The morning sun had just begun to rise over the Jedi Temple grounds and it looked to be a beautiful day. Tynian, the young Ysanna Jedi Knight stood at the edge of the Jedi training circle. He was already dressed in his deep blue armor and was patiently waiting the ones who would be coming.
This day was going to be the beginning of a series of training days for Tynian as he had asked four Jedi Knights to come, take time out of their schedules, and train him in different lightsaber forms.

His former master and now father Kane was slated to be first. Tynian knew most of what the older Jedi knew, but the Ysanna always felt there was more for him to learn from the Sentinel. This was his chance to do so.

Was he nervous? A bit. The word would be more appropriately "apprehensive" as his excitement in the possibilities of learning and growing was a bit more evident this morning.
He used the force to bring a bit of peace to his beating heart and overthinking mind... Then one by one, the individuals set to train him, began to arrive.

It wasn't a surprise that Tynian didn't notice her presence there. She'd been meditating all night, perched just outside the training grounds. The forested area provided a wonderful place to relax and contemplate, and she barely slept these days anyway. His presence, however, made her sigh gently. It was morning now, if the glare that ran across the temple was any indication, and the young Knight was on time. That was a good start. Aliyah groggily rose to her feet and started walking away from her little nook and closer to the circle. She wiped the underneath of her eyes and blinked a few times, her robes covering her entire body and silhouetting against the trees. She couldn't see the others yet, but that was normal, most people didn't stay outside all night.

This would be the first time she ever actually taught. She'd sparred with people before, given them a few pointers, showed them and had them learn by doing. But she'd never actually taught another Jedi before, not really. This would also be the first time she stood as a Jedi Knight without her own father, and in a way she was determined to do for Tynian what Venatus had done for her. She'd be channeling him a lot today, the way he taught, the gruff mannerisms and harsh criticism. If the Knight wanted to learn how to fight, then he would be taught how to win, and she'd teach him with the same mentality. By the time she hit the outside of the circle, he'd be able to see her, and she pulled down her hood.

She wore run of the mill Jedi dueling armor, that was covered by her brown robes. Minimal protection, maximum mobility, a scout's best friend. Her Outrider was left inside the Riverboat Fantasy, no need to bring it today. But, as usual, her blue paired lightsabers were on her belt and ready to be unclipped at the blink of an eye.

"Hey. Mmmh. Think they'll be long?"

"Not too long" Vollen called out as he entered the clearing, trudging across the stone and sand as he came through the deserts of Jedha to the grounds. It was early, and he still didn't sleep well on Jedha, or planetside in general really. But, there was no use being grumpy about it, and the crisp air and fresh sun of Jedha kept a smile on his face either way, despite the memories he faced here. And he'd been trying to put time into practicing his skills with a blade more in recent days then before, readying himself and bettering himself, it was enough to keep him focused away from the heavier thoughts that plagued him to be back here,

"Though I'll keep an eye out for this first one, see what I've let myself get into" he offered with a smirk. It was a strange gathering, though, all ready here to teach one. But they were not ones to deny the request, and perhaps would all learn from eachother. Force knew he had plenty to pick up himself.

For his part, Vollen took up a space by the edge of the ground and placed his hands before him, keeping a keen eye on the sparring circle.

It would be time to learn, for all of them.

Kane entered the training circle and nodded in greeting to Master Shai, he did not know the other Jedi who had agreed to help teach his son personally but he was sure she would be just like her father.

He smiled in greetimg to his son as well, walking to the center of the circle and clapping the young man on the shoulder.

"Good morning everyone. Are we all here?"

He took off his outer robe and tossed it to the side of the training ring, Tynian had asked him to go first and he was prepared. Wearing his armor and lightsaber, his vibro-claws left behind. This was lightsaber training, his claws had no place in it.

Tynian looked up when the Jedi began arriving. As they cane one by one he politely bowed to each followed by a friendly smile.
Each Jedi that had come, he knew would be key in helping his skills develop, so he wanted to be as friendly as possible.
“First, I’d like to thank you all for coming. As you know, my goal is to hone my lightsaber skills and as much as I have studied, I have found I cannot do this alone. That’s where you all come in. Each of you have proven yourselves in combat time and time again, and I would like to glean from your experience and wisdom as much as I possibly can.”
He took off his cloak and laid it aside revealing his deep blue armor. Then he looked at them all again. “Kane will go first. But please feel free to watch and make suggestions as we go.”
He unhooked his double bladed lightsaber from his belt. “Oh, and please make your lightsabers non-lethal... I really don’t want to die today.”
He stepped into the circle, faced Kane, activated the white blades on his lightsaber and smiled. “Shall we begin Father?”

Yep, I do remember that nickname. Also, changing up my writing style, if it looks off that's why.

A wry smile crossed her lips as she heard Vollen's voice. She looked around for a second and realized it must have been her meditation. There were no trees. She wasn't on Tython. She was on Jedha. Aliyah took a moment, looking down for a second and rubbing her eyes. No, definitely Jedha.

"Better be watching out. I hear he was trained by Knight Hardass."

Giggling slightly at her own stupid joke, she turned around to see Kane walking towards them too. This was an interesting group of people, and she was a little excited to see what these sparring matches would bring out. Everyone had their own style of combat, she knew that from watching her own evolve past her father's. A chance to see these things in person was really cool to her, and she could learn a lot about them as a person just by watching and waiting. It was true what she'd been told, sometimes fighting brought out the most honest look at a person, and who they really are. Her own style of teaching would probably start with questions about the basics, but she wanted to see how the others taught first.

As Kane entered the circle, Aliyah looked around slightly, pausing, yawning. "Good Morning. Well, we seem to be missing Master Zeerda. Probably busy with some Council business."

Or wondering why we decided Jedha was the place to train. The Academy on Tython would've been safer...

She pushed the thoughts out of her head. There were more than enough Jedi here to deal with anything that showed up uninvited. Besides, safe didn't always mean a good thing, a little danger was good for the soul. Tynian started off by thanking all of them for coming, and she let him finish before she decided to say anything. Aliyah realized how unbelievably strange it must be for her to call Venatus her father, even though they came from separate species. Now, she did, she had no idea that Kane had adopted the boy. She approved, personally, everyone should have parental figures in their life and it almost always helps. Well, it helped her at least. Venatus may not have been the best Jedi in the Galaxy, but teaching her how to be a good person was more than enough in her book. Especially considering that she'd never actually had parents around, or anything close to that up until he came along.

"No problem. Surprised I was asked, actually, but I'm glad to be here.

No, we're going to cut off your legs and then throw you in lava. Obviously the sabers will be on stun..."
She looked around at the group for a second, "...right?"

Kane smiled at the assembled Jedi, it was a little sad to be here on Jedha again after the Empire had destroyed their home. They would rebuild, and though sjch thoughts were discouraged by their ways, the Jedi WOULD have their revenge.

He chuckled slightly at Aliyah's joke, Tynian had been trained hearing all manner of sarcastic quips from the old Jedi -Knight Hardass as some called him- and it was refreshing to see other Jedi with the same sense of humor.

"Well I am sure master Zeerda won't mind us getting things started without him."

Kane said as he took his saber from his belt, making sure to set it to non-lethal before taking several paces away from his son and activating the yellow blade with a familliar snap-hiss.

"When you are ready my boy, I will give you a focused lesson in Ataru."

Now, Kane really couldn't promise that he wouldn't throw in a few Makashi moves, he had been combining the two forms for longer than his son had been alive after all. With a wry grin the old man opened himself to the force, allowing it to flow through his body in preparation for the match.

Tynian nodded at Aliyah’s question. “Yes, on stun please.”
He then took his own lightsaber, sry it to non-lethal and then activated the white blades as he faced his father.
“I am ready to learn whatever you have to teach me Father.”

Kane smirked as he twirled his saber from side to side, limbering up for a moment before beginning.

He started fast, rushing in with force assisted speed before leaping high over Tynian and landing behind him. Crouching low and spinning as he struck towards his son's calves.

After his strike he would back off and pause, keeping in a defensive stance but with the posturing to make it clear he wanted to speak.

"Ataru is the art of allowing the force to flow through you as you fight, enhancing your speed and strength while allowing you to perform great acrobatic feats."

Tynian moved his lightsaber behind him vertically to block the attack by Kane. He knew that move, since Kane had tried it on him several times in the past when they had sparred together.
He spun to face his father and stepped back as Kane explained Ataru.
“So what is the extent that someone can do with the acrobatics? Can we fly? And how long do the effects of the force last?”
His questions poured out of his mouth, as usual, before he could stop them.

Kane chuckled slightly, not dropping his guard but happy that his son and former apprentice was so eager to learn every scrap of knowledge he could get his hands on.

"I have not known of any Jedi that could fly, though if you decide to try it do keep low.

As for how long the effects last, that depends on the person using them. You could -theoretically- keep it going forever if you had the stamina, most however do not have that kind of strength. I personally can keep it going for a decent amount of time provided i only use it for the physical enhancments and don't get fancy with pushing, pulling and blasting.
"

Kane did a flourish and assumed a defensive position, crouching low and holding his blade diagonally out and up from his waist in a middle guard.

"Now you try, let the force flow through you and attack!"

Tynian nodded. He understood the basics of what Kane was saying because he was trained by Kane. But the fine tuning is what he needed... so he used the force to run the jump over Kane’s head and attack him from behind like his father had just demonstrated.
The run worked... the jump worked... sort of.
As he came down, he actually landed right in front of Kane instead of behind him. Tynian looked down at his feet then at his father and shrugged. “I meant to do that?” Then he swung his lightsaber in a very weak and awkward attack.
Knowing he messed up, he jumped backwards and moved his blades to try to block what he knew was coming, as well as brace himself for the incoming pain...

Kane chuckled as he batted away Tynian's awkward attack, quickly rushing in after his son's retreat and making a jab at his left side before bringing his saber around in a a quick circle to strike at Tynian's right shoulder.

"It does take practice."

He chuckled as he dashed back and brought his saber up to defend.

The jab to Tynian’s left side hit its mark. It stung upon contact, but Tynian was pleasantly surprised that his armor absorbed most of the hit...
The young Jedi still berated himself inwardly for leaving himself open for a hit like that.
He then stepped back to avoid the strike to his shoulder and then moved back in for a counter.
Calling upon the force he moved forward at Kane as if he was going to jump again, but this time at the last moment, he dropped to the ground on both knees, skidding and sweeping at the older Jedi’s legs. He hoped the force would propel him past Kane, then once the older Jedi was down, Tynian would then stand up and attack him from behind...

Kane grinned as Tynian shook off the attack and charged, glad to see that nothing would deter his son from trying over and over until he got it. But as he moved to block what he expected to be a high strike Tynian reminded the old Crusader of one of the first lessons he had ever taught the young Jedi, feints.

Kane's jaw actually dropped as Tynian hit his knees and began to skid, passing the older Jedi in a flash. Then came the shock, and Kane went down hard. Letting out a grunt of shock and pain as he hit the hard ground.

He got up to his knees as quickly as he could and held up his hand to indicate that Tynian should stop.

"I yeild! I yeald. Well done my boy."

Somehow Tynian’s move worked and sent Kane off his feet and onto his back. As he came in to attack the older Jedi, Kane got to his knees and held up his hands as he yielded...
Tynian reactively stopped his swing at Kane so he wouldn’t hit the Jedi...and then in one fluid motion, stepped back while deactivating his lightsaber.

Tynian had felt the force even more during the last part of the sparring match, and was very happy on how it responded in making him faster and more agile. It would definitely come in handy in the future, so he committed that to memory.

As he hung his weapon on his belt, he held out his right hand to Kane, to help him to his feet.
Once Kane was standing, Tynian gave him a smile and a respectful bow. The words “Well done” echoed in his mind and resonated in his soul. Those words from Kane were far more valuable than words could have expressed. “Thank you Father.”

He then turned and looked at the other Jedi around the training circle and asked. “So are there any suggestions on how I did? What could I have done differently or improve upon?”
He did want to improve and any and all suggestions were welcome, so he waited for their responses.

Watching the short spar from the sidelines, Vollen took in the attacks of both Jedi, seeing them leap and skid, block and break to find openings in eachothers moveset. As it was with Ataru both moved in flashes, only with the force at his side was he able to keep up with it. His eyes flicked between the two combatants before Kane yielded, quickly perhaps, though from the outside there was only so much one was able to tell at times.

Though as the pair bowed and completed their combat, Vollen rose from the stone upon which he sat, and went to address Tynian's question,

"Certainly a good start, using such speed can make you move faster than your enemies can hit, faster than they can follow, its part of the form" Vollen began, running over the fight in his mind, picking out a few key moments, extrapolating what he could,

"Do be sure to use that, focus on attacking where your opponent isn't. With your speed launch attacks quickly so they can't respond in time, or where will open them up for another attack. You can't plan a whole fight in your head, but you can't wing every move. Though I'm sure you know that" he added, these were general tips to any combat form, but ataru was a good grounding to drill them with,

"And while your speed gives you an edge, I would avoid jumping and acrobatics too much where it won't throw off your enemy somehow, otherwise it can open you up too easily. Short, sharp, direct moves are key. Especially with such speed" Vollen concluded with a smile. A play by play of the fight wasn't necessary. But they were notes that seemed relevant from what he saw. Looking to the others present he wondered if any others would have thoughts for the Knight.

Tynian thought about what Master Vollen was saying and it made sense. But he did have one question that came out his mouth before he could stop it. “So with a double bladed lightsaber, how can I make my moves shorter and more direct?”

She watched the fight, breathing calmly, without saying a word. It was quick and ended just as quickly, but that's how most fights should go. The longer they drag on, the more tired you become, you miss details. Someone can slip in an attack and you find yourself losing to chance instead of skill. There was also something else she noticed, though she doubted Tynian would do it in an actual fight, she wouldn't be a very good teacher not to mention it. "Something you already know, and Vollen already mentioned... Ataru is the most acrobatic and athletic of all forms. There's two things I noticed during that spar that I liked, and two pointers I'm going to give you."

Pausing, she remembered her own mistakes when using Ataru. Airborne attacks, and not using it for it's intended purpose. Luckily she learned those lessons early on and hasn't used them since. "Ataru is also great for using martial attacks too. Using your lightsaber to riposte or parry, a punch or palm to the chest or lower body can be unexpected. Only do it when you control their weapon, and make it fast and guarded. The Force can also really help with Ataru, using it to boost your speed, but maintain control of your saber at all times. You have the explosion of attacks down, but you're forgetting what makes that saber-staff so deadly. You can block with one end while attacking with the other at the same time, you can lock a single saber down pretty easily, and you'll have the easiest time ending a fight quickly with a surprise attack."

She could elaborate more on what she meant, but he'd need to fight her to see what she meant. She also channeled a lot of Ataru into her lightsaber fighting style, but usually only when fighting multiple people. It gives her the speed and stamina to basically stand toe to toe against someone a lot stronger than her, using their sluggish attacks to her advantage. But relying only on Ataru for a long amount of time can exhaust someone really quickly, especially if you start throwing force attacks into the mix, which your enemy most definitely will. That's where Soresu and Makashi compliment the style so well, fast striking speed with just as razor sharp defenses. The ability to counter, parry and block anything your opponent throws at you, disengage if it's too much or simply deflect the weapon aside and control it in battle. Brutes can make her style dangerous though, and Aliyah was kind of hoping Tynian would try heavy or awkward strikes against some of the Masters here.

"All of that is fine until you fight someone who knows how to counter your attacks or use them against you. Remember, every swing can be an attack and a parry. Don't swing at your opponent, swing as though you're cutting through them..." her arms moved in a mock swing for a second to show what she meant, passing through the imaginary opponent, "...don't even bother to throw a weak attack, save that energy to block or move to a better angle, and if their defense is stronger than yours, aim for the handle."

Tynian listened to the advice of the other Jedi present. Aliyah was the last to speak, and coincidently it would be her turn to teach Tynian next.

This was proving to be a very good day for training.
