the other members of the Senate hall. With senators dying at the hands of criminals, and now the Jedi being ostracized, she could feel the wolves breathing down her neck. The democracy and republic she had spent years serving, was slowly crumbling, and she felt like there was nothing she could do. Well besides continue her efforts of fortifying Taanab further of course.

It was then a certain message appeared on her desk holo projector. Unlike the numerous others, this was a private channell, and she had an idea who was sending it. Pressing the accept button the holo projector flashed to life in front of her and showed the gentle face, albeit as stressed as she had ever seen, of Vollen.

I have Master Shai. I can't tell you how sorry I am. I'm looking into the proper channels, anything I can find in our legislation or constitution that might ratify this problem, but I fear it might be already to late for that.

Are you safe? Is there any dialogue between the Jedi and the chancellor's office? Sorry I don't mean to 9verload you with questions at a time like this, I'm just concerned about both you and the future of our factions, I fear that the Sith may be behind this newest declaration, though I have no proof. I'm sure you can understand that 'bad feeling better than most right?

She said, giving her best soft smile to him. She really was concerned, but for now, she hoped that she could at least get a smile as well out of the man. She held him in extremely high regard and couldn't bring herself to see him so grim.

That the Senator took his call meant Vollen could breath, it was nary the first one he'd taken properly since viewing the announcement over his ships holo-comm. That she seemed about as distraught by the sudden change in policy was comforting. Well, as comforting as anything could be in such times. But he sensed an ally either way,

"No, no Senator, nothing for you to be sorry about. That you're just as shaken as I am is enough to ease my worries for the time being. I can only hope you're not the only one who shares such feelings and intuitions though" he replied softly, his voice easing a little as he listened to her response. For now at least, he could talk a little more freely. The encrypted channel certainly didn't hurt that either,

"For now I'm safe, though a number of my Order have had bounties placed on them by the Republic, and I fear there might be more to come. As for dialogue, well, for now it seems we have been labelled enemies of the Republic. Not a title I'd expected to hold in my lifetime I have to say. For now the Council are still working on our own response before contacting the Chancellor, if we should do at all. This call to you is a personal one" he finished with a smile. The Senator was kind one, and if he'd had any doubt of that her immediate concern as he'd called was the confirmation he'd needed. There were more like her, he was sure, and perhaps together there would be a way to change this,

"As for the Sith, yes I fear that too. From what I understood much was banked on Chancellor Deryck being a harder man that the former Chancellor. Whether that was the right or just choice it is not my place, but this announcement does fill me with... surprise, to say the least from what I'd understood of his character" Vollen looked down into the cockpit as the last words trailed out of his mouth. If the Chancellor had fallen to the whims or threats of the Sith, then this whole thing may be little more than appeasement. And it was becoming clearer to Vollen that the Sith were not at all as open to dialogue as they claimed to be. Force, what was the galaxy coming to?

"What about some of your colleagues? Do they share your feelings on any of this? I can't imagine the Senate, no matter their feelings on the matter, would be okay with the Chancellors going over their heads like this"
