"Mein fraulien isn't ze quickest around, but no ozher cat can turn on a dime quicker zhan her."
-Flight Lieutenant Johann-

"She twists and turns harder than a virgin in bed, but she'll wear you out quicker than any other."

Affiliation: Telos Defense Force, Any indie character.

Intent: A once mass produced but outdated fighter craft, readily available at any military surplus stores. Because of its user friendly settings and low production costs, it is heavily favored by any pilot as an attack, patrol or planetary defense craft. Small mercenary groups still utilize these models as a testament of their reliability.

Model: P-4 'Bullfin'

Dimensions:

  • Length: 11 meters
  • Wingspan: 8 meters
  • Height: 4 meters (Landing gear retracted), 4.5 meters (Landing gear extended.)
Class: Starfighter.

Crew:
1 Pilot.

Armaments:

  • 2x Laser cannon (Wing-mounted.)
  • 2x Proton Torpedo Launcher (12 Torpedos per Launcher)
Equipment (Stock):
  • MilGrade Deflector Shield Generator.
  • Basic Sensors.
  • Basic Targeting Systems.
  • Basic Navigation Systems.
  • 4 Maneuvering Thrusts.
  • Standard Life Support System.
  • HoloNet Transceiver.
  • Standard Communications Suite.
  • Hypermatter Reactor.
  • Lock-On Countermeasures (Flares, ECM system.)
  • Basic Ejection Seat.
  • 2x Secondary External Fuel Tanks
Speed: 90 MGLT

Hyperdrive Rating: N/A

Complement: N/A

Maneuverability: The P-4 may not be the quickest fighter around, but has extremely highly acceleration speeds that can match present day military fighters. Thanks to its four maneuvering thrusts it is able to perform a great variety of combat maneuvers, and handles itself well in more complicated maneuvers depending on the skill of its pilot. The Bullfin shines best in dogfights with its sharp-corner turns and deceleration-acceleration tricks, allowing it to go toe to toe with other younger contenders.

Description: The P-4 started off as the less successful P-3, where it was originally intended by a pair of aspiring designers to be an interceptor but was outperformed by other models during testing, although its theoretical ability to apparently turn on a dime was seen with great interest. As the original design could not match the speeds hoped by its creators funding was pulled and schematics were stored away. Twenty years later however the design was pulled back out after a competition for air-superiority fighter designs was held by a local planet's military designers. The design was received favorably by the judges and prototypes were created for testing. It soon became apparent that it could outmatch the agility of other starfighters during its time.

The trade off for its amazing maneuverability was its armor and shield generators which due to size and power restrictions could only produce a barrier barely capable of withstanding no more than several seconds of fire. Armor durability was no less disappointing as projectile based AA weapons could even endanger the craft without its shieldings. Its armaments were also considered to be insufficient to pair up against heavier craft as the trend in starfighters were to pack as much weaponry as possible without sacrificing speed and maneuverability. Despite this it still saw production, but no more than 600 were created. Of the 600, only 23 saw active use by the planet's aviation force where it was soon sold in exchange for other alternatives.

Despite its limited initial success its rise to fame started from the hands of pirates and raiders who were desperate to get their hands on cheap, military surplus craft that could give them an edge in dogfights- The Bullfin matched their exact requirements and soon saw great results against the less nimble patrol craft which struggled to keep up with their quicker predators. The P-3 saw a moderate revival in production as soon as reports flew in and saw a great revamp in design leading to the birth of the P-4, which had a new engine block, better armor and decent weaponry that allowed it to engage heavily armored targets.

Field reports described the P-4's performance against a starfighter of a more recent design showed unprecedented results: 7 out of 10 dogfight matches went to the P-4, suffering moderate damage to the craft. While it still struggles to compete against fast interceptors and more sophisticated fighters the P-4 is still produced in planets with low defense budgets for its cost-effectiveness. Pilots have long learned to trust the Bullfin as much as the starfighter trusts the pilot's skill and intuition.

"Ze XPG-400 vill carry on my legacy, my legend and hope: Where ze P-4 failed, ze XPG will shine."
-Ex-Flight Lieutenant Johann Kaas-

"It definitely looks sleek and it's still at its prototype stage but if it's anything like it's predecessor,
ain't nothing going to catch it."
-Anonymous-
Affiliation: The Paladins of Mortis

Intent: An experimental craft designed by a washed out flight lieutenant after his service was terminated by the destruction of his post, it is meant to be the successor of the extremely outdated P-4 'Bullfin' model and to rectify initial design flaws in the P-4. Currently in its prototype stages the XPG-400 is offered only to the most skilled pilots to evaluate its performance.

Model: XPG-400 (X = Experimental; P = Prototype.)

Dimensions:
  • Length: 15 meters
  • Wingspan: 10 meters
  • Height: 4.5 meters (Landing gear retracted), 5 meters (Landing gear extended.)
Class: Fighter
Crew: 1 Pilot
Armaments: x1 Heavy laser cannon (Nose Mounted.)

Equipment (Stock):

  • x1 MilGrade Deflector Shield Generator
  • Enhanced Sensor Suite
  • Advanced Targeting Computer (MilGrade.)
  • Standard Communications Suite w/ Integrated Encryption and Scrambling
  • Standard Navigation Systems
  • Standard ECM Systems
  • Standard life support system
  • Hypermatter Reactor
  • Pilot Ejection Module
  • x6 Maneuvering Thrusters.
Speed: 90 MGLT
Hyperdrive Rating: N/A

Maneuverability: The XPG-400 improves upon the P-4's maneuverability with two additional maneuvering thrusters giving the pilot an even greater degree of control in flight. Turn times and vector adjustments have been streamlined, giving a notable 2.1% boost in efficiency. Though the numbers do not affect the pilot's chances dramatically, every small improvement is welcomed. With the six thrusters the XPG-400 can out-maneuver other single-seater craft smoothly.

Description: While the P-4 was an admirable craft in her own rights, its performance was proven to be sorely lacking against modern spacecraft. Despite its shortcomings, it still performed its intended role beautifully; the problem simply was outdated designs. The XPG-400 was designed based on the needs and requests of ex-Bullfin pilots: improvements include better quality control, improved maneuverability and ergonomics.

The main concerns of the original model was its lackluster weaponry. Despite its torpedo launchers pilots found it extremely troublesome to calculate firing vectors in the middle of evasive maneuvers. Taking away the option to use the torpedoes left the pilots with only their light lasers which were ineffective against heavier craft.

After several simulation tests with changing variables the torpedoes were done away and the light lasers upgraded to a nose mounted, heavy duty laser cannon most typically found on heavy-fighter/air defense fighters. With a single cannon the pilot had better firepower, while reducing redundancy of systems- with less weapons the cannons had more energy for longer operations. With a slow but consistent fire rate an able pilot can track his targets and nullify the opposition.

Owing to the extremely difficulty in controlling the XPG-400, it is only issued to skilled and experienced pilots. An untrained pilot is more liable to crash than 'fly'. With over 6 maneuvering thrusters and vector calculations the XPG-400 requires specialist training. It also requires heavy maintenance and longer downtime, but can operate far longer than its predecessor.

"The stormtroopers aren't so bad- you see a flash of white tramping down the streets, you'll know to stay inside and don't look outside. Sometimes that's not enough, and you have to secure the doors with two locks, maybe even get yourself a blaster rifle. That usually makes the plastic boys think twice.

But if it's the men in black, all the locks and guns in the universe aren't going to help you, so you run like hell."

DESCRIPTION
While the Redoubt series proves to be popular among those who prefer to engage in direct combat, many Imperial personnel are unsatisfied with its performance in other areas, most notably ergonomics. Studies have proven that armed combat personnel are able to conduct military operations more efficiently (up by 15%) when provided with more ergonomic-oriented armor. However, if concessions are to be made, then armor quality should not suffer as well. The Herald series provides an option to operators who prefer to fight in comfort, or simply enjoy the larger range of mobility it provides.

The full body suit is primarily composed of armorweave and is chemically treated to provide adequate resistance against melee weapons, shrapnel and even toxic environments. This of course is no excuse for a trooper to enter hostile environments without specialist equipment, but at least the soldier would not suffer terribly quick in the case of fire or chemical leakage. The body suit also allows for orbital operations of up to 15 minutes, a minor disadvantage when compared to the Redoubt series. The Herald's strongest point of armor is its chest plate, composed primarily of a duraplast alloy allowing for a modicum of protection and lightweight attributes. To improve resistance a thin layer of thermal gel is located in between the bodysuit and the chestplate, increasing shock absorption and cold-weather temperature resistance. Its ability to provide adequate warmth to the user in sub-zero temperatures however is not potent and only prolongs to maintain the user's warmth for longer periods.

Should the armor be breached anywhere and the onboard computer system detects an injury to the wearer an automated medical cocktail injector will quickly administer up to 150ml (Maximum safety dosage) of painkillers and sterilizing gel at the point of injury. This provides a stabilizing effect and ensures that the trooper is able to perform without a loss in efficiency often derived from physiological reactions i.e pain or delirium from loss of blood.

The helmet provides adequate protection to the user's organic brain matter but also provides room to support a Third-Generation Combat Assistant Program which assists in monitoring non-vital systems of the armor, as well as filtering white-noise and transmission from the onboard communicator. It is also in charge of updating local battlefield projection maps via satellite uplink and monitoring squad locations up to a maximum of 100 meters. The program however is not omnipotent and is quite limited in its capacity to adapt to rapid battlefield changes, solve complex tactical problems and so forth. Many testers however, appreciate its presence.

Unlike the Redoubt series the Herald does not support any wrist-mounted flamethrowers or net launchers on its standard variant. However owing to its lightweight nature the suit has ports for jump packs which makes traversing difficult terrain much easier. Though noisy this provides unparalleled mobility on the battlefield which the Redoubt series suffers from.
