I would be interested to see a thread for the UK General Election!

Wish Granted.

So, with our coalition government (Conservatives (called Republicans in the US) + Liberal Democrats) coming to an end in the upcoming month, I personally enjoyed the hung parliment. It meant tories didn't have all the power to completely mess up the working class and enrich their pockets too deeply and that the Liberals actually got a chance to show England how they would lead a country (like a lapdog, some may argue).

Currently the polls look like:
Lab 34% +0 (Ed Milliband)
Con 34% +1 (David Cameron, current PM)
UKIP 13% +0 (Nigel Farage)
Lib Dem 8% +0 (Nick Clegg, current second PM)
Other 6% +0
Green 5% -1 (Natalie Bennett)

Which is a shame, since i'll be voting Green. Don't trust any of the top 3, so why vote for them. I'm sure there's more, but they fall under "other" for now.

Party Manifesto Guide

So. Discuss?

If the LibDems got a chance to run the country it'd be far worse than it currently is.

You say that as if you can see the future. Can't be any worse than a Labour party who are literally Stupid Tories, a Tory party who are literally in it for themselves and a country full of people who think "strategic voting" will move this country forward.

But hey i'm a bit of a revolutionist when it comes to our countries politics. **** the lot of them and replace them all, I'd say.

I never said the other parties where somehow better. The Greens are complete lunatics, the LibDems have no spine and no direction, the Tories are so heavily corrupt that it's a wonder that they're still around, Labour have lost their purpose and become boot lickers for the Tories, and UKIP has a questionable manifesto.

Uk Politics are a complete mess. But don't pretend that one party is better than the other. They're all as corrupt and stupid as each other, completely out of touch with their typical voting demographics.

Couldn't agree more.

Personally I am voting Conservative due to the fact that I share their core values, of promoting free market capitalism, veering away from the welfare dependency in the UK and rewarding people for hard work. Having seen what Labour did in 2000-2010 I never want to see them back in power, and I shudder at the thought of a Lab-SNP Coalition.

However, I think a Lab-SNP Coalition is what we will end up with, and furthermore I think that we will be seeing another independence referendum for Scotland by 2020. I want to see a Conservative Majority, but I am a realist and I think this is not going to happen. Lab-SNP will ruin the country, but I think its almost guaranteed to be the outcome.

I would vote for anyone who would make fox hunting illegal. Actually illegal this time. Not this "fox hunters being backed up by police" bullshit.

I'm a Marxist. I have no interest in any of these parties save the SNP because they represent a perfect opportunity to dismember the fascist British state. It's still a Capitalist party, but with some conjunctural nods towards social democracy. It can't paper over the contradictions of capitalism, but it provides a good platform for the left to drive a dagger through such mores at least on a subaltern level in Scotland.

Labour's fall is also all to the good, particularly since the Tories are in a mutual death spiral with said party. Electoral politics are at an inflectional crisis point. Lefts (and Rights, since I suppose fascists gonna fascist) should of course partake, but real change won't happen with votes.

Anywho, good luck with your corrupt and inept war-criminals, charlatans and mountebanks!

PS. Were I not-American (*shudders*) I would vote Conservative.

*Bump*

Since we need to experience the meaningless spectacle of which objectionable white elite guy will get to rule over the desiccated core of the old Empire.

My personal prediction:

Tories: 282
Labour: 265
SNP: 52
Lib Dems: 24
DUP: 8
Sinn Fein: 5
UKIP: 4 (going out on a limb and think they have a decent shot at Great Grimsby because **** Labour)
Plaid Cymru: 3
SDLP: 3
Greens: 1
Respect: 1
Alliance: 1
Independent: 1

As far as a coalition... hoping for Conservatives + Lib Dems + DUP. To paraphrase Old Lenny, one should support Ed Milliband's Labour party as a rope supports a hanged man.

I agree with that Prediction.

Labour/SNP would be terrible.
Tory, Lib, DUP would be less so.

I hope Labour wins and Milliband becomes PM. It's long past time for a muppet to be elected Prime Minister.

I feel like this speaks volumes. Your predictions also look fairly accurate, though I would wager Labour gets fewer and Lib Dems / UKIP gets more.

I hope Farage gets appointed to be the ambassador to Belgium now that he's stepped down from UKIP leadership. Surely nothing could go wrong there :21:.

Why? He's still an MEP, he's not lost his seat in the EU Parliament.

Pretty much sums up everything I wish I could say on British politics.

What we've learned:

1. British pollsters are pants at polling
2. The English really hate the Scottish
3. EdStone is electoral headstone
4. Mildly more moderate far-right market capitalists are less electable than ultraright market capitalists

The tendency now as I see it in Labour is towards a synthesis of Blairite "principles" (shovel money to your rich chums) with some condescending sops to the working class (demonize the Pakistani as they are of course, objectively lazier than white Britons.) I tend to think that either Burnham or Umunna will win leadership but that the general tendencies (sapping Labour strength, Blue Labour ascendant) will be difficult for either to modify (assuming of course that they wish to --both are awful and Umunna a fortiori.

Maybe they're upset about the austerity policies that are crushing the poor and choking the UK as well as the rest of Europe.

But no, I'm sure they're just being hooligans who should be condemned without any understanding behind it.

Defacing war memorials is a step to far, regardless of the reasoning behind.
They just as well piss on peoples graves.
