OOC: Open to all Jedi, or anyone with reason to be on Yavin IV

swihartc-yavin-temple-1-dc010e5c-tx1l.jpg

Yavin reminded Wilvick Aureud of his home, quite a bit.

He'd grown up on lush green plains, with a beautiful blue sky overhead. Dantooine had been about as tranquil as a Jedi world could get, until it wasn't. His home had been upon plains, not within forests, but he felt at peace here all the same. The foliage was different, but the gorgeous greenery was enough to sate his nostalgia for home. Yavin was not Dantooine, but it was good enough for Wilvick.

The young Jedi Knight had escaped the halls of the Yavin temple for now, opting to meditate silently on a small rock, still within view of the grand structure that the Jedi called home. He was dressed simply: a brown tunic, pants, and boots, as well as a robe of the same color. His lightsaber hung from his hip, in plain view, while his master's lightsaber- no, his second lightsaber -was obscured by the brown cloth draped over his shoulders, as it was secured to the back of his belt.

Wilvick was attempting to center himself, something that really wasn't all that difficult for him, even in these chaotic days. Yet today, it seemed a harder task: he couldn't help but feel that, very shortly, he was going to meet someone important. He wasn't sure what that meant, but it seemed an apt description for the lingering sensation in the back of his mind. Perhaps he was imagining such a thing, or perhaps the Force truly moved in mysterious ways.

Either way, he was content to wait and see.

Tiberius had not been back on Yavin IV long. It was just last week that he had returned from Ithor where he had a run in with the sith that almost cost him his legs, but that was a story for another time. Today, he was enjoying the little bit of down time that he had. He had spent his morning training and meditating inside the temple.

After an early lunch Tiberius decided to take a little walk around the temple grounds. There was a narrow path that lead around the perimeter of the temple through the jungle. Tiberius started down this path. The dense trees towered over him. He looked up and inspected the canopy above. It was a deep green with small rays of light breaking through.

The trees, although much bigger than those of his childhood, reminded the jedi knight of his home world of Dantooine where his parents were sap farmers. His home sat on the edge of where the forest and plain met. He was reminded of how he and his brother used to play among the trees. But that life was far away now. Even if he wanted to it would be difficult to return to Dantooine as it was now under sith control.

Coming back to reality Tiberius noticed that the path had lead him to another Jedi. Tiberius paused. It appeared that his fellow Jedi was attempting to meditate… or take a nap, it was hard to tell the difference sometimes. Either way, Tiberius didn’t want to interrupt the other Jedi. He slowly and quietly attempted to turn around without making too much noise. As luck would have it though Tiberius mistakenly stepped on a twig which made a surprisingly loud cracking sound.

A twig snapped, and Wilvick opened a lazy eye. In front of him, he beheld a cohort of his: looking roughly the same age, if maybe a little older. It looked as though the man had been trying not to bother him, but Wilvick didn't find himself annoyed at the intrusion in the slightest. The Jedi Knight offered the newcomer a small smile, and a nod of his head.

"Good afternoon. To whom do I owe this pleasure?"

Wilvick untangled his legs, and let his booted feet rest on the ground. There was no such thing as too much meditation, at least not to him, but there was nothing wrong with a small interruption. The truth of the matter was that the young Jedi Knight didn't know many of his fellow Jedi, at least not here, on Yavin IV.

Those he had known... well, the loss of the Dantooine temple echoed inside him, as he was sure it did for all Jedi. But they were one with the Force now, and the time to grieve was two years passed. All there was to do now, was to go on with their lives, and fulfill their duties as the protectors of peace.

Tiberius had turned to walk in the opposite direction without saying a word. But when he heard the voice of his fellow Jedi he stopped and turned back around to face the source of the voice. “Hello,” Tiberius began with a slight nod of his head. “Sorry for the interruption.”

The knight now began to advance towards his fellow Jedi. The green grass made a soft rustling sounds as Tiberius boots traversed the short distance between the two. There was a light breeze that blew, displacing the Jedi’s hair. He quickly ran his finger through his hair to readjust his coiffure

“I’m Tiberius.” He said extending a hand for a handshake. He had not planned on meeting anyone on his little stroll. There wasn’t normally anyone on this path, but he didn’t mind at all. It was always good to make new friends.

At first Wilvick hadn't expected anyone to wander out to him. Sure, he was within eyesight of the temple, but in his experience, Jedi tended to keep to themselves. Unless they had business with you, of course. But he doubted anyone on Yavin would need him: the Order had plenty of Knights, and did not require his aid on this particular day.

But he'd felt as though someone would come to him, only a few minutes into his meditation. Such was the Force.

"It's no bother," Wilvick took the other man's hand in a firm grip, "Wilvick. It's good to meet you, Tiberius."

Wilvick stood from his spot on the rock, brushing his robes out to clear them of any dirt or debris he might have picked up. Content that his clothing was clean, or at least not visibly dirt, he turned back to the man in front of him.

"What can I help you with, Tiberius?"

Perhaps the man had come to him for a reason. Or perhaps his intrusion had been accidental. But Wilvick knew one thing: there was no such thing as chance. For some reason or another, the Force had placed Tiberius in front of him on this day. He had no issue with that, he only merely wondered why.

It was rare to interact with another Jedi at the temple. For the most part Jedi buried themselves in research or meditation and didn’t normally speak with each other unless there was a reason to. Even if you did happen upon one as you walked about the temple, you might acknowledge each other’s existence, but little talking was done. It was like they were monks who had taken a vow of silence.

“Pleasure.” Tiberius responded shaking the man’s hand. *What can I help you with?* Tiberius thought about Wilvick’s words. “Oh, nothing.” Tiberius began. “I’m just out here on a little stroll after my morning training and meditations.” It was true, stumbling on a fellow knight was an accident he had not planned to see anyone out here amid the forest. He released his grip on the other Jedi’s hand. “It’s a rare treat to come out and enjoy nature without having to worry about mission and what not.”

It was true. Tiberius had been spending a lot of time off world lately on various missions that had taken him to a variety of different planets, and he was currently enjoying some down time before his next mission. Just this morning he had received details on a classified mission on Kashyyyk that he would be leaving for soon.

Presently though, Tiberius was interested in getting to know his fellow Jedi that stood before him

Wilvick could understand wanting to go for a stroll through Yavin. It was a beautiful planet, with its forests and temples. He often took to taking a walk himself, on evenings before the sun dipped behind the gas giant. The young Knight found that there was a sort of... life to the Force here, in the wilderness. It was something he would have found imperceptible during his days as a Padawan, when he was hot-blooded and full of the desire to prove himself.

"Agreed. With the galaxy as tumultuous as it is, we should take every chance we get for rest and respite. You never know how long it'll be before you're thrown back into the thick of things."

As it turned out, Wilvick himself had only just arrived, after spending some time in the galaxy. The FWA was a big place, and there were often many people in need of help. He had largely avoided combat zones; Wilvick hadn't been an active combatant since the fall of Dantooine, and he preferred helping people to swinging a lightsaber.

"So, what's your story? I imagine you have one. Everyone does."

Tiberius nodded at his companion’s reply. “Too true.” He said in response. “But it comes with the territory I suppose.” That was one of the hazards of being part of the Jedi Order, you could be shipped out at a moment’s notice. Luckily, that was pretty rare and there was normally a little bit of a heads up before being sent on a mission, but it was always a possibility.

Tiberius let out a little chuckle before responding to Wilvick’s question. “I suppose you’re right.” He began. “We do all have a story.” There was a moment’s pause as Tiberius thought of where to start his story.

“Well, I’m originally from Dantooine.” He slowly began walking again, thinking that his new friend would follow suit. The knight wasn’t really paying attention to where they were going “My mother died when I was young, and not long after that my father and brother were killed by pirates. I was rescued by the Jedi and they brought me here. The Order has been my family ever since.”

As Tiberius pushed a branch out of his way he looked over at fellow knight. “What about you, what’s your story?” He stepped over a fallen tree and continued walking deeper into the forest

Someone else from Dantooine, huh? Wilvick hadn't been born on the planet himself, but he had been raised there. Some of his fondest memories were of his time in the temple, as a Youngling taking his first steps onto the path the Force had paved for him. He missed the lush green plains, and the open sky. He could still remember the smell of dew on the grass in the morning.

And he would never forget the fire and ash that had rained down and blanketed the temple, on the day that it fell.

"I'm sorry for your parents. I lost my own to similar tragedies," Wilvick offered simply.

He didn't have memories of his parents. The closest thing he'd ever had to a mother had been his master, Keira Adair. And now he'd lost her too. To a fate, he was sure, that the Force hadn't decided for her. Learning to let go was hard, and even though he could make peace with the fact that his master was one with the Force now, he still wasn't over what had happened.

"My mother was a Jedi Knight, who left the Order to raise me. But she had made many enemies, and they weren't content to leave her be. They found her, killed her and my father, and would have killed me. By chance, a Padawan who would one day become my Master intervened, and brought me to Dantooine. I was raised there. And I was there when it fell."

A tragedy that would forever mar his soul, he thought.

"I lost my master that day, and my home. It... it's not something I'll soon forget, I think. But life goes on."

Wilvick didn't seem angry, merely resigned.

“Thank you.” Tiberius said as Wilvick extended his sympathies. The Jedi went on to tell the tale of his own tragic experiences that had led him to the Jedi, and then the devastation of losing his master. Losing a master was, luckily, not something Tiberius had experienced, but he expected pain to be similar to that of losing one’s parents. “I’m sorry for your loss.” Tiberius said shifting his gaze over to Wilvick as he spoke. “I imaging that must have been hard you.” He continued his though as the two continued their trek through the trees

Wilvick’s story was a tragic one indeed. Being an orphan was a story that many of the Jedi share. Although not the sole source of recruitment, it was still common for the Jedi to recruit orphans. Each of the Jedi’s stories were unique, but they all seemed to lead to the temple.

Unlike Wilvick, Tiberius had many memories of his family. He remembered living on Dantooine and helping his parents on the sap farm. He remembered playing with his brother among the trees and on the plains around their home. Then he remembered his mother getting ill and passing soon after. Not long after Tiberius Father made the choice to move the family of world, and that is when Tiberius lost the rest of his family.

It was after losing his brother and father that Tiberius was taken in by the Jedi and began his journey with the force. “It seems that we have a lot in common.” Tiberius spoke after a moments silence where he was lost in his own thoughts.

"It was. But she is one with the Force now. As we all will be, eventually."

That didn't mean that Wilvick didn't mourn her loss, of course. Life was precious, and it should be preserved at nearly all costs. But what was done, was done. No amount of grief, or anger, or sorrow would bring his master back. All he could do now, was carry on in her stead, and be the Jedi she knew he could be. If he could do that, then she would never truly be gone.

'What I'm teaching you now has been passed down from master to student for a thousand generations. And now, it is your turn. Learn well, and when the time comes, teach others as I am now teaching you.'

Keira's words still echoed in his head, even all these years later. But he ignored them for now.

"It's a shame that this life we lead is often so... tragic. I wouldn't wish the burdens of the Jedi on any one person, but..., well, we must teach the next generation anyhow."

Padawans were going to war now, with the way the conflict in the galaxy had been escalating. Wilvick hated violence as a general rule, and hated even more that teenagers had to be embroiled in it.

Wilvick certainly had an optimistic view of death it seemed like, or perhaps enough time had passed for him to accept reality. This is what had happened for Tiberius. He was still saddened by the losses that he had experienced in his life, but he was now able to talk about it without getting too emotional. This was partly due to the training that he had received as a Jedi. Tiberius nodded at his observation. “I suppose you’re right. It will happen to all of us one day.”

The pair continued their trek through the dense forest. The temple was well behind them by now. The path became harder and harder to follow as they ventured forth. Wilvick continued his thoughts as they walked.

He was right, if Tiberius could have seen the path his life would take all those years ago when he was taken in by the Jedi he didn’t know if he would have still chosen the path he did. Because of his walk with the force he believed that he was a better person.

“You’re right,” Tiberius began to respond. “It is up to us to pass of the knowledge that he have obtained in our life.” The Jedi Knight still felt so young. That he had much more knowledge to gain before he could think of teaching another, but maybe he was underestimating himself. Perhaps it was time for him to begin teaching the new generation.

Suddenly there was a large object in their path. It was almost hill like, but it abruptly rose out of the ground. Tiberius shifted his gaze up. It looked like an old temple, long forgotten and covered in plant life. “Well, that looks like an adventure if I ever saw one.” He looked over at his companion to see his reaction

To Wilvick's surprise, a dilapidated temple came into view. The young Jedi Knight hadn't expected to come across a historical find, when he and Tiberius had started their walk this morning. He felt a smile cross his face: because Tiberius was right about this being an adventure. The chance to uncover and investigate ruins left behind by generations past?

Count him in.

"Incredible. I'd have thought the Order, or the Alliance would have found and scavenged ruins like this by now."

Yavin was a mysterious place. Temples dotted the landscape, all made of simple stone, and lacking and modernity. They'd had to drill into the structures to install things as simple as lamps, and communication consoles. But even if the previous denizens had been underdeveloped, Wilvick was still interested in exploring. Who knew what they could uncover, given enough time and effort.

It could be the historical find of the century.

"Perhaps we should report this to the Council? As much as I'd like to explore these ruins, there's probably a protocol for these things."

Tiberius approached the towering structure. The architecture of the building was similar to that of the Jedi temple. As he got closer he saw a doorway that was overgrown with vines that covered the entrance to the building. The knight pushed the vines to the side and looked inside. It was difficult to see beyond a few meter due to the darkness.

“You’re right.” Tiberius began to respond to Wilvick. “I would have thought the same thing.” Perhaps there was something living in the depths of the building that made exploration by the Order or the Alliance difficult or impossible.

Wilvick’s next comment let Tiberius know that his companion was a by the book kind of individual. Not that Tiberius didn’t follow the rule himself, most of the time, but he knew that it was easier to ask for forgiveness than it was to ask for permission. Pulling away from the structure Tiberius responded. “Okay, I guess you’re right.” It took everything he had not to rush into the building and begin exploring. “Let’s get going then.”

He turned back to face the way that they had come. He began his trek back to the temple where the two would report their findings

He was still tempted, of course. Wilvick had never considered himself much of a historian, much less an archeologist, but something about this stone structure called to him. The idea of exploring something no one had before, well, it was exciting to him, in ways he hadn't expected. Even so, Wilvick forced himself to turn away.

They didn't know what awaited them in that temple. Perhaps it was harmless, and simply full of old cobwebs. Or maybe it was perilous, and could end with the two of them dealing with bodily harm. If it was the latter, then they were smart not to rush in now. A Jedi was patient, not rash. So they would return to their own temple, and inform the council of their findings.

It was boring, to be sure, but still the best course of action.

"I'm disappointed myself," Wilvick commented, noting Tiberius' reluctance to leave, "but we'll return. With the council's blessing, a few extra hands, and the proper supplies necessary for exploring an uncharted temple."
