History:
Kegan is a quiet farm world in the Outer-rim. It’s surface is flat, dotted with ranches and farming enclaves outside larger cities and spaceports. In one of these farming settlements, there lived a young girl with her father. Everyday, they worked in the fields outside the enclave in which they lived with several other families. The girl’s name was Megan, and she was eight years old. Her mother had died when she was four of a sudden illness, and instead of remarrying, her father sought comfort in the peasant life, moving to this rural farming colony. They lived in this peaceful way, farming the land, thereby getting enough to eat. They were not rich by any means, but they were happy in their simple life.

One evening, they were sitting at the small table in the center of their apartment. Megan had just finished cooking a simple, but hearty meal, and they began eating. Suddenly, a great uproar arose in the enclave outside. They heard shots being fired, and horrible dying groans. Megan ducked under the table as her father peeked outside. He took one look at the intruders, and heaved a great sigh. Oh no, they’ve come! I knew they would catch up with me! He grabbed Megan’s hand and they hurried out the back door of their apartment into the corridor behind. The intruders had not yet entered the enclave itself, just the courtyard. They rushed towards a culvert in the passage which would take them outside. Megan’s father ducked in first, and she followed him. Come on Megan, follow close. After several minutes of crouched running through the low culvert, they reached the end. As her father pushed up on the hatch that would let them out into the fields north of the enclave, Megan saw his silhouette in the twilight that came pouring in. After climbing out himself, he helped her out, setting her in the grass beside him.

They rushed off towards the woods that bordered the field. After passing under the verge of the wood, Megan took one last look back at the enclave which was now in flames, wondering who had done this horrible thing. They had slowed to a walk now, and she was really curious about who had murdered the others in the enclave. “Dad, who did that?” Her father looked down to her as they continued walking briskly. I should give you an explanation. You deserve to know. The reason I haven’t told you before this is that you were too young to understand. You’ve heard of the Jedi haven’t you? Of course you have, they’re in all those dratted holovids you kids watch these days. Well, your mother was a Jedi. She fled with me when the Jedi were destroyed several years ago. She was only a padawan then, but the Sith absolutely hate the Jedi and hunt them through the galaxy now. Most were killed, but your mother survived until several years ago when they tracked her even to this remote world. They killed her on the spot when they found her. I heard about it before they could track me down, and I took you here to protect you. I never thought they would find me. The T.S.S. is ruthless though, I should have known. Any with connections to the Jedi order are hunted down and killed eventually. That’s me, and that’s you now. Eventually they will find me and kill me, but you can escape their wrath. Become one of them Megan, and you will be safe from them if you are strong enough. Come on, let’s go. We should escape before they find us here.

This was a lot to think about for an eight year old girl. Megan pondered her father’s words, trying to understand them, and for the longest time, she couldn’t. As she grew older however, she began to understand more about what he had said about the Sith. He taught her all he knew of the arts of combat, as they lived off the Kegan land for the next ten years. In addition to galactic history and other practical sciences, he taught her how to wield a vibrosword. They earned their food together, trapping and hunting through the wilderness. With their extra earnings, they purchased for themselves a pair of vibroswords, and they trained together. It was a hard life, roving the wilds by day, sleeping by night, and hunting during either light or darkness. Instead of using her real name, Megan’s father began calling her Umbra. One day, he explained this to her. Your real name is known to the Sith. Protect yourself and use this name when describing yourself. I will never give away your identity. Call me father, and then no one will know that we are associated with the Jedi.

When Megan, or Umbra, was eighteen, she went into a spaceport with her father to trade their goods for credits. After searching around, they chose a dealer and were getting their credits, when the dealer suddenly noticed Umbra’s father. Hey, there’s a bounty on you! Quickly, he rang the Sith governing office and pulled out a blaster. Halt fugitive, your capture will make me rich! Umbra pulled out her vibrosword, knocking the man’s blaster out of his hand. “Not if I have anything to say about it!” The man merely smiled, looking beyond them to where a Sith transport was landing. T.S.S. officers exited the transport as the loading ramp lowered, their guns leveled. Frustrated and enraged, Umbra turned her wrath first on the shopkeeper, burying her vibrosword in his chest. After withdrawing it, the blood splattered off the sword due to the tingling core for which that kind of weapon is named. Her father was walking towards the Sith with his blade drawn as well. Before stepping out into a torrent of blaster fire, he took one sad look back at her, knowing his time had come.

Umbra suddenly had an idea. It was likely that the Sith didn’t even know that he was her father, and a traitorous idea entered her mind. She came up behind her father, knocking the vibrosword out of his hand with her own. Then, she flung him to the ground. Immediately T.S.S. officers surrounded them, their guns pointed at her father. “Got him for you.” The Sith secret service team, at the order of their commander, immediately executed Umbra’s father. This is not what she had expected. In a fit of violent rage, she slashed at the guns of the six security officers who had just killed her father. They were already within melee range, so she had a rather nice advantage luckily. After bashing most of the guns or at least knocking them out of their hands, she began ruthlessly killing the security service members of the Sith Empire who had just murdered her father. She had intended that they simply take him under custody, after which she would leave the planet free of worries. This would change everything of course. After killing three of the secret service officers and putting the rest to flight, she advanced on the guard captain, who wielded his own vibrosword. The plaza was empty as the people had fled the violence, hoping not to get caught up in it. Umbra began with a violent strike aimed for the man’s head. He was also pretty angry at the deaths of three of his squad mates, and he struck back just as violently, stopping, and repelling her blade. She made violent strike after violent strike, all of which the man either dodged or blocked. Finally, she got a hit in, slicing the left arm of his uniform, thus drawing first blood. After this, she had an easier time of it since the man was unable to perfectly wield his blade due to the injury. She scored a vital hit under his heart, and shortly thereafter, she drove her blade through his thorax and removed it, leaving him to die.

Conveniently, the squadron commander was also the pilot of the shuttle. Not wishing to waste any fuel, he had decided to leave the ship primed for lift off. Umbra saw the shuttle, knowing that she would never get another chance to get off Kegan. She could either live the life of a fugitive on the surface, or she could leave, hopefully escaping the Sith altogether. It was an easy choice, she would most certainly be haunted by memories of her father if she stayed on Kegan, although she was already trying to convince herself that his death had not been her fault and that the Sith had murdered him. So it was that she hopped in the cockpit and after pressing a few buttons, the ship lifted off the surface. Using the control stick to maneuver the ship was straightforward enough, and soon she was out of the atmosphere for the first time. Now it was time to figure out the hyper drive. There it was, the galaxy map. Now then, to choose a destination… Sith fighters suddenly rocked the transport with laser bolts. Argh! No time to decide! Umbra put her finger on a random planet. It just happened to be Ambria. The Navicomputer put through the coordinates of the several jumps they would be required to make, and just as the light transport shield was giving out and flickering, her ship shot away from the planet, heading for Ambria. Umbra was on her way.
