Having spent most of her life surrounded by the great outdoors, comforted by the sound of falling leaves and the scent of the damp earth, it felt strange to Ao to find herself in a place that could feel so singularly too big and too small at the same time. None of the dozen planets she had traveled to before had ever seemed so distinctly alien and for a time the Padawan couldn't help but wonder whether Denon was a collection of cities bathed in neon lights and disembodied of any greenery, or rather a horizon of infinite metal in between which waves of spacecrafts could be seen trying to find a certain harmony.

Something was for certain however, the ecumenopolis stood on the brink of chaos, and the muffled sound of trumpets proclaiming the outbreak of an impending conflict of intergalactic scope could already be discerned reverberating through the echoes of the Force by anyone sensible enough to pay attention to it.

Fearing to find himself at the crossroad between an emerging rebel militia and the forces of the Sith Empire whose disfavors he had attracted with his pro-Jedi stances, a prominent Denonian political figure facing mounting violent threats had requested the assistance of the defenders of the light to coordinate with his personal bodyguards and ensure his and his family's security.

While her masters would be watching over the governor personally, Ao had been sent along other Padawan to watch over a lower security target: the politician's two-year-old daughter. This would be the first time Ao got to serve her Order in any official capacity, and while this ought to be nothing more than a glorified babysitting venture, she felt honored to have been given this opportunity and was eager to prove herself.

As the pink-hued rays of the dying sun inundated the governor's residential complex, Ao got ready to canvass the perimeter for the first time of the night lightsaber at the ready.

A hiss escaped his mask as he sighed, his deep baritone voice messing a bit with the masks vocabulator when he used too much breath. He looked through the force at the men standing behind him, a simple squad of four men allotted to him for this mission. To kill a child of two. He was glad no one could see him grimace at the thought.

"Get ready!" The pilot called as the shuttle was approaching the drop zone that would allow them to at least get as close as possible undetected to the complex. A crack of his neck was his only reply as he moved to stand near the opening ramp, checking over the jet pack on his back over for the thirteenth time since they'd left the cruiser in orbit. "Hey! Are you ready Acolyte?" The pilot had left the cockpit to his co-pilot and had come up to Nergal.

"Yes I'm ready to kill a child." Nergal had turned and snarled through his mask as he loomed over the man, his disgust and rage billowing off of him in waves. If he had any choice in the matter he'd rather slaughter the shuttles occupants instead. With a slow count of six in ancient sith he calmed. "Yes, now unless you want to come along with the rest of us when we jump get back to the cockpit." He hissed at the man who all to eagerly obeyed, most likely sensing Nergals wish to make his death especially slow to vent his frustrations. With clenched fists he watched as his senses expanded from being confined to all open space in the shuttle to billow out into the area around it once an opening was made.
The soldiers all lined up next to him and began to jump while he waited, though with a slight pull of the force he picked up a grenade from the weaponry offered for the mission aboard the shuttle. He debated activating it and leaving it in the shuttle for both venting purposes and to provide the team with a distraction but disregarded and simple placed in a pouch at his hip.

Right as he stepped off the ramp of the shuttle he sank into the force in a sort of meditation. Draining his emotions into the mental containers he'd been steadily building since he'd started his path as a sith, a path he'd simply named cold rage. His hope to prevent his mind from being as influenced as others or at least perhaps delay those symptoms a bit longer. Then he felt elation, free and unfettered as he freefell through the air. His senses just at the tail end of the soldiers supposedly under his command for this job but he figured they just looked at him as specialist support. He still had a long way to Champion yet.

Ruzaan had reluctantly agreed to a position on Denon providing security for a politician's daughter, having been convinced to take the job because he was watching over the daughter and not the politician. The last diplomat he'd been responsible for had included a vomit bath, so he was looking forward to a quieter night watching over a sleeping baby.

If only 'quieter' was what he got.

Little Emma D'Ornay possessed a powerful pair of lungs and a willingness to use them, and for the umpteenth time Ruzaan hurried over to the wailing toddler, wondering exactly what was wrong this time. His toolkit for dealing with crying children was incredibly limited, and the Togruta found himself wishing that Ao was here. Perhaps his montrals looked like horns to the child, but for whatever reason Emma's reaction to seeing Ruzaan was to usually cry even louder.

His nose quickly alerted him to the fact that an unpleasant battle awaited him, and with a heavy sigh Ruzaan picked up the squealing baby and made for the changing table in the 'fresher just down the hall from the main room. Both he and Ao had handheld receivers linked to the baby monitor in Emma's room, which served as a convenient- if short ranged- source of communication between the two. "Ao, I'm heading to the 'fresher" he said through the main unit. "I don't suppose you want to take this one?"
