Kad'tal and Graves were outside the home of the elder. It has been three monthes since their meeting outside the bar. Today Graves is going to teach the rash young boy some discipline.
"What am I learning today Graves?" Kad'tal said to the older man.

Graves grimaced. The kid was, well just that, a kid. Sometimes he just wanted to beat the little kark bloody, yelling "That's your lesson, come back in four years." But he didn't actually want to hurt the kid, he just wanted him to be an adult already.

That just wasn't possible and he had made a promise that he would protect and train the kid. "Discipline, plain and simple." said Graves. "We will be doing a few other exercises, such as marksmanship, but remember at the core of each drill is discipline. We aren't going to examine how well you shoot or how high you can jump, that will come later. Today we will look at how well you listen, how well you follow orders, and most importantly how well you react under pressure."

"Discipline" Kad'tal rolled his eyes at the saying. It was going to be a long day. But he knew he would need it. It was just the thought of the process made him sigh.
"Ok, Graves I am ready." He said to the man towering above him.

Graves saw the kids eyes roll and felt anger bubble up inside him. He didn't act on it.

"Begin by cleaning these slugthrowers." Graves said throwing a pair of old worn down rippers. He had gotten them a year or so back and hand't had the time to restore them yet. "I'll clean mine with you so you can learn how to do it. Then I want you to clean yours until they shine like mine."

Graves hands move dexterously as he disasebled his guns, he knew every inch of them inside and out. They were his way of calming himself, they gave him discipline.

Kad'tal caught the rippers thrown to him. And watched as Graves took apart and started doing the same with the ones in his hand. "You think that these ones will look as good as those" he said as he pointed with greasy hands from the rippers.

"Take care of them and they will." Said Graves.

He showed the young boy each step of the process and then did it again with him. Cleaning his own guns had become so ingrained in him that he had to make each action slow and extremely obvious to the young mando.

After the second cleaning Graves say back in his chair and started to roll a cigarette the. "Again." He saidto the boy.

Kad'tal was cleaning his rippers again and watching intently how to do so. "Again" Graves said when he was finished. So the boy started taking apart the slugthrowers once more. He had a feeling he would be putting together, taking apart, and cleaning a lot today. Kad'tal was right. And he had stopped counting at the tenth time.

They boy was good, he was getting the hang of it quickly. But they real question remained what happened to all that knowledge when he was tired? Where did his discipline go?

"That's enough." Graves told the boy. "Time for some exersise. I know I'm tired of sitting around. Let's go." Graves started jogging out of the room heading for the outside when he turned around. "Your not going to leave your new guns behind are you?" Be said with a boarder line evil smile. The kid didn't have holsters for them.

Kad'tal grabbed his guns and started for the door. He didn't have anywhere to put them so he held onto them. And followed Graves out the door. "Where do you want to go to?" He said to the man.

"Don't ask silly questions, I won't play silly games." Graves called back to the boy. "Just follow me, I could use a good run myself." The pair ran out onto the fields of the Proving Grounds. Mandos were all around them. Some tested their skills in hand to hand combat, others used vibroblades and a more were honeing their marksmanship.

Graves led Kad'tal in a large sweep around around the permiter. He led him around a second time. Then stopped by an obervation bench. "You are to keep running. I have placed four objects here that do not belong, you will run until you find them. Also I timed the first two laps, slow down by more than 45 seconds and you will find yourself running all night. Go."

Kad'tal kept running and started to look for the out of place items. He was keeping an eye out for things. First lap was done and he thought he found at least one. But he kept running to look for more and to confirm for himself. He came around the second time. "Well I saw a lightsaber over there and an old trooper helmet on only one of the training dummies, one of the dummies on the other side has jedi robes, and that bench you are on was moved five feet. I think that's all of them?" Kad'tal said to Graves. Hoping that was correct.

"Excellent work, thats all of them." Graves said. "Now the guns again." The day continued in much the same way, Graves was proud of the young Protectors skill and even more proud of his willingness to learn. He would make a good Protector one day, Graves was sure of it.
