Thread Title Theme
Rondan, 147km Outside of Sardonis City, 1453 Hours
op__chastity__combat_evac_by_ukitakumuki.jpg
Three atmospheric transports moved in a v-formation across the sun-scorched landscape of outside of Sardonis City. The battle there had been hard-fought by ADI and the Rondani people, but at significant casualties. The numbers were in the hundreds, but volunteers had shipped in from a number of neighbouring towns and smaller cities. They were equipped with fresh kit daily, blasters and fresh armour to keep them fighting. The local atmospheric transports proved to be a bloody godsend, relieving the larger ships for major troop movements. In orbit hung The Helios, keeping vigilant watch over the ADI/PDF forces.

The transports used were one large VTOL lift craft carrying 10 men with a light-attack hovertruck slung from a couple of mag-clamps, accompanied by two small variable-tilt rotary wing craft, capable of carrying about 5 troops each. Their slow speed proved valuable in navigating the precarious path through the rugged mountains, the need to stay below sensor horizon absolutely essential. The radio station was about 40 seconds out. Men slapped power packs into their rifles and loaded up, ready to drop.

As they got closer, the transports rounded a mountain face and a long winding road ran beneath them right up to the gate of the station. Small arms fire opened up and pinged off the transports' hull, but when the anti-air opened up and flak puffed black clouds on the sky, evasive manoeuvres. The transports bucked and jerked, lurching with every blasts.

Warrant Officer Kaidan Solas clacked the charging handle on his fresh CZR-01 blaster rifle. He pushed his helmet onto his head and locked it in place, the HUD lighting up. He activated his comms and opened the line to the two officers present.

"I know you guys are the commanding officers, and with all due respect, it is my place to ask..." He had always been enlisted, but he'd been fighting for years, longer than most others, especially lieutenants. "You ready, mate?"

Andor Hais was a bit too preoccupied running over all his weapons and gear one last time before the drop to reply to the man. While the Zabrak took meticulous care of his weapons, it never hurt to make sure you weren't charging into battle with a jammed rifle or empty power cells. Satisfied by his examinations, he cocked the charging handle on his rifle, identical to that of the Warrant Officers, and took one last deep breath.

"Yeah, I'm ready to go." Blood and adrenaline coursing through his veins, he shifted back and forth in place before getting into a ready position, eyes locked on the dropship's ramp.

Sal stood rising to his feet, checking his ammo allocation and charging his weapon. Sal knew what was to come, the hell of a battle similar to the previous one he just returned from. Sal enjoyed the ADI's business and well the business was good.

Sal slowly worked his way to the front of the formation, overlooking his comrades he was about to fight with, possibly die with. Hearing the warrant, he nodded assuring he and his men were ready.

"Its you or them men!"

Sal yelled to his unit as they too stood checking their gear. A private approached scared asking

"Will we make it out ok sir?..."

Sal turned to the junior enlisted and before he could answer one of his NCOs yelled at the private

"Shut your whole private!!!! Dont get out of line!!!"

Abruptly sal vetoed

"Its ok SGT... Ive got this,"

Looking to the boy he replied kindly, seeing he was scared to death,

"Stay close to me and i will do all i can. But i will not promise you anything."

"Alright boys! LZ is hot!" Kaidan stood up and turned towards the boarding ramp at the back of the larger transport as it opened.

He looked at the driver of the guntruck as it swung to either side on its mag-clamps. He nodded to the driver, who nodded in acknowledgement. The dropship lowered 3 meters off the ground as the gunner on the heavy repeater pulled back the cycling handle and spun up the barrels. The clamps released and the guntruck feel on a cushion of air as the dropship reached the ground right in front of it.

"MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!" Kaidan jumped down the ramp as 3 RDF and 2 ADI jumped with him.

The first RDF trooper rounded the side of the dropship, whose nose was pointed at the front entrance of the radio station, and was immediately struck by a massive slug from a heavy machine gun. His right arm exploded at the shoulder, becoming nothing but red mist. The guntruck shifted the that side of the dropship, peeking out from behind it and firing a long burst of rapid plasma at the round's source. The guard tower next to the gate exploded in flame, the propwash of the other two smaller transports threw dust into the air of the LZ. The trooper all piled out of their transports and choppers, fanning out and lighting up the Insurgent defenders.

An ADI Marine pulled out an RPG and the rocket streaked across the flat area towards the other guard tower. It exploded with in another fireball, outblasting the explosion of its twin. The transports lifted up and broke away, finding an area to lie low until pickup could be achieved safely, after the base was cleared. Kaidan charged below the hail of bullets from the defenders on top of the wall, his men closing the distance too.

"CLEAR A HOLE!" He shouted at the top of his lungs as the guntruck adjusted its direction and shot forward at a breakneck speed. It rammed clean through the massive wood and metal gate, splintering the aged wood and bending the metal as it barreled through obstruction.

Once the transport ramp was open, all hell broke loose on the dropship. Andor raced out the back of the ship and dropped onto the battlefield, racing around the opposite end of the transport as everyone else to avoid becoming a target. As the ships took off and the men managed to neutralize the two enemy towers, Andor met up with the rest of the men from the drop behind cover. Switching his rifle over to automatic, he began layong out short, controlled bursts at the enemy combatants, pushing forward as the troops behind layed down cover fire.

Watching the ramp drop upon Sal's ship, the selonian crouched as rounds began to atempt on entering the hull and killing its occupants. As soon as it dropped sal pushed forward Calling to his men

"Lets go! Follow me!!!!"

He screamed at the top of his lungs, praying he didnt meet the end of someones barrel. Sal hunkered down behind a crater that had just recently been excavated by a few motor shells. Looking about sal spotted the private and ran to his side. Checkin the boys person he ensured he wasnt hit.

"You good son?!"

He questioned

"Ya im good sir!"

The private answered, with an overwhelming sense of fear could be seen in his eyes.

"Keep your head down and your weapons straight!"

Sal mentioned leaning over to the boys shoulder.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE MY MACHINE GUNS?!?! GET THOSE BASTARDS TALKING!!!!!"

Sal returned to his officer attitude and encouraged his men to gain fire superiority amongst the enemy combatants. About this time the guns spun up and began to chat like a husband and wife that has been married for 50 years, bickering on who left the toilet seat up.

Sal looked around for the warant officer hoping he had some good news about the 5 W's. Seeing in every briefing things go one way until boots hit the ground running then things ALWAYS changed.

Sal looked to his peers and fellow officers as brothers and advisers. And well today was like anyother time, he sought for some advice on where the weakest points lie.

The insurrectionist leader stood atop the radio station, a 3-story building with sandbags along its roof. He leveled his rifle at one of the new attackers to take another shot, striking down another RDF trooper. A mortar arced overhead, a crater left right where the gate was. Kaidan jumped when he heard the whistle of the round and leapt away from the gate. 3 men were thrown by the blast and he felt it in his ears. He scrambled off the ground and dodged for cover as blaster bolts continued to fill the air. He rolled and came up, pushed himself up against a corner of one of the small peripheral buildings. He reached around the corner and blind-fired his rifle at the general source of the enemy fire.

Sal set up heavy weapons and Kaidan cursed under his breath. Too much time, too unwieldy, this was supposed to be a fast moving operation, not a siege. He jumped back and cut around the other side of the building, watched for a moment as the guntruck strafed to the side as it loosed long bursts at the windows of the radio station main building. He turned and sprinted, another ADI Marine running just behind him. He kicked in the door of the low peripheral building and held the trigger of his rifle as he cleared the room. The heat sink of his rifle clicked and the nearest rebel went to fire at the delay. Kaidan threw his rifle and ducked into a charge, picking the man up off the ground as he slammed him into the aging concrete wall.

The man fought back, driving a knife into his lower back. Kaidan roared in pain as he shifted and threw the man to the ground, drawing his blaster pistol and firing three blasts into his opponent. He turned and verified that the building was cleared and then ran out the back again.

"Somebody stack a fireteam into that main building!"

"On it!" Andor gathered up a few of the remaining ADI soldiers and began to push toward the door, one group providing cover as the other moved in. Once the small unit reached the gate, Hais ordered two of the men to hang back and provide suppressing fire on the main building. While the enemy defenders were being pinned down he lead the rest of his men to the main door. They had just enough cover to reach the door without casualties, but the men covering them didn't fare so well, as a thermal detonator had landed near their position and taken them out.

"WE NEED SUPPRESING FIRE UP HERE! WHERE'S THAT REPEATING BLASTER?!" Andor and his men were now stranded directly in front of the main compound. It was almost impossible for the defenders to hit them from this angle, but if any of Andor's men stepped out they'd be cut down by blaster fire. On top of that, reinforcements couldn't reach them to help take the building, and four men wasn't enough to clear a building so large and well defended, especially if they were going through the front door.

The selonians heavy weapons team fired rapidly a crossed the field at their opponents with extreme prejudice. Hearing over the comms a team in distress sal dispatched a small support by fire, in attempts to lower the enemies head for a few minutes. Sals men was designed for Support and mass casualties not assaulting or clearing.

Knowing this he still sent out a team to try and aid the men. The small team consisted of two shoulder fired repeaters as well as a marksman and a grenadier to help. That was really all sal could offer.

"In route now!!!"

Sal remarked on the comms

"Pick the rate up!!!!"

Sal commanded his heavy weapons, shortly after the guns quit talking and unleashed the 'Mad Minute' tactic. Which consisted of going cyclic or rather just holding down the trigger for a minute, only stopping to reload or fix a jam. The rounds were meant to force heads down for one minute to help the small team maneuver to the men in need.

Sal raised his rifle and joined the suppression.....

Warrant Officer Solas looked at his mission chrono, it'd been about 2 minutes and 32 seconds since they rounded the mountain and they had taken fire. He checked his simplified HUD and counted the indicator lights with their respective numbers, telling him the current bio-signs of the unit. 12 Green, 5 Yellow, 3 Red. They were down 3 men, and 5 were already wounded in some way. Suppression fire picked up and Kaidan slung his rifle as he ran towards the main compound's gate, pulling two grenades from his bandolier.

The first was a fragmentation grenade in his right hand. His right thumb pulled the pin and he released his first two fingers to discard the priming clip. He chucked it over his head and let it land on the other side of the wall at the front of the main compound. The second was a smoke grenade in his left hand. With his right hand free he pulled the smoke's pin and released the clip, chucking it into the same area just as he heard the solid boom of his frag go off, the screams of men faintly audible over the sound of gunfire.

Kaidan and the marine behind him sprinted across the open ground, the Warrant Officer getting a fresh hold on his rifle. The wound in his back throbbed with pain and he slammed his shoulder against the compound's adobe wall, pressing himself against it for cover. He grabbed one of the stims from a pouch on his utility belt and inserted it into one of the injectable-access slot in his arm. He found the vein and stuck it, depressing the button to allow the fresh combat stimulant to course through his circulatory system. His eyes widened and he inhaled sharply, discarding the used device on the ground before finally getting around to replacing the powerpack in his blaster rifle.

He slapped the charging handle of his rifle, engaging the mechanism to introduce to the chamber. He checked his inventory quickly before he slid down the wall towards the Zabrak officer, Andor Hais. He stacked up just behind him the man, patting him on the shoulder.

"Sir, your squad now! Lead us in!"

Andor watched as the Warrant officer from the dropship and another marine bolted over to their position, accompanied by the roar of suppressing fire and grenades. Having lost Simmons at the dropship, along with Che'Wa and Grutch at the gate, reinforcements and heavy weapons were a miracle. Andor ordered his men to reload as the officer slid over to them, having popped a combat stim for his apparent injuries and reloaded himself. Swapping out his current powerpack for a fresh one, Andor put the weapon sling back over his shoulder, just in case he needed to switch to his sidearm inside. Afterall, it would be faster than trying to reload.

Feeling the officer pat his back, he ordered his men to stack up behind them as they prepared to breach the door. Wood with old metal hinges, no need for breaching charges. Andor put his full weight into kicking down the door, catching three of the four men inside off-guard, the prepared man being cut down in a blaze of blaster fire just before his friends.

"Clear!"

Sals team hit the end of their mad minute. Seeing his men needed to move up as the enemies closed in on their position.

"Bravo! UP!"

He yelled vigorously as he and a team moved up while his alpha team opened fire to cover their movements. As they sat up in a position they began to open fire.

"Alpha?!..UP!!!"

He yelled back to his men as his second team advanced to their position.

"Alpha?! UP!!!"

He commanded moving his alpha team up once again. Simply for the fact he had bravo already in a support by fire position and didnt see a need in setting in alpha just to move bravo when he could just move the one already inroute again.

"Bravo?! UP!!!"

He yelled one last time getting his men on line. He began to spread his men apart farther than 10 meters apart to help widen their sectors of fire and more ground coverage for their rounds that headed down range.

"Kaiden?! Do we have artillery set in?!"

He called to the warrant over the comms unsire if they could call for fire or not. Something of which they needed....desperately.

"To advise, find cover and set your heavy boys up. Keep any of the stragglers from coming in behind us!" Kaidan replied to the Selonian (@Sal Falūd).

Andor kicked in the door of the main building, firing full auto around the room. Kaidan followed immediately behind him, rifle leveled as he ran down the nearest hallway after the Zabrak called "clear." He slid along the wall of the hallway, doors spaced along the opposite wall of the passage which was only a meter and a half wide. An insurgent burst through a door as Kaidan was passing it. His head turned but his rifle couldn't keep up, the insurgent having already got the jump on him.

The rebel grabbed at Kaidan's rifle and slammed him into the wall. His head was thrown back and slapped against the wall, jarring his brain inside his skull in his helmet. He felt the unmistakable pain of a knife slipping between the plates of his armour, just below his ribcage. Instead of reacting, he roared with fresh agony and adrenaline coursing through his veins. He grappled with the rebel, fighting over the rifle. He held to the rifle with a vice grip in his left hand as his right flew to his hip, drawing his pistol and firing two bolts into the rebel over his attackers shoulder, trying to come through the door that first one had. Kaidan aimed down the hallway and whipped out three shots at two fresh insurgents running down the hallway with shotguns before his grapple-mate was able to disarm him.

Kaidan dropped the pistol and was thrown freshly into the wall, but he fought back immediately. He resisted the insurgent until the bastard's grip on the rifle slipped just enough. He slipped the rifle through the man's hands and whipped it back around and smacked the butt into the insurgent's face with such force that there was an audible crack when his cheekbones shattered. Kaidan threw the man off of him and delivered a swift burst of fire into his chest. The body went limp as Kaidan stepped past it. He finally spoke on the comms, his voice out of breath as he pressed his hand to the wound in his abdomen.

"Jask, Senko, you're both on me. Sergeant Hall, take 4 men to clear the ground floor. Lieutenant Hais, I'm heading upstairs to clear the second floor." He went up the first couple stairs at the end of the corridor before stopping on the landing that served as the corner of the stairwell. "Do you think you could come up behind me with a couple men, clear the first floor?"

If Hais (@TheHook1) agreed, Solas would wait for his fireteam members and Andor's fireteam before running up the stairs in front of the Lieutenant, letting them break off when they reached the first floor up. However, the CO could totally overrule the Warrant Officer if he saw fit. Kaidan would simply have to adapt or die.

As Andor and his few remaining men entered the main hallway, he was caught off guard by the Warrant Officer racing past him further into the building without waiting to sweep the other rooms. Ordering Kaidan's men to sweep the first room, Andor moved forward with his troops to cover the second and third. Stakcing against the fram, Andor and the soldier behind him broke down the door and stormed in, only to be met with a visibly frightened Weequay aiming a blaster pistol at them. The man was probably just out of his teens, and clearly wasn't prepared for this level of fighting, the fear and inexperience showing on his face. Andor had seen a dozen men like him on Rattataki, guys dredged into the local warlords army, kids who barely knew how to work a blaster.

He hesitated, not long, but long enough for the terrified man to pop off a round directly into his chest. While his body armor was able to take the hit, Andor was knocked back into the hallway, nearly taking the trooper behind him too. However, the ADI soldier managed to stay upright, and gunned down the Weequay with a volley of rifle fire. It took Andor a second to process what had just happened, and another to finally acknowledge the hand being extended to him. Taking it, Andor was hoisted back to his feet, before looking back down the hallway in both directions. The men had cleared the nearby rooms without much incident, except for the Warrant Officer, who was standing over the corpse of an insurgent bleeding from his side.

"Jask, Senko, you're both on me. Sergeant Hall, take 4 men to clear the ground floor. Lieutenant Hais, I'm heading upstairs to clear the second floor. Do you think you could come up behind me with a couple men, clear the first floor?"

"Yeah, we'll handle the second floor, but take Hobbes with you, that's an order." Normally, Andor wasn't one to pull rank, but he wasn't about to let Kaiden take on an entire floor wounded and with only two men.

The rounds flew drastically by their heads, as the heavy weapons lay down fire massive explosions began to errupt all around them from the mortars honing in on their sector.

"We gotta move! They are pressing hard on us!"

Sal screamed over the comms in fear over all the ruckus going on around them. Noticing a building to their right, sal pushed his men inside. The building lie parallel to Andor and Solas as they too began clearing operations.

"Push through!"

Sal ordered his team each clearing a floor and gaining a foot hold on both the first and top floor. The base floor carried the building defense squad while to top floor carried the support team.

Sal began to wonder the sanity once again of their mission but was going to fulfill it.
